Hi all,

I'm Debbi Mack. I recently made by hardboiled mystery IDENTITY CRISIS available for download onto Kindle (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002BWQ676), as well as through the Scribd Store (http://www.scribd.com/doc/16358674/Identity-Crisis) and Smashwords (https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/2451).

Story summary:
A simple domestic abuse case turns deadly when the alleged abuser is killed and Stephanie Ann “Sam” McRae’s client disappears. When a friend asks Sam to find Melanie Hayes, the Maryland attorney is drawn into a complex case of murder and identity theft that has her running from the Mob, breaking into a strip club and forming a shaky alliance with an offbeat private investigator to discover the truth about Melanie and her ex-boyfriend.

With her career and life on the line, Sam’s search takes her from the blue-collar Baltimore suburbs to the mansions of Gibson Island. Along the way, she learns that false identities can hide dark secrets, and those secrets can destroy lives.

Author reviews:

“If you enjoy realistic legal thrillers—and dread the thought of ‘identity theft’ striking home—Identity Crisis will be a genuine treat. Debbi Mack has used her own experience as an attorney to craft a twisty yet completely credible plot. And her protagonist, Stephanie Ann ‘Sam’ McRae, is a perfect example of what every client should hope for in an advocate: a professional who’s willing to take risks both inside AND outside the courtroom.”
-- Jeremiah Healy
Author of RESCUE, TURNABOUT and THE ONLY GOOD LAWYER

“Identity Crisis is a well-written and well-plotted mystery which introduces lawyer-sleuth Sam McRae. She’s an exciting new protagonist mystery readers will want to get to know.”
-- Louise Titchener
Author of MALPRACTICE, BURNED IN BALTIMORE and BURIED IN BALTIMORE

Thanks, everyone, for the welcome. I appreciate the invite to the MobileRead Meet Up. If I can make it, I'll let you know. I've been having some medical issues lately, but if I'm feeling up to it, I'll try to be there.

Just out of curiosity, do you ever meet in Maryland?

Best,
Debbi

Hello Debbi. Let me add my welcome to those above. I like the way you used the poll to collect information on how your genre appeals to some of the members here at MobileRead. I've enjoyed discovering new authors -- well, at least new-to-me -- and having an opportunity to read books that have been published through channels other than the big publishing houses.

I hope you hang around for a while and let us get to know you and what you're working on now.

This will be my first meet-up. I think the location is chosen because it is more centrally located to everyone. I am about an hour or more west of DC and I know there is someone coming from north of DC in Maryland. But, who knows, maybe someone will plan one for Baltimore. :chinscratch: I LOVE the Inner Harbour! :p

It's great to know readers are looking for authors other than those published by the big houses. Getting published is incredibly tough these days. And so many excellent authors aren't among the bestsellers, even if they are lucky enough to find a big publisher.

What am I working on? I've written two more Sam McRae books (it was supposed to be part of a series, but my publisher folded before that could happen), plus a stand-alone crime caper (sort of similar to Carl Hiaasen's work). I've just started writing a thriller, and I keep sending my finished work around, in hopes of finding an agent and, eventually, a new publisher.

I'm also going to have two short stories published. One will be online at The Back Alley Webzine (http://backalleywebzine.com/), hopefully next month. And early next year, I'll have one published in the CHESAPEAKE CRIMES 4 anthology--coming out in print from Wildside Press in March 2010.
