"Yeah, Very exciting. Yes, they'll make their announcement tomorrow on this one. We have worked with Apple for quite a while. And the Tablet is going to be based on the iPhone operating system and so it will be transferable. So what you are going to be able to do now is we have a consortium of e-books. And we have 95% of all our materials that are in e-book format on that one. So now with the tablet you're going to open up the higher education market, the professional market. The tablet is going to be just really terrific."

lol, wonder if Jobs is still going to let him on stage tomorrow now.

What an astonishingly stupid thing to have done. He must have signed an NDA that he's just breached. Has he not noticed that Apple (justifiably) like to keep announcements like this secret until the day?

I would be surprised if ANY mention of McGraw-Hill was now made at tomorrow's announcement.

The only thing that could save him would be if he didn't have any actual knowledge. But the assertion that Apple's (yet-to-be-announced) tablet would have (a version of) the iPhone OS sounded like insider info to me.

So they had to have someone to clear this tablet thing up instead of themselves?

Uh...

EDIT: My point here is that there is this psychological hype someone as smart as Steve Jobs is forcing down out throats.... With this tablet....

I like it. I just hope the next headline isn't:

CEO of McGraw Hill found dead. Thought to be strangled with black polo-neck jumper. Police are looking for a balding, naked from the waist-up, man with glasses, seen fleeing in the direction of Cupertino.

Yes, this Apple Tablet is a hard pill to swallow.

Sorry. Had to say it.

The end-all-do-all-better-than-sex iTablet will have a small emitter that periodically spritzes a whiff of decaying paper. You can choice between the scents of mildew and silverfish feces (each sold separately.)

the funny part is if this guy from McH was shown a totally different device. I doubt the guy would know the ipHOnE OS from BeOS or CP/M...I just think it wold be too funny for the guy to be waaay of the reservation with what he thinks is the case.

BTW, please being the complaining about everything now being compared to the iSlop rather than the Swindle...it will be funny to watch the monkeys dance. Dance Monkey Boi's Dance...

This is a controlled leak, done with Apple's permission or even at their behest.

I guess a tablet will make portable porn better... the iPod screen is so small and the iPhone iPod Touch is not big enough

Exactly...purely a part of the manipulation because if they get everyone talking about this as a gaff, even more people will pay attention tomorrow to see if it was true or not. As I recall Amazon has done this twice with the K1 & K2 leaking pics of the final design before the official press conference and ti generated even more chatter...

Something that will be interesting is I have spoken with several folks I know who are university prof's as well as students and all have said a tablet would be great BUT not with the same OS as the iPhone/iPod Touch. I could understand using the core of the OS for the UI and actions but as a tweener type device, I don't know that it would work. Has the iPhone OS even gotten to the multi-tasking level yet? I would sure expect at least a 32-bit OS able to run several apps at the same time. And not just small device apps but real apps as well as web based/centric stuff.

Kinda interested just to see if Apple has been able to extend the OS because I do like the way it works...but Android is interesting as well, just far from "mission critical" ready right now.

But the manipulation really is funny to watch because the it is getting the desired reaction which was as predictable as the rain today here in California.

The iSlate ceased to be news a month ago. As many have predicted, it'll basically be a big iPod Touch.

The interesting parts of tomorrow's announcement will be what Apple have done with the iTunesLP format and what new multitouch UI frills they've implemented.

Very true. What is most interesting to me is what deals have been struck with publishers and how restrictive those deals are.

What is most interesting to me is what deals have been struck with publishers and how restrictive those deals are.Hmm, good point. Here's my predictions:
1) Apple has learned to be more flexible on pricing - the 99c/track deal generated a lot of bad blood, almost as much as Amazon's $9.99 deal is doing right now. The difference is that Apple, iTunes and the iPod/Phone/Slate franchise is in a much stronger position now than it was in the early 00s and Jobs won't feel the need to enforce uniform pricing to generate demand. Flat pricing for books makes very little sense anyway. So book pricing will be set by the publisher, with Apple taking a flat 30% off the top.
Anyone who sees a worrying similarity to the Net Book Agreement has spotted the demon lurking beneath.
2) If the iSlate takes off and publishers see decent sales through this channel in the next 6-12 months, they'll start to dump the Kindle by delaying Kindle releases relative to iSlate (and even ePub) debuts. The fall-out will be similar to the events described in Revelations 12:7.

Of course, I might be completely wrong, but I reserve the right to smirk if not :).

What is the point of these tablets now? Seems sort of pointless if you ask me, sort of like netbooks. I guess it's neat to have some sort of intermediate size product, but I don't see why that creates such a hype. The hype is that it's an Apple product. Hype is their specialty. I'm not saying it won't be a cool gadget, I'm sure it will be. What has irritated me all along is people saying, "There's going to be a tablet" , like it was ordained from on high, when all that really has been out there is rumor, fantasy, and wishful thinking.

The CEO from McGraw-Hill seems to be a more reliable source than any I've ever heard of; so ok, there's a tablet. (Unless that was a huge practical joke, but CEO's of companies that big don't normally *have* a sense of humor). That doesn't nullify my previous irritation.

Yeah, I want a cool tablet device. I currently have a netbook, and I'm crazy about the little thing. I'm still interested in something with a tablet form factor though. Problem is, I want it to run Windows. And I don't want to have to sell a kidney to get it, either.

Me too.
My choise of heart would be linux, but there are the LEGO programs i mean to run, and they don't run on linux.
Plus, given the use i would have of the tablet, i'm looking for someting more on the cheap line.

Might be missing the point here.

The reason tablets are not that popular, is that everything currently on the market is underpowered, awkward to use and unwieldy. Yeah, most are cheap, but they show it. And Windows 7, while a fine OS (just like OS X), is not ideally suited for a multimedia device (and I include the ereader function in there).

I think Apple has the right idea, if this turns out to be a multimedia device, with UI appropriate for the purpose.

Yes, I can see a major market for Interactive porn on this device. Rub here, twist there...

Well obviously I won't have to worry about that now, though there's only partial price flexibility. A top pricepoint of $14.99 is going to give them problems if they want to attract the textbook market, though I suspect this scheme is going to quietly change once the initial launch is over.

McGraw-Hill is bigger than most of the publishers on this slide. But insiders say as soon as Terry shot his mouth off on CNBC, Jobs had the company cut from the presentation.
