There's an interesting article (http://www.business2.com/b2/web/articles/0,17863,1093558-1,00.html) from Business 2.0 that suggests that Google is in position to offer ubiquitous WiFi to everyone. Becoming a giant ISP with WiFi service also would position them to overtake the whole telecom industry. Just think Goop or Gype instead of Skype. This is a bit of a wild speculation that probably won't pan out, but hey, if someone told you 15 years ago what Google would be doing today, you'd have had their head examined!

Heh you are probably right Bob. Google is a phenomenon. For better or for worse. With a hefty pile of cash in their hands, they have the unusual freedom of doing trial & error business. Who really cares if Google News is ever going to be financially successful. Or that Google Print might never be the way Google has envisioned. It's a company with a lot of goodwill and high expectations from the Internet scene.

On the other hand, where are they truly heading? Google WiFi doesn't make my heart beat faster. Of course we all want WiFi for everyone, everywhere. But it takes more than just to have the idea and the will to become the telecom giant of tomorrow.
