Ever imagine losing your pda/smartphone? The device can almost be easily replaced, but what about the data? Now imagine that you can backup your data by just pressing a button and restore it the same way. Advanced wireless solutions has devised a solution that makes it possible. Just connect your mobile through usb, infrared etc and you're done. Backup-Pal does just that.
"Advanced Wireless Solutions, LLC (AWS) is announcing the availability of Backup-Pal?, the world?s first portable and universal cellular phonebook backup accessory at CTIA Wireless 2006. Backup-Pal? does not require the use of a personal computer, software installation, data cable purchase or a monthly subscription to a carrier?s data service. By pressing one button, cell phone contacts are backed up and transferred to a new phone without ever having to turn on a computer. ?Many people permanently lose important phonebook contacts when cell phone loss, theft, damage or upgrade occurs,? says Ravash Ram, Director of Business Development for Backup-Pal?."

Very interesting product idea for cell phones. If you have a lot of contacts, it might be a good alternative to buying PC software and cable, which tends to be pretty expensive, and of course requires the PC.

If you have a Treo, there's also a new web alternative... http://www.backupbuddy.net/
