Dear All-

Are there others who share my annoyance that the price of some of the downloads are greater than the price of the actual book on Amazon, and that the Sony price is greater than that for Kindle?

Are there any other sites to buy and download books for the Reader.

Thanks

Mort

Fictionwise is usually more expensive than amazon and Sony *but* they have a rebate system and frequent coupons that if used properly will net you very cheap ebooks. I'm averaging <$3 per ebook at fictionwise right now and that includes many books I spent $17 when they were at 100% rebate, to get the Micropay balance to pay for other books.

The key to fictionwise is only buying books when they are on special sale -- when you can get a rebate even paying with rebate dollars. Currently the Agatha Christie books are on 75% rebate and there is also a 25% off coupon this month, so that the final price of the books is <$1! The system is a bit complicated, but once you get used to it, you get really great deals.

The one caveat is you'll really need to learn to strip drm from your ebooks and convert them, as most aren't available as epub there. If you google around for darkreverser you should find some help.

Kobo is more expensive, but they have some deals, such as most of the Mickey Spillane books very cheaply.

Also, Inkmesh (http://inkmesh.com) to find free ebooks and compare prices at all these (http://inkmesh.com/about/) sites.

+1 for Inkmesh and all the other sites to buy. I have never bought a book from Sony or a song from iTunes.... even though I have a Sony reader and an iPhone.... better deals are out there!

Oh, and I buy mostly from Kobo... http://www.kobobooks.com/

I agree with you on their inconsistency of prices. David Rosenfelt has a new book that just came out and they are charging $17.99 where Amazon is only charging $9.99. Harlan Coben just released a new mystery book on the Sony site and they are selling it for $9.99. It frustrates me to know end. I have emailed them three times and they have ignored all three. Argh!
