They pay my device cause i ordered it for evaluation.

Is this true or just the standard trick to get attention of a B2B based company as iRex?

I mean, I am interested to hear about projects based on eink devices.

I think your tracking numbers could arrive later...I'm not sure...my UPS tracking status was always way behind the actual delivery...
Let#s wait a little longer...^^

MMmmm, sort of defeats the purpose of a tracking number, doesn't it?

Then again, Europeans always do have their own way of doing things

At the moment meditation seems to be disturbed by middle east trouble. Crazyness everywhere. Argh!

It _was_ true ... and that is what makes me very mad at iRex. :(

But i am sure i'll bring it up again when more different devices are on the market and there is more time then in the middle of the summer ...

And iRex is never ever a B2B based company. Sorry but thats just some other excuse for them for not knowing how to act on the market. "Hey look at us we are not able to answer emails, bring up CRM, communicate with our costumers, etc. but we are so damn deep into B2B ..." ... sure - of course. ;)

Think that is as true as our devices were shipped last monday

i hope they don't cite the near east trouble as the next shipping delay.

And iRex is never ever a B2B based company.

Hmm, just because you are working for a business doesnt qualify for what iRex is targeting as B2B partners. Their main targets are contentproviders who can use hundreds or even thousands of devices for their customers. I would say thats a diiferent scale than what you need, isnt it? So i can understand, that they focus on that part. Lucily, they noticed the potential in normal customers and businesses that want the iLiad for other uses. That doesnt mean that this is their main business though. So cut them some slack. They are just too jung to see all potential of their device just yet.

Sischa

Ah you seem to be "the believer" - i hope we can push this thread in 6 month or so to see all the companies using round about 500 Euro devices for their thousands of costumers ...

They better should realize that most of the "geeks" here are their real first costumers and multiplier which will maybe lead to real b2b or how do you think blackberry was brought to such a big business sucess.

But thats the difference between optimist and pessimist - i think i lefr the positive path lately and now the positive just look naiv to me ... *maybe needs more meditation*

omg now i got my tracking number but in the iRex document i got from them they left out the company name and just have my real name with my job adress inside.

Yeah think the UPS driver has to know every name of the employees in an 100+ company he drives by ... maybe in iRex fantasy. I think that is all i have to say about their so called "b2b orientation" :-)

Hope at least they labeled the package correct or i see more problems incoming ...

P.S. by the way anyone else thought "just another tojan spam mail" when this strange mail with attached pdf file came in? *g*

At least in my experience, not having the company name on the parcel isn't really important, I manage the IT purchases in my company and we get LOADS of stuff sent with a personal name instead of the company. Messenger walks in, asks "so and so?" and I say "yup, right here" or "nope, that's the other door, Marketing". Not really a problem, as long as the street address is ok. :)

As the time for the first Iliad deliveries is coming nearer, the danger of people totally freaking out is also becoming bigger.

It's therefore necessary to give my follow e-Ink-enthusiasts a proper place to calm down and relax.

Just say:
I'm impatiently waiting for my Iliad to be shipped.
My previousn caree as a psychiatrist and my own personal experience has taught me that an adequate intake of chocolate and fudge is the best way of alleviating feelings of frustration and impatience reulting from having to deal with delayed self-gratification.

automatically a tracking number.

Tracking numbers are an illusion anyway. UPS has a reputation for beein a bit sloppy with standard tracking numbers, but you should have received this very obscure email with that output.pdf attached, which includes your tracking number. I sent an inquiry email to iRex regarding my purchase/shipping status as not much has changed after making the initial order. I am a US order, #615.

Here is the response I got from iRex this morning:

"Dear Customer,

The iLiad ships on average in 4-6 weeks. You may expect to see changes in the order status soon.
Regards,
iRex Shop"

Bummer. Intriguingly enough, this "4-6 weeks" was not noted prior to my ordering. I guess the only thing that I can do at this point in time is to exercise patience and restraint, after all they do have my money. I am still hoping to see this thing before I go out on my next trip in August but somehow I think that once again I will be disappointed. Maybe I will be wrong.

It's so frustrating just sitting at "Order Confirmed - Processing"

I am getting envious of all the pix of shiny new iLiads!

I am not the computer expert that some people are here, but I still want my iLiad by the time I get home from my trip (27 July), at this point it probably won't get to the house before I leave on the next trip. It's rather obvious why they do not bring the ILiad fast ;)

The funny thing about arvato is that they are in the print business also. Here an exerpt from their website:

Today arvato printing plants produce books, magazines and catalogs, advertising products, calendars and telephone books, both in huge print runs or mini-batches.
So if you get your ILIad you are one potential customer less for traditional books, so a threat to their market ...

