I hope this is the right place to ask this.

I've been trying to create nicely formatted lrf ebooks with calibre but I've been struggling with converting html and rtf files and retaining decent formatting and pagebreaks. It's good with native html and .lit but rtf files and html created by MS Word seems to be problematic for someone with my limited expertise.

Do people use calibre for their uploads or another program? Book Designer? Is it difficult to use?

You might want to check out the Workshop forum. I believe many here use Book Designer.

I use BookDesigner, Mobipocket Creator, and then Calibre. I think the trick with page breaks is to set up the regular expressions -- which I'm not comfortable with at all.

I use Book Designer for all my books. It does an excellent job of creating LRF files.

Yes, it does. I've been using it for a few days and it really is a very well designed tool. It's a pity the creator stopped development. The element browser in particular is brilliant.
