large scanned PDF support Astak EZReader PRO 5''

I have a collection of scanned PDF books. Some of the books are in size of 100-200 MB. Would Astak EZReader PRO 5'' to display them well by zooming, panning, rotating?

Thanks a lot.

If they are images then a 5" device is unlikely to be big enough to see them on. Asktak does not support panning of PDF images. The XPDF reader is a choice but it has limited zooming and rotating. What size are the originals? If they are the size of a piece of paper then they are 14" pages shrunk to fit a 5" device.

Very likely those could be shrunk. Most PDFs that size are scanned in color at 300dpi, and you don't need that for ebook reading. There are ways to condense them and make the filesizes much smaller, which makes them easier for a device to open. (However, downsampling & removing color won't make them fit any better on a 5" screen.)

Rotating might make them a bit more readable. What kind of books are they? Are the pages letter-sized, or smaller?

They are half of the letter size. 5.5x4.25.

Would the Kindle DX with 9.3'' the better choice?

Or the EZ Reader Basic 6'' would be a better choice?

Half-letter is 5.5 x 8.5. If they're actually 5.5 x 4.25--*quarter* letter--they'd probably look fine on a 6" e-ink screen; those are (about) 3.5x4.5", and it'd just shrink them a tiny bit.

Pages this size have a good chance of working fine, depending on the font size used in the original. Since they are images you will need to switch to the XPDF support as the ADE reflow won't work. A few firmware releases don't have XPDF so you will need to ensure that choice is on the menus while viewing the PDF.

If these are really important you may won't to OCR them and convert to text, either PDF or ePUB. You will have even better results but of course there is work to do to make the conversion.

You have another possibility. You can convert all your books to DjVu format and use an excellent DjVu reader plugin from Tigran123 with full ability to zoom and pan (more details here: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62273 , ready-to-use firmware is here: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=65280 ).

Does it work on the 5" PP (v5)?

I believe that is only for the V3, not the pocket pro, so far.

Oops... You were right.
But as for now, there is V5 support for LibDjVu. Starting with 1.95 version. Unfortunately, the-ebook.org now is out of service, can't check for details.
