Could you test it on a download from a library that offers ebooks?

The Boston Public Library (http://www.bpl.org/general/circulation/ecards.htm) does. Do you happen to live or work in Massachusetts (or know someone who does ;) )?

No I live in Europe and the e-books crossed my way all worked ... do you have somebody in that region?

So far, it's working with all the library ebooks that could not be decrypted with the previous version.

Just found one that didn't work - Natural Born Charmer by Susan Elizabeth Philips. Same file corrupted message when I tried to open it. Then I tried to save it as all files instead of pdf. It saved as an epub, and opened fine. I just imported it into Mobicreator as if it were a pdf, and everything was fine. Maybe it was originally epub? Anyway, no harm, no foul.
