Word came to us that ACCESS (http://nfppc.access.co.jp/english/) released a new version of NetFront, a highly funcational embedded web-browser for Pocket PC devices. With the up-to-date version, NetFront finally fully supports Windows Mobile 2003SE (including VGA resolutions)!

According to ACCESS, new features of NetFront v3.2 include:

Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition for Pocket PC support
Flash support
Java support (through JV-LITE2 CE)
Rapid-Render (renders Web page content while downloading it)
Japanese domainname support
Outlook Web Access support
Client certificate-based authentication

The browser conforms to the latest W3C standards including: HTML4.01, XHTML1.1, ccHtml, XHTML Basic 1.0, WML1.3, CSS 1 & 2, EC$$MAScript 3rd Edition (JavaScript 1.5), DOM1, 2 and Dynamic HTML, GIF and animated GIF, BMP, PNG and JPEG and MNG, HTTP1.1, SSL2.0/3.0, TLS1.0, and Cookies.

Current registered owners of ACCESS NetFront V3.1 will have to buy a new licence (we're not sure about discounts). A trial with restricted functionality is available for download (http://nfppc.access.co.jp/agree.html) (in Japanese, English hopefully soon).

Edit: Direct download link (http://nfppc.access.co.jp/data/NF32PPC3ARJR10D.ZIP) (trial PID: NF32PPC3ARJR10D)

Thanks Alexander! I hope that the English version comes out quickly. The hack I'm using to get VGA support in Netfront 3.1 on my Dell X50v works OK in general, but has some gaps in the coverage.

Tanker I didn't know you had an X50v. Welcome to the club! And I've always associated your name with Palm ;)

I contacted Access to find out when the English version was due. Alas, I haven't received a reply yet.

Thanks! The X50v is a recent development. I'm writing a series of articles for MobileTechReview on my impressions as I go along, and already have a market commentary published here (http://www.mobiletechreview.com/editorials/winds_of_change.htm). So far, I'm very impressed. In fact, I'm using iSilo on PPC as my primary daily news reader and expect to register it on this platform shortly. iSiloX scheduling and ActiveSync integration have become most impressive.

I'm very much looking forward to a native VGA Netfront. There's no browser on the Palm that comes close.

:) netfront in my clie in landscape mode comes very close. The big disadvantege is that I can browse only one page at a time :(
Ofcourse netfront 3.1 and opera 7.55 on my vga zaurus will blow any ppc or palm browser away.