And I would't say their weird - they have about 42000 employees (worldwide). I have worked with one of their consultants (they also have a consulting branch) and he was not weird in any way.

Greetings,
Frank

Thank you.
UPS seems to kick all Iliads around to a few major distribution centers before getting them to the customers.
So your Iliad visiting Paris is just a stop underway to you.
The 'exception" could be -but I am not sure- that it is not distributed 'locally' but waiting to be sent on to the next distribution center.
I do hope you get your Iliad soon!!

Thank you all very much, ladies and gentlemen!

After receiving the Iliad I registered through the website.
Connecting to both wired and lan-networks was a breeze, absolutely no problems with the help of the wizard.
Had to copy the note-taking files manually through the USB connection, ofcourse but also no problems there, it worked the first time.
Put in a 64 CF card and it read the second time -had to re-insert- perfectly.

Rather long loading times when starting a large PDF file but nothing too fancy. :)
In the PDF files you can change the height of the font and that takes a bit of time also.
Ofcourse for now you lose the point where you were reading, every time you switch the Iliad off and starting up may take as long as 40 secs.

Well, thats about it really for now.
Fortunately I bought a new Canon camera this morning that I can try on the Iliad.
I shall try and post a couple of pictures on the forum.

Man, this is incredible! They have delayed v2.7 but not happy with that they have split the release in the improvements they already have done (about 2 weeks of delay) and the long waited PDF functions (who knows when). But wait, they do to prevent further delays... and tell us the last day.

But UPS had problems delivering my packet, because the ö in "Dörflistrasse" was completely wrecked and they could not read the street-name anymore, so I had to call up UPS to let them know the right address (it was almost a horror-story, as I tracked the shipping status and suddenly I see: "destination-address non-existant check with sender..." :-)

Another fresh week's shrink-wrap is opened, hissing as the vacuum is filled with air smelling of freshly brewed coffee.
Another day that might be the first one with an electronic device readable in sunlight has begun.
I'm wondering what "Shipping started" means. Did my parcel leave the headquarters of the paper based books nightmares yet?
Or was friday the day where the powers that be decided on which device to send to me by the end of this week?
Will "they" send me a tracking number by email to check every other minute?
Will my customers take "I was waiting for my Iliad" as a plausible excuse?
Is the world really in need for another Iliad-unwrapping-porn?
Are there people who cannot read this thread anymore because some censorware eats it after I mentioned "porn" twice?

to myself in the cozy meditation thread.

Here I am still stuck with 2.7.1 though the promised patch of freedom was shining at the horizon and I'd have had a whole weekend to spend on tinkering. Eg: I'd sooo love having Ruby on the iLiad.

Irex didn't send me the skeleton key for the dungeon my iLiad is locked in within 24 hours. That's kind of okay for a manual process, and things go wrong (as I already learned when trying to order an iLiad for the first times), but still...

Well, however, divine plans seldomly work out as mere mortals expect them to. I'm somewhat dissappointed that I'm going to have to clean out the basement and fix the garden for winter :-(

Hey, I got your brain waves, I have opened this thread to write something like this.
oooooooooooooooooommmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
I try not to think about missing my iLiad.
But this is so hard, the stuff I want/have to read get's more & more every day, I don't want to print it, these days are over I thought.

It got to the Repair Center this morning; anybody know what the turnaround is these days, I lost track - one week? Less? More? Shorter for a reflash than, say, a screen replacement? Anyone?

Thanks Natch.

One question though: What does your avatar simbolyze?

It doesn't really symbolize all that much, per se, vranghel, I think of it as a stylized phoenix, it grew out of a persistent doodle during my first college class (history, which explains why I was persistently doodling ;)).

Hello dear friend!

I know, we have neglected you for quite some time, but you do know, that this has nothing to do with you personally, i hope. In fact, most of us are quite happy not to be needing you in quite some time. But Alex made me think about you again, and i felt sad to have neglected you for so long where you stood by my side in times af grief and anger.

I hope you are well and i also hope you will be visited by friends now, who visit you with positive kama and spiritual relief.

Be safe my friend. I promise to be back sooner this time.

Aargh! 2 hours till UPS gets here. I'm going through withdrawal.... I need my iLiad!

:laughboom:

Update: UPS came, and left, leaving me nothing. Looks like my iLiad is on the slow plane from Germany....

I have a horizontal black line from time to time on my screen. On booting screen, too. But every time it goes away by itself.

ooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
This behaviour started today. Let it be a 1day bad mood.
