HowardChui.com (http://www.howardchui.com) has the first review of the much-awaited Nokia 770 (http://nokia.com/nokia/0,1522,,00.html?orig=/770) internet tablet.

At a glance, most people see the Nokia logo on the 770 and assume that it's a funny looking PDA phone. However, 770 is actually neither a PDA or a phone. It lacks basic PIM functionality like a phonebook, calendar and to-do list and there's no IMEI or ESN number on the back!

In fact, the 770 Internet Tablet is just that - an internet tablet. You use Bluetooth or wifi to get connected so you can surf the web. Besides surfing the web, the 770 can playback music and video, read RSS feeds, check email, view pictures and read PDF's.

The reviewer doesn't sound too optimistic and he critizes lack of PIM functionality. Does he even know that there is an active development behind the Maemo platform (which he doesn't mention at all) and that adding PIM functionality is quite trivial? Still I respect him for being one of the first who got his hands on this toy!

The number of ports and projects that have been announced for the 770 before it has even hit the streets is pretty encouraging. It illustrates the greatest strength of open platforms and the open source community.
