my prs-505 got wet, now none of the case buttons work, only the power buttons, is there any way to remove the buttons from the case so I can find out exactly what's wrong with them? I will try the rice trick later on. I've been wanting to paint my prs-505 for awhile now but knowing that there's basically no spray paint around that will stick the the crappy ceramic outside layer I also sanded the case (I disassembled it when I was drying it out), I suppose it could be aluminum just in the contacts...

You can NOT remove the buttons as they are integrated into the casing.

You can however quite simply remove the motherbord/screen from the casing and then let the casing dry in the sun/oven at a VERY LOW temperature...

See link (http://www.flickr.com/photos/21729510@N03/sets/72157603454047408/) to disassembly guide...

I have done it a dozen times by now (had to replace my own casing after half the buttons failed due to me dropping the reader....)

I bought a reader with a damaged screen and scavenged the casing.

It's just a matter of disconnecting a single ZIF connector (the big cable connecting the casing to the MOBO), slide out the mobo and slide it into a new casing. Reconnect the ZIF connector and you have a new casing..

There is a thread on the flea market section (http://www.mobileread.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=124) marked Five PRS505 & PRS500 for spare parts, 2 good screens ( 1 2) where you could inform for a new casing.

I paid 75 dollar including shipping for a broken screen reader, send to me in europe, from a forum member in Japan....
