View Full Version : PB360 bug: double startup

It may not be a bug, just a feature, but I could do without it. If I stick a memory card in the device, it will always boot twice.

If I set it to go to the home menu on startup, the device will power up displaying the startup logo. Will then display the home menu, but the 'last read' list will display only items in the internal memory. Obviously, the device doesn't "see" the memory card yet. After a few seconds, it will boot again, displaying the boot logo again, and *then* the last read items that are on the memory card will be displayed.

This is a minor annoyance. What's more annoying is that it makes it impossible to use the setting "go to last read book on start up". Because if I do that, the device will boot up. I'll start to read. And then when I want to go to the next page, the second boot will kick in, and I end up in the home menu.

Anyone else notice this (and agree we could do without this)?

It is a documented issue related to the speed of the flash card; some cards are too slow to respond at boot time.

Please refer to the following thread which deals with the same issue:

Are you, by any chance, using a cat 2 Sandisk card?

I see. I don't now if it's cat 2, but it *is* a Scandisk card. 8 Gb.

(Okay, that's clear then. Don't really need the card anyway, other than as a means of being able to read new books without hooking up the device to the computer. 512 Mb is plenty of space for my needs.)

The category of the card is usually printed as a number (on its own) on the card. It does seem that Sandisk Cat 2 cards have this "issue" on the PB. Personally, I don't find it a problem; the card works fine after the second boot, but I am hoping that it's fixed in the forthcoming firmware update.
