View Full Version : My V2 has arrived!
THJahar 07-31-2006, 01:41 PM Well, my V2 'sample' has arrived.
As soon as I get a digital camera from a friend i'll start posting some photo's and video. First point is that the cover has been changed from white to a rather nice looking glossy grey.
The software itself is still 'from what I see' not yet set to european (i.e. it doesn't have an english interface yet)
I've only had time to convert one document to .wol, as it's not able to read .txt files yet
As for pdf's there is a zoom facility and a rotate facility, which is pretty good.
The mp3 player isn't yet active.
When i've had more of a play around with it i'll post more info.
THJahar 07-31-2006, 02:52 PM I've got to point out that this is pre-production software, and It looks like it's the V8 ported across to the v2.
Page refreshes are quite quick with only a hint of ghosting. (more noticable when coming from an image to text)
My only gripe so far is the page movement button, which is kinda difficult to move with my fat western fingers.
bshort 07-31-2006, 04:59 PM Are the page refreshes faster than on the iLiad?
It's not reading Txt files natively, but can it read anything other than wol's without conversion? Pdfs? Html files?
THJahar 08-01-2006, 01:21 PM a few pics of the V2, enjoy :happy2:

Better not perform a crime with this ebook reader because it is a fingerprint magnet. :D
THJahar 08-01-2006, 02:20 PM here's a mov file of the V2 in action

So true. :happy2:
The pictures do not do the cover justice it's really glossy, much like a car paint job shiny.
THJahar 08-01-2006, 02:31 PM You can see in the movie that the page transistions are really quick, although it does suffer from ghosting especially going from an image to text, but not enough to really annoy.
I think they set this model onto the quickest transition.

The ghosting didn't look bad at all - I'll gladly trade ghosting for fast page turns like that. That's faster than a print book, I think!
Now my only question is when it will be available to purchase...
THJahar 08-01-2006, 03:02 PM I would love to compare this to an lliad, don't suppose there's anyone in Leicester UK with one?
Thanks for the video!
The location of the iLiad users are available online. Go check the Tribble's iLiad threads for the map url.

damian 08-02-2006, 06:31 PM hey,
it'd be awesome if you could post images of the V2 next to a real book for reference of what the screen looks like compared to paper - like TaKir did over in this post (http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showpost.php?p=29927&postcount=118) on a different thread...
cheers

Well i'll give it a shot, but I'm experiencing 'technical difficulties' at the moment with the V2 (i.e. it's stopped working :( ) I'm arranging a skype chat with the engineers at the moment to see if we can get it re-booted and working again.

Quality of screen Jinke can be estimated here
http://www.lbook.com.ua/ru/news/FotoBank
The photo of the device are received by means of the usual scanner, instead of the camera.
Actually the screen has a light grey shade, pleasant for reading.
Screens at Jinke V2 &V8 and at Sony Librie and 500 absolutely identical also have identical PN.
Distinction between Jinke and Sony in various algorithms of scanning. In Jinke the fast algorithm of change of the image is used. But speed reduces brightness of a background (very few ~5 %) a little.
bingle 08-03-2006, 06:21 PM THJahar: Has Jinke given you any indication what their plan is with the samples and distribution? Are they providing samples to potential distributors, or influential reviewers, or people who asked nicely? Have you heard anything about when they expect the final software?
Thanks for your info so far!
THJahar 08-04-2006, 07:34 AM I have the same information as you guys. I was able to sweet talk a sample out of them. But be aware that none of the extra functionality is currently working, it's essential nothing but a reader at the moment. (No notes/Mp3/bookmarking etc.)

Honestly, that's all I want ;-P How's the battery life? Have you gotten a chance to test that?
AndrewLB 08-07-2006, 12:26 PM How's the feel of the plastic? From the pictures is looks pretty low quality, to be honest.
Also, how well does the bookmarking and whatnot work?
THJahar 08-10-2006, 03:31 PM well unfortunately we had a 'minor technical issue' and the V2 has to be shipped back for replacement.
I'm not particularly upset as it was a sample and these things happen. Jinke did get an engineer for me on IM and we had a nice chat to see if we could rescue the device without returning it.
For my sins (since i was rushing to work, it was 9am for me and 4pm in China) I didn't get to quiz him about the release of the device or anything at all. (kicking myself)

Well the plastic is sturdy although I have to admit it's glossy surface is indeed a fingerprint magnet. I think the impression that it's cheap comes from the glossiness as a european styling ethos pretty much dictates matt black/grey.
As for the bookmarking unfortunately that wasn't implemented in this software revision.
THJahar 09-03-2006, 01:10 PM Well My replacement V2 has arrived. It's got a minor software update (the battery level now displays)
I'm going to test it's battery longevity first, see how many hours I get.
I'm then going to try and track down the reasons for it's lock ups on specific pages of wol documents (i'll try creating all the different types of doc it can read, then check if there are any unusual characters)
