What are your opinions about the ghosting of the display? I find it partial really annoying. I think they could reduce it if they refresh the display two times on an page flip. Of course this would make it slower, but they could offer it as an configurable option.

TBH the only time I notice it is the first page going from the menu into a file.

After that first page, it seems to clear up or at least become less noticable.

Eink has two update modes in the display, "slow" and "fast". (and it seems they are working in a third one, "partial"). The fast one gives ghosting. The slow one takes one second and in the librie it was the worst option because your eyes whent into a cicle of adaptation to changing contrast, very stressful IMO.

I actually don't see ghosting apart from after I switch it on. I would have imagined that issue to be a lot more disturbing, but even if I search for it, I can't see it.

I get constantly ghosting when I view PDF. The screen is never fully refreshed in this mode.

yeah, same here ... only in the menus at startup.
turning text pages show no ghosting (even when looking for it). no problem for everyday use.
might become a problem with pictures and graphs and pages with a lot of whitespace.

Does the ghosting disturb you in this mode? Or is it easily ignored?

I can see a bit ghosting if i concentrate on it. But nozīthing that bothers really. Sometimes, after a long time with not switching pages, ghosting is worse, but almost gone with next pageflip

It depends. Sometimes it really disturbs me (if there are graphics on the page). It would be sufficient if I could initiate a manual screen refresh or if we could set our preferred screen refresh method in the preferences.

It seems that the pages slowly darken a little when the device is left for a while. This is quite clear to see in the configuration page when you move the selection up or down, a white area appears where the previous selection was. I have started flipping back and forth before reading when the device has been on charge. This lightens the screen and removes the ghosting.

Try writing on a blank page, then open a new blank page.
Your old writing will be visible for at least 15 seconds or more.
Funny thing is..
The ghosted drawing is brighter then the screen itself and then slowly fades to the same white-gray as the background.

Have you got a photo of that? (Pretty please?)

That is what I thought too at first.
It turns out that it was nothing more than a Pac-man ghost on holliday.
He was visiting a cousin at Ghost Recon III for the Xbox 360.
It had taken a wrong turn at a router a few blocks back.

:lost: Fortunately one of our smilies could help him out.

I even got a postcard, this afternoon.

Well - seems that since today I get the ultimate ghosting experience - screen doesn't seem to clear anymore (see attached pic for an impression).

Itīs about time to call in tech-support.

For those who want to know: I got ticket no. 73 ... so we're slowly moving into the hundreds range :-(

[And: YES, I am even worse at spelling than at reading ;-) ]

Bah, it's no big deal, my surname is typical for my area, and still local people get it wrong all the time. :)

Hope it goes well for you with support.

73 tickets if they shipped less then 700 orders yet?

let me do the math... one moment.

Wow. that's a really *bad* quota.

I feel sorry for the people that have faulty iLiad's and hope it will be sorted out soon for everyone. I think I've made my decision and that is not to buy an iLiad, for now at least.

Do you think so? Maybe most of them are asking how to turn the damn thing on :)

Don't know, 10% is more or less standard with a new product.

Riocaz

And this is not just new, but these are amongst the first devices to be built.

And we don't know exactly what those tickets are, half of them, could be relatively simple things that the 1st line havn't recognised, and passed on.

Without more data it's impossible to say.

Yet I STILL DON'T HAVE A TICKETNUMBER.

I'm starting to think someone at iRex doesn't like me.

Have you phoned, emailed & bugged them enough? Make sure you're not slipping into a black hole in the system and being forgotten, which can happen, specially if they're all hectic with launching, etc. Good luck.

Riocaz

I've phoned twice. I don't want to phone too much, because I've been in supoport and hate people like that. And because I have to phone them from work and it's an international call.

I understand that, I've worked in support, and am currently in an IT dept, AND my husband was the support group leader, lol... even so, polite as anything, push ahead as much as you can. Try emailing, I emailed shop@irex... with a support question, and they answered very quickly, and it's less pushy, they can read and take their time answering, and you can state everything a lot better, give them the mac address right there, so they can get on with it. ;)

Just mailed shop@ in the hopes that they can get this sorted for me.

For goodness sake all I want is a ticket number.
