View Full Version : Frugal $1.00 Jetbook Cover
kevbooks 12-28-2009, 03:31 PM New guy here. Just received a Jetbook jb-5 for Christmas. It didn't come with a jacket so I went to the local Dollar Tree Dollar store and bought a surprisingly nice 5x7 photo album. Perfect fit, albeit a little thicker than a commercial cover, and I secured the Jetbook with 4 small Velcro tabs. Very serviceable and respectable looking and about thirty bucks cheaper than the alternative. This idea may have been discussed before, but I'm so pleased with the results I thought I'd post a couple of pics. Photo date is incorrect, btw. Cheers, Kev.

emoorman 01-01-2010, 12:47 AM Pretty sharp cover! I like it.
poshm 01-01-2010, 02:21 AM Looks really good and even sweeter that it only cost $1
kevbooks 01-01-2010, 12:15 PM Thanks! I went back to the dollar store and bought three more in some other colors for my wife and I. Can't beat the price and the OEM vibe.
I'm considering adding a short closing strap and an left side accessory pouch. Will post more (reasonably sized... ) pics, if I do.
Happy New Year : ) kev

rickyoon.vegas 01-24-2010, 03:58 AM I did this.
Awesome fit.
kirbinster 01-25-2010, 07:26 PM I found a Universal Zip case by Equip at the dollar store today (for $1.00) that is just perfect for the Jetbook Lite. http://www.avenuesinleather.com/products.htm is the link to the companies website, but they don't show the model. Its called AVesku#RA-3700-02, Zip wallet PDA Case. It shows that it is designed for a Palm M100 but it is longer than that device and is just perfect for the Jetbook lite.
DJHARKAVY 01-25-2010, 10:35 PM I bought this on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/Soft-Silicone-Skin-Cover-Case-for-Ectaco-Jetbook-eBook_W0QQitemZ190361996009QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_D efaultDomain_0?hash=item2c52758ae9)
It fit the jetbook profile quite well, and once I cut out a space for the battery case in the back, it was perfect.
heffe2001 01-25-2010, 10:42 PM I've got one of those silicon skins for my regular jetbook, but I found the fit wasn't perfect, and it attracted dust and dog hair like crazy, so I pulled it off and just using the screen protector that came with the skin. When I get a little extra $$, I may pick up one of the official jetbook cases, I'd love to find one of the real lite cases that was pictured in another thread (already has the cutout for the battery compartment) for my wife's.
gr8npwrfl 01-26-2010, 04:13 AM I put one of those on my smartphone and it only took me a week till I discarded it. Like you said nothing but an animal magnet. My cats were always rubbing against it while it was on the charger and it to me more time to clean the hairball than it was worth.
I purchased a gel skin, it was a glorified padded sticker and it protected my phone from drops and scrapes.
I am still waiting for DecalGirl to come out with the skin for the jetbook

Oddly, my cats haven't really gotten to it much...
But if you find one of the cases designed for the lite, let us know.

Purchased that one ... almost works.
Although the stated dimensions are correct, the corners are rounded, so the square-cornered JBL does not easily fit in the zippered case.
If you push hard enough, three sides will fit, leaving the top exposed.

Hey thanks for the tip about the velcro tabs. I found some really nice covers (but for more like $63 than $1-real leather) but for the life of me I couldn't figure out how I would get my Jetbook to affix itself to the cover!! I will check out that option next time I go shopping.
gr8npwrfl 02-02-2010, 10:55 PM What in the world would we ever do without velcro ???????
Can you imagine how different life would be without it ?
The only place it does not belong is on kids shoes !!
There is a lot of parent child bonding time and kids that get a real sense of accomplishment learning to tie their shoes.

Behold, the inflatable Velcro Bounce and Stick Wall. Extreme parent/child bonding.

docfrancov 06-25-2010, 12:10 AM I bought this for my Aluratek Libre Pro:

Works like a charm!
dixieknits 06-28-2010, 09:04 AM Hi, I found a little fake lack alligagor foldover purse/picture holder the perfect fit at Dollar Tree. I removed the pages, but could not figure a way to attach the Jetbook. Could you post more info on the velcro tabs? What and where are they available. Thanks
dougf4 06-28-2010, 10:37 AM I just converted a Desk Size Planner "folio" into a cover for my Jetbook Lite.
Other than having to cut out an area for the AA battery bulge to fit through it was a very simple project.
I found the "Mead Padfolio" at a local discount store (Big Lots) for $4.00. It is nicely padded and has a firm clasp as well which is nice in case things take a tumble.
Note: You'll notice that my reader is mounted low and to the right versus a more aesthetically pleasing centered. This is to facilitate getting my fingers on the page turn button (right arrow) in the scroll wheel in a comfortable manner. It also leaves room for a cliplight up top as well. I also made sure to mount my Velcro on the reader where my fingers would not have to rest on it when holding the device when it was not mounted to the cover as I don't think that would be a very pleasing experience. (even as wonderful as Velcro is!) Also I made sure to place the "softer" velcro on the reader and put that scratchy, nasty "hook" piece on the cover. Bottom line - if you opt to make a cover for yourself then "play a round" for a while to get things positioned properly for your own fit.
I found a sheet of very inexpensive black felt (89 cents) with adhesive backing at a fabric store that I cut into strips and placed around the rectangular opening that I cut out for the battery bulge. This gives things a nice finished seam or binding appearance and holds the inner/outer cover material together instead of just flopping loose and likely fraying over time.
My grandmother's influence from early on pretty effectively prevents me from treating myself to a $40.00 fancy leather cover. She constantly recited this ditty to all within earshot in her soft Scottish brogue,
"Use it up.
Wear it out.
Make it do or,
do without."

I love it, I might try something like that out for my Sony 505. Great idea!
