View Full Version : Well, I must be getting better ...
RickyMaveety 03-23-2009, 09:43 PM because I'm starting to notice errors in the medical shows again ...
Expectant mother starts bleeding ...
Doctor: Get me two units of O negative STAT!!
OK .... here's why it's wrong wrong WRONG!!!
Any expectant mother is going to have a blood typing done pretty much the second she gets into the hospital.
Without specifying packed cells, the doctor has about a fifty percent chance of having whole blood transfused.
If the mother is any type other than O, the O whole blood could do some pretty nasty things to her body and could damage the fetus as well.
And ... that's how I know I must be getting better ...
lilac_jive 03-23-2009, 09:54 PM Ok miss smarty pants...
Can you tell me what is wrong with my back? :(
ShortNCuddlyAm 03-23-2009, 09:56 PM Glad you're getting well enough to nitpick med shows again :D
Lilac - maybe you need a holiday to get over the reading and sunburn? ;)

I agree wholeheartedly :D

Can you tell me what is wrong with my back? :(
Hell no. I can't even say for certain why I've been so damn sick for two days.
But, because I like you so much, I'm not going to charge you for the advice I'm not giving you. ;)

Well that's a relief :p
Hope you feel better! Have you gone to the doctor?

No, I'm due to go on Friday for the last check of my wrist and hand. I think by then I will be much much better.
I was even able to feed the cats and take the trash out tonight without puking ... or even feeling like I really needed to.
If I can get through all my evening chores intact, then I'll know for certain that I'll be good to go tomorrow.
lilac_jive 03-23-2009, 10:49 PM Yuck....

I'm not a "miss smarty pants," but rather a Mr. Dr. Smarty Pants... So I'll tell you what's wrong with your back: Nothing. There's absolutely nothing wrong with your back. The problem is that you're trying to use it incorrectly. You know that stuff that hurts when you do it? Don't do that! :p:p

P.S. Note that I'm "Dr. Smarty Pants" because I have a Ph.D. in Software Engineering. I don't even pretend to be an MD! On the other hand, having a Ph.D. seems to mean that I'm 'qualified' to opine on any topic, whether it's part of my expertise or not. (Don't ya just LOVE the academic environment?)

Your hamstrings are too tight. Do stretches.
It worked for me

Or else you stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
(I couldn't resist - sorry!)

pshrynk 03-25-2009, 12:09 PM Your back hurst because you have issues with your mother.
$300, please, you can pay the laddy by the door.

I think you took instructions from my last therapist!
pshrynk 03-25-2009, 12:34 PM I think you took instructions from my last therapist!
I've been at this long enough that the therapist probably took instructions from me. :p
krisk 03-25-2009, 12:45 PM Well there ya' go. But yeah, EVERYTHING was my mother's fault and of course I had numerous dreams about her stabbing me or vice versa.
Anyway....
pshrynk 03-25-2009, 01:00 PM There you have it...
krisk 03-25-2009, 02:39 PM There you have it...
You know of course the therapist was TELLING me that I was having those dreams. I was just in denial and unwilling to admit it. According to him.
pshrynk 03-25-2009, 02:40 PM Hey, we gotta make a living somehow! :p
krisk 03-25-2009, 02:42 PM Yeah, no kidding! Plant those issues damnit!
pshrynk 03-25-2009, 02:46 PM On a more serious note, there was a time back in the 80's when some boneheaded therapists actually created pathology by taking highly suggestable patients and grilling them about having multiple personalities. It used to drive me nuts when a therapist would walk into a staffing and announce she's found yet another multiple. One therapist stated that he had no less than 200 patients with multiple personality and was, in fact a specialist. He was not amused when I asked him how it was that 60% of the North American poplulation of persons with Multiple Personality Disorder were living in Moline, Illinois, population 46,000.
/rant off...
krisk 03-25-2009, 03:21 PM *snort* I know there was a huge issue with "repressed memories". I had one really horrid one that surfaced when I was about 35. I was very upset by it for a few years and finally asked my Uncle and he confirmed that it was indeed true. What a difficult issue!
RickyMaveety 03-25-2009, 03:43 PM Well, of course, I got hit by a truck and got food poisoning because of repressed memories of abuse.
Except, they aren't repressed and they have f**k all to do with anything that actually bothers me.
pshrynk 03-25-2009, 03:53 PM Hey, I'm not the one who was doing that sort of bull roar. I've been aurally assaulted by therapists who want to blame everything on Satanic Ritual Abuse. I know one who would have woven a sad tale for you that would have you believing that you did indeed hist the semi because of the abuse you forgot about because of the programming, yada yada yada... At least for about two seconds before actual reality crashed back to your senses and you told her to bugger off.
krisk 03-25-2009, 08:13 PM Fortunately mine wasn't anything like that. My Dad was very suicidal one time. I had completely blocked it for years and finally asked my Uncle. He is the one who had to physically restrain him.

I realize that. And, I would assume that the same total dick-wad would probably try to convince me that the hail storm that just killed my new car was the result of Satanic Ritual Abuse as well.
I just brought it on myself using my anger directed through my kinetic super powers.

Not feeling all that much better. Haven't eaten anything much since Saturday night ... and still can't, except for a nibble of fruit and grain bars. I think I've kept maybe four of those down since then.
Technically, yes .... I hit the truck. The truck didn't hit me. It just sort of laid itself across the road and blocked my path while I was doing seventy.

You got sentenced to seventy years? What did you do? :zoiks: Do they still have that law about being nice to small furry animals again?

slayda 03-27-2009, 08:46 PM Ricky, I know you want to be getting better. We all want that too. If I were closer, I'd come try to be a nurse but you'r probably prefer that I stay away - I'm not very good at it.
ShortNCuddlyAm 03-27-2009, 08:47 PM Doing nn - slang/shorthand for spending nn years in prison (in this case, 70); because the authorities finally got fed up with you being nice to animals.
I think.

No one should have to be around me when I'm sick. Fate worse than death.

Must be a UK sort of thing. We do say "doing time" here ... and I have heard "doing 25 to life" used here .... but for the most part, when we just say "doing nn" .... we're talking speed, and not the drug kind either.
Yes, it has been a little worrisome here since I took in the stray puppy that was abandoned. However, someone I know is going to take him home with her on Tuesday, so no one will be able to bust my chops over him. He'll be in a nice new home with someone who will love him.

Over here, it can depend on the context. "Doing nn years" is more common than just "doing nn", but both would be understood in the right context. Of course, an eavesdropper from a country that had corporal punishment for criminals might get the wrong idea if they heard one person saying that another got 6 for armed robbery.

Oh that's good that he's found a nice home. Hope your two girl pups don't miss him too much!
lilac_jive 03-27-2009, 10:51 PM I've been fighting the feeling to puke for the past half hour. It hit me all of a sudden. I want it to stop so I can go to sleep :( Maybe I ate too much today?

That's how it hit me, very all of a sudden. If you keep feeling that way, then it might be the bug.

I got a wet cool washcloth and put it on my stomach for a half hour. That helped. Feel fine now, I think whatever I ate didn't like me.
