We now include RDF-Feeds from our last 15 postings.

You can access it through http://www.turcic.com/forums/feed.php

If you don't know what RDF is, see here:
http://www.w3.org/RDF/

This one is dedicated to Sunshine :)

Heh :)

I am working on a second feed script now which also includes the post content of the last x posts.

Veni, vedi, vici!

The RDF feed script is now extended to also include the content of the last postings.

Call the feed like this:

http://www.turcic.com/forums/feed.php?mode=xxx&limit=yyy&offset=zzz

xxx can be lite (default) - no post content displayed
full - post content displayed with html tags
notags - post content displayed without html tags (e.g. trillian pro requires that)yyy can be any number from 1 to 20 - shows the last 1 to 20 postings (default is 15)
zzz can be your timezone offset, e.g. +2 (default is GMT)
So for instance to display the last 10 postings with content, you can use

http://www.turcic.com/forums/feed.php?mode=full&limit=10

Cheers
Alex

An intersting RDF/RSS Newsfeeder is Desktop Sidebar (http://sidebar.tech-critic.com/) which can do a lot more than just feeing news from my board :) So go have a look!

This is how Desktop Sidebar looks like. Btw, it also supports Klips (http://www.klipfarm.com/farm.php).

Sidebar looks interesting...except for this little detail:

Caution:
This software requires Windows 2000 or Windows XP and does not work in Windows 95/98/Me/NT.

So much for the laptop...but i'll try it at work with the W2K box...

I'm still a proponent of Amphetadesk, particularly because you can clip with IE and port to your Clie for off-line reading.

Just my $.02

I've build a sitescooper.org file for that rss-feed:

<pre>
# turcic.site

# Version 0.1, 24.09.03 09:41
URL: http://www.turcic.com/forums/feed.php?mode=full

Can anyone tell me how to add this feed into Amphetadesk? When I put in the URL it says "AmphetaDesk could not determine the format of http://www.mobileread.com/forums/feed.php."

Thanks.

Hey,

Saw an article on www.palminfocenter.com today about rss feeds and palm pilots. Apparently plucker can convert those feeds. Is there a way for isilo to do the same thing? I'm not familiar with rss but does new york times have one?

No iSilo doesn't support RSS (yet). Plucker and MobiPocket eNews Creator do, though.

NYT doesn't have official RSS support, but there are sites that offer RSS feeds to NYT. Check here: http://backend.userland.com/directory/167/feeds/newYorkTimes

I'm not schooled in RSS yet either, but I'm not sure how well it can work on the Palm beyond some headline summaries. Perhaps I should try that new Hand/RSS and see what it's like. The desktop RSS feeds that I've tried have at best a couple of sentences in summary and then link you to the source web page. Obviously that's not feasible for frequent updates to your palm. But as I say, I'm largely inexperienced in this and am open to being wrong. Anyone tried Hand/RSS yet?

You're right. Usually RSS feeds aren't that useful if you can only extract the title of an article and then link to the article, which itself is not mobile-friendly. Some software, like the eNews Creator by MobiPocket, goes one step further to allow you define what parts of the article you want to extract to your PDA. Other than that I haven't found a great benefit in RSS feeds for PDAs yet.

Alex, is there any reason why the RDF feed does not include all postings? It doesn't include Announcements or General Chat that I can tell, possibly others. I've been using the feed to see when new posts appear, but I've been missing some. Not critical, certainly, but I'm wondering.
