So hopefully I'm just days away from be the owner of an iliad, an right now I'm gathering up ebooks at other content from the 4 corners of the web. Here are a few useful tools I've found.

http://www.go2pdf.com - Prints any web site straight to PDF inc pics.
http://www.processtext.com/abclit.html - Converts LIT files to PDF an other formats.

Quite a lot of tools out there for removal of DRM.

Print is dead. Long live print.

I'll also be curious to hear from folks about what size PDF (in pixel dimensions? print size?) works best on the iLiad. Does any old PDF work, is it resized, or reflowed?

Or maybe that's already been answered somewhere and I just haven't looked hard enough :) I'm going hunting...

Not really, the 7day-trial subscription works just fine. Although you can only print single pages without a real subscription. But those PDF look fine for me.

also, unixers could enjoy the netpbm package, particularly pnmcrop, to erase margins, and pnmflip or pnmrotate. This works on bitmaps; I supposse a utility similar to pnmcrop but for pdf files should be welcome.

Actually my Debian has installed a thing called "pdfcrop" but no man page about it. It produces a file about 6 times bigger, which is strange, I can not decide if it is bitmap or just decompressed pdf. In any case, "pdfcrop --verbose" is a good utility to know the margins of each page, then resize as you wish.

Hmm pdfcrop is really a perl script,
/usr/share/texmf-tetex/scripts/pdfcrop/pdfcrop.pl
and it comes in the TeX packages.

It uses ghostscript to extract BoundingBox information, thus it is not a real crop as in pnmcrop but an alternate use of the information already provided by postscript. Then it reencapsulates the pdf as part of a file to be processed by the pdftex utility. Thus it requires all the whole TeX thing installed, but it should work in Windows TeX distributions too.

It does not seem to bitmap the source, so I can not see why the generated pdf is bigger than the original.

This is why I am waiting on getting a reader until I see what the sony connect is all about. If they can get an attractive list of publishers on-board, of which I will gladly pay for regardless of the reader, then I will go that route.

I like the illiad overall though. The touch screen is a significant advantage.
