View Full Version : Calibre Issues
pghaworth 04-09-2009, 07:41 PM First off, LOVE Calibre. Great program.
Now for the problems. I am running 5.6 but the problems started about 3 versions back. I'm getting shutdowns even tho' I leave it running. Also, it no longer fetches the news for me unless I force it manually. I'm tired of restarting it and forcing the downloads. Any ideas what's up? I do have an older version without all the problems I can revert back to but surely I can't be the only one having problems like this.
kovidgoyal 04-09-2009, 07:48 PM What OS are you on?
pghaworth 04-09-2009, 11:04 PM Hi and thanks for responding. Win XP Pro.
kovidgoyal 04-09-2009, 11:06 PM Can you start calibre from a terminal with the command
calibre-debug -g
Let it run and when it crashes post whatever you see in the terminal
pghaworth 04-09-2009, 11:08 PM Okay I did that but I got an error message that says "link hasn't been detected" twice. Other than that it's running and if/when it goes down again I'll let you know.
sirbruce 04-09-2009, 11:12 PM You'll probably need to be in the Calibre directory.
pghaworth 04-09-2009, 11:15 PM Okay, thanks.
pghaworth 04-09-2009, 11:16 PM I did that and still got the same message twice.
pghaworth 04-09-2009, 11:26 PM Another thing I forgot to mention. Around the same time that the other issues started, I began getting 3 files for each download instead of one. I got the mobi file for my Kindle, a jpg file and an opf file. I only want the mobi file on my device and on my pc so I delete the other two. I was just wondering tho' why all of a sudden I'm getting the extra files? I know the jpg is the cover file but have no clue what the opf is. Should I be getting 3 files on each news download now?
kovidgoyal 04-10-2009, 12:11 AM Are you using Send to device or save to disk to send books to your Kindle?
sirbruce 04-10-2009, 12:27 AM Don't delete the files on your computer. Just use "send to device" to send the books to your Kindle.
Jill75 04-10-2009, 12:54 AM It may be that you have set the option of your new calibre to save to disk option than send to device.
pghaworth 04-10-2009, 10:06 AM I do both. First I save to disk, single file, then I either send it to main memory or if it's working for me (now), I let the program email them to my device. I see no problem in deleting the extra files on my computer because after they've been sent to my device (the mobi files) I don't need the extra ones. I'm just saving to my pc as a back up.
I do have it configured to save to disk, but I did all along. Now I also email them.
pghaworth 04-10-2009, 10:55 AM So far today most everything went okay. I did get this messsage tho'.

It will only save the jpg and opf files when you use Save to disk. Use send to device instead.

You have to wait till it crashes
pghaworth 04-13-2009, 11:44 AM Kovid thank you for your help and your wonderful program. Just wanted to let you know that all is now working flawlessly even tho' nothing changed. Makes no sense, I know, but there you have it. Thanks again for everything. Love Calibre!
pghaworth 04-17-2009, 11:07 AM It will only save the jpg and opf files when you use Save to disk. Use send to device instead.
Not true - I get all three files of each feed, every day. I get the opf, jpg and the mobi. Before I only got the mobi when I saved to disk. Now I get all three types for each feed but delete the ones I don't need each morning after they're emailed.
It hasn't crashed any more.
pghaworth 04-17-2009, 11:48 AM Here's what I get when I select send to disk.
kovidgoyal 04-17-2009, 12:50 PM Use "Send to device" not "Save to disk"
pghaworth 04-17-2009, 02:11 PM Send to device is accomplished by the automatic emailing so I don't need to send to device. I think my original post was missed, about saving it on my computer for archival purposes. I'm fine with everything the way it is. No worries. Thanks again. Made small donation last night but wish I could do more. Your program is really great.
