This isn't an e-book item, and I'm not really sure what it entails. But it sounds too good to pass sharing it to a community of readers. Unfortunately, it's probably only in the US and Canada.

According to DealNews (http://dealnews.com/Free-Comic-Book-Day/294150.html), today is "Free Comic Book Day". They have a link (http://dealnews.com/lw/artclick.html?2,294150,954965) to help you find participating stores near your area code, and for example, there were about six stores listed within about an hour of my zip in the Pittsburgh area.

Free Comic Book Day is a single day - the first Saturday in May - when participating comic book shops across North America and around the world give away comic books absolutely FREE* to anyone who comes into their stores. *Check with your local shop for their participation and rules.

Yeah, it's an annual event. It's not just any comic, though. Publishers make specific comics for FCBD and it will usually say "Free Comic Book Day" on the cover. This year's comics can be found here: http://www.freecomicbookday.com/comics.asp.
