View Full Version : This light works great for me
snape 02-11-2009, 03:02 AM Pairing the Kindle (either 1 or 2) with a standard-sized LightWedge book light has been the perfect combination for me. The LightWedge casts just the right amount of light onto the screen, without any glare or reflection. In fact, I like using it with the Kindle even more than a regular book, because I don't have to move the Wedge every time I turn the page - with the Kindle, everything stays in place and I just press the "next page" button. Brilliant!:2thumbsup
daffy4u 02-11-2009, 03:08 AM Cool. :) Could you post a pic or two showing how the wedge fits on/with the Kindle? Is it ackward to hold it and the Kindle?
Those wacky Light Wedge folks said they were working on a light for the Kindle and nearly a year later... nothing. :(
DaisyMama 02-13-2009, 05:26 PM Thanks for the tip! A picture would be great!
giedre 02-13-2009, 11:33 PM If they would make a light wedge cover just like they did for the Sony reader that would really make my day!
KindleKat 02-14-2009, 03:03 PM Hmm, i'll have to give this a try
Old Man 03-18-2009, 08:58 PM Pictures would be nice. I am looking for a good reading light for my K2. Something that attaches to the Kindle itself, not a cover. I read on K2 without a cover although I do use a cover for transportation.
Any ideas?
HAPPY READING!!!

Yeah, I started using a Lightwedge (paperback sized) with my K1 a few weeks ago.
It works fine, and I find that it gives the screen some added protection when I have them both tucked in my zippered case.
It's not a perfect fit ... but it does not cause the glare on the screen like a standard book light, and it gives me plenty of light to see the page.
InlawBiker 03-18-2009, 09:09 PM I use the 'paperback' model Lightwedge with my K1. It's not ideal but it works. The paperback model is just a bit shorter than the Kindle itself and a little wider.
Anyway I've found it works in two ways. Keeping the K1 in the leather cover:
1. Wedge the Wedge (haha) light-edge first into the two holder tabs to the left of the Kindle. So the spine of the Lightwedge is to the right. This can work, but sometimes slips out of the tabs. It also blocks the page-back button, and make access to the Next Page button a little harder.
2. My preferred method, open the Kindle cover and just prop the Lightwedge up on the left-hand inside cover. The Wedge illuminates the Kindle's face enough to read by and doesn't cover the Kindle at all.
The real ideal would be a custom cover like the Sony PRS-505 has.
Greg.
MoboHobo 03-19-2009, 03:21 PM Same request from me regarding pics... if possible. :)
Old Man 03-19-2009, 07:20 PM I emailed Lightwedge last night about a Lightwedge for the K2. i received a reply today from Anna at customer service saying that this is on the design team's list to consider for 2009. If enough of those who would like one would email them maybe it will get done.
AuPhinger 03-19-2009, 11:24 PM Good idea, Old Man, I also wrote them. Here's their email addy; also, here's a link to a picture.

fugazied 03-20-2009, 01:17 AM Woh, I'd never seen one of those lights before. They look great!
Just found out Amazon sell them as well.
TallMomof2 03-20-2009, 07:53 PM I bought the Verilux one and I was very disappointed. The clear acrylic had a few tiny bubbles and it seemed to me that it lessened the contrast.
kyliedork 03-22-2009, 10:26 AM yeah, i got my light from amazon on friday.
Old Man 03-23-2009, 07:57 PM kyliedork, which light did you get? Was it a Lightwedge or something else? How is it working for you?
dhill 03-24-2009, 06:31 PM FYI, I bought one of these today with the case included at Borders in LA (Westwood) on sale for $19, down from $39. It rang up as a "Promo".

I got the lightwedge for a lightweight like myself :)
it does exactly what its supposed to do, no complaints.
Old Man 03-26-2009, 07:04 PM Thanks, KD. Looks like what I need.
randyrrt 03-29-2009, 11:58 PM Hi,
I'm new to the forum, but I have a LightWedge and thought that I might respond to a previous post about some defects...
I had an older full page (original) LightWedge and was happy with it. After purchasing a Kindle 2, I read some reviews on Amazon about various lights and the LightWedge was mentioned. I got out mine and tried it and felt that it should work well, but the original size was a little large. Other posts had mentioned that the paperback size seemed to work well (at least with the original Kindle) so I ordered one from one of the Amazon sellers with a good price for the light and the soft case in one package (which I would recommend because the plastic can potentially scratch easily if not protected--I leave my original in the box it came in with protective foam).
When the new paperback size arrived I discovered two things: the LED's used in the newer product have a brighter more bluish white tint (which I liked better) than the original which had a slightly more manilla/yellow-orange tint. the new LightWedge seemed to be scratched.
When I looked more closely under magnification, I found that the "scratches" were not on the surface but bubbles and some contaminants (a couple of small fibers or hairs) within the plastic itself. When I compared this to the original, there seemed to be a definite difference in quality. I contacted the seller and he was gracious enough to accept the return (but only had the one in stock) so I reordered from another seller. I also found that Barnes and Nobles had them in stock (without the soft cover) but the prices were a little better from the Amazon sellers.
I believe that this was an isolated case, but thought others should know in case they receive one that is not crystal clear also.

goggin 04-04-2009, 04:56 PM I thought I'd try the paperback size...and was very disappointed. The quality of the plastic is way unacceptable....many tiny bubbles and imperfections that distract from the experience, the light doesn't illuminate the page evenly...many dark spots, it doesn't physically fit the Kindle...awkward to hold in place, and finally, it just doesn't provide enough light for my taste. So in the drawer it goes with other book lights I didn't care for.
I haven't found anything to beat the Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 Clip-On Light yet...but I'm hoping I will since that light is really to bulky for conveniently carrying around. Works great from my night stand, but doesn't go in the brief case to go with me for the day (my Kindle does go with me).
Perhaps the re-designed M-Edge Illuminator will be the magic combination of small, easy to carry around, and gives good light.
Just my experience, but perhaps it will help someone else.
Old Man 04-06-2009, 09:51 PM Randyrrt & goggin, thanks for the info. I'm still looking for a light and will be happy for any suggestions. I do use my K2 without a cover so it would really need to attach to the Kindle itself. Again, Thanks!
NormHart 04-07-2009, 08:39 AM Hey Old Man,
I have the Kindle 2 and a http://www.amazon.com/Mighty-Bright-XtraFlex2-Kindle-Version/dp/B000TXZIDM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=fiona-hardware&qid=1239103849&sr=1-2
This will clip directly to the Kindle 2 without a cover. As others have mentioned it is a bit bulky but does give good light. I use it mostly in dimly lit restaurants and it serves the purpose.
pluses; 2 levels of light, clips on to Kindle without cover
negatives; bulky, glare off screen unless carefully oriented
I will eventually find something to replace this but for now it does the job and the price is right.
:2thumbsup
Old Man 04-10-2009, 06:57 PM Thanks, NormHart!
Decided to order on your recommendation. Clipping directly to the K2 was my #1 priority.
Like you I will continue to search for something less bulky.
