Today's the first day of Oktoberfest. I seems the whole world has come to Munich. So I'm wondering why I still see familiar faces / avatars in the Lounge. Are you still at home or what? Put your Leathertrousers on and hurry! First litre of beer will be served in less than 10 hours.....

So where will we meet? Wait for the poll.....

I must be a very sound sleeper. When I went to bed last night it was still September! This morning is October? OK... so what if I lost two weeks. Let's meet in Marionplatz, in front of the knife shop. First round is on me! :D
Let's sing;
"In Muenchenheim they drink the beer,
Oans, zwoa, gsuffa!"

Well, we Bavarians are weird. Since we can hardly wait for the next Oktoberfest to come, we decided to start the madness in September ;)

I can't make it to Munich this year but have attended a few Oktoberfests in the past and always had a good time. I may see if I can make it to Helen, Georgia for their version of Oktoberfest.

Timezone advantage? But I thought you were in possession of the greatest timezone advantage by making all of them irreverant irrelevant. Cheers to you, Marc. I'm headed for bed. G'night!

Ah, I've been to Octoberfest in Munich several times and each one was a treat. In fact, this is where I discovered the odd fact that, the more beer you drink, the better your German becomes. Go figure.

Well, it is october by the time it ends, so thats close enough. :D

Besides, it increases the chance of nice weather while its on, stumbling your way home is a lot less annoying if you aren't being rained on.

The restaurant where we had the first meet-up celebrated Oktoberfest last weekend. No rides but great music, fantastic dancing, and the bells. 3+ tents. A wonderful time.

Of course we do! There are about 80-100 roller coasters, carrousels etc.
But you are right, I'd also advise people to go there before they spend a couple of hours in one of the beer tents.. ;)

wish i could visit Munich sometime and experience the wonderful Oktoberfest!! :)

Today's the first day. You have plenty of time to get here :D

Oh, that looks great! And they even have a Christkindlmarkt in winter!!! :) But what on earth is a 'Sauerkraut Performance'? :chinscratch:

Oktoberfest is everywhere!

You're so right, doggie. :D I think you could travel the world and always find an Oktoberfest somewhere. Hm, nice thought: the Oktoberfest world tour....

You don't have to drink beer. I had hot chocolate and some doughnut-like pastry today... I like your avatar, btw ;)

Aww, Sweetpea, and I thought I could tempt you!!! Don't you BeNeLux guys like hats? Look at this wonderful Oktoberfest-Hat. Hm, come on, it's just a quick train ride....

Oktoberfest is a big deal in LaCrosse. Pshrynk is probably right there now (or will be when they celebrate it there :chinscratch:)
Ah- I remember it well considering it was 25 years ago. I remember being there in roller skates (Why? That I don't remember except that it was kind of difficult when you're trying to polka) and also having to kiss all of these old men to get a button for the year they were the meister of the fest!
(Incidentally I only went one year.) :o

Kissing old men  Err, we don't have this over here (of course, you could if you like, I don't think any old man would mind ;)). But we have not 'sauerkraut performances' either, so maybe your Oktoberfests are even more original....

Oktoberfest here in La Crosse is a big deal. They close stores to go to the parades. The entire town gets drunk and pukes on Third Street. Sane psychiatrists leave town and go sailing, which is my plan for next weekend...

Back when Third Street was in the Guiness Book of Records for most taverns in a mile, Oktoberfest was even more of a debauche, according to SUmkIII. The usual Death March would end up at the bier tent in a huge brawl.

I guess that is why I only went the one time!

I'd forgotten that bit of trivia! :smack:
I do remember going to bars that were so jam-packed that you could lift your feet off the floor and not fall! And that was any time of the year, not just Oktoberfest.
