I just bought a kindle and I was looking for a case. I was looking at a few different ones: like this one (http://www.amazon.com/Premium-Silicone-Cleaning-Reading-included/dp/B001BT46GI/ref=tag_stp_st_edpp_ttl), or this one (http://www.amazon.com/M-edge-Leisure-Jacket-Amazon-Kindle/dp/B001C5PI8G/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1228886385&sr=8-15). Which one would you recommed including any others that you know about?

I'm also looking for a book light, which one would you recommend?

Also what is the largest SD card that it will except (unofficially)?

Thanks

I, and many others on here, have the previous version of this case (http://www.amazon.com/M-edge-Executive-compatible-e-Luminator-booklight/dp/B0016T0MNO/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1228921310&sr=1-3) and love it. I've never taken the pack-in case out of the wrap. The version I linked is designed to also hold this light (http://www.amazon.com/M-edge-e-Luminator-Booklight-Amazon-Kindle-PRE-ORDER/dp/B001JA37DM/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1228922019&sr=1-9), which makes carrying both simple. I have this one (http://www.amazon.com/Mighty-Bright-XtraFlex2-Light-Compatible/dp/B001CBEE76/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1228922075&sr=1-5), which I like quite well, but has to be carried separately and attached to the case each time you want to use it.

I think people have tried 16GB SD cards. I know for a fact that this 8GB card (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000OF6V7M) works like a champ, because I have my 50MB collection on it. :)

I have heard those silcone type covers can be hard to get it on and they trap dirt and get a little nasty. You might want to try a skin, they look great and will protect your K from getting dirty. Then a good cover to protect even further and make it easy to read.

I have heard good things about the M edge as mentioned above but I have this one (http://www.amazon.com/Travel-Package-Amazon-Kindle-Leather/dp/B001ESPB5G/ref=pd_bbs_5?ie=UTF8&s=apparel&qid=1228930817&sr=8-5) which comes with a light. It is slim and light weight and l like it a lot but just switched to an Oberon which was a gift and is pretty amazing but pricey.

There are several post already on this board on skins and covers... look through and I am sure you will be able to choose what you need.

So the M-edge Leisure Jacket is not a very good case? Its made by the same company as the other case you all recommended. The only problem with it is I've read some reviews that said sometimes it push's the page buttons on accident, which would get annoying.

Is there any physical store that sells M-edge products so I could try it out before I buy it?

Thanks

My three Kindles all have homemade cases, created from a Franklin Covey DayOne appointment notebook.

It was important for me to have a case that provided a lot of protection as well as a zippered closure.

At the time I made mine, no one sold much of anything that I liked.

I would be very cautious in purchasing any of the commercial cases. If someone says they use a particular case, ask them why they like it and how they use their Kindle. Have they ever dropped it?

Good luck finding something that you really like and that protects your Kindle.

I saw on another thread that one of your cases had a notepad on the opposite side of the Kindle. Do you find that provides enough screen protection, or do you have any other types of screen protection on any of your diy notebooks?

I agree with your comment here! We bought our three children (27, 25, and 17 years old) Kindles for Christmas. We bought these new Medge covers for each of them, except we chose the Black leather, the Mocha and Chocolate, and a Blue one so that each would have their own special cover. They are very nice!

Ok I just had a thought, I'm a student and I live with a backpack on my back all day, so if I had case that could attach to my backpack with a carabiner (one of those snap hooks) then I wouldn't have to carry it, and run the chance of leaving it somewhere, or stick it in my backpack and have to stop and take my backpack off to get it out. But the case needs to have some sort of loop that I could attach it to, I haven't seen a dedicated kindle case like that. Have any of yall, or have any thoughts about a case that would do the job?

Thanks

Um, the case would need more than a snap hook to attach it. It would also need to be 'bang proof'. Otherwise, one good bump and your Kindle is an expensive door stop.

Is there any case you would recommend?

I don't expect to get too banged up, but yes it could happen.

why would it need more than something to attach a snap hook to, I mean yes it would be free floating but the place I was going to attach it to on my backpack would only allow it to bump me in the chest, so it would be bumped around but it shouldn't be to bad. But I am used to my electronics being well made, like my macbook pro which is just about indestructible.

How fragile is the Kindle?

Its the screen you have to worry about. And about how fragile?
Just depends on how its hit. The info video shows it being drops from like 30" without harm........but some have complained about screen harm after leaning on it, or dropping it from a lessor height.
I haven't done any research on 'hard' cases, but that's one I'd want if it were being transported loose.....I have mine in the M-edge leather case, and I love it..but when 'we' go anywhere, its in the middle section of my purse.

The Kindle is not built like your mac book pro. :)

Maybe something like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Carrying-Electronic-Reading-Included-protector/dp/B001AKG00S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=apparel&qid=1229205517&sr=8-1

anyone else ?

I saw that one, but as far as I could tell, it didn't have any way to attach it with a snap hook to my backpack. Any Ideas?

I think Kindle is too fragile for something like that. You would need something with some serious protection.

I think you're right.

Any idea where a true hardshell case could be found? I've checked on Amazon.....

I haven't seen a good hard case for the Kindle yet because there isn't one made specifically for the Kindle. Someone out there should build one.

You subject your investment to the threat of theft by hanging it outside your backpack. My humble opinion.

You could try this (http://www.sfbags.com/products/kindle/kindlecase.htm)site. I have their large sleeve case. It fits the K w/its original case, which I think protects it pretty well. I got the shoulder strap and I added a cell phone case that has a small wallet feature and I can just grab the whole unit and take off.

I have the same one, only in red. I love it, but its totally unsuitable for hanging on the outside of a backpack like bigmat wants to do.

Ok I fixed my problem. Kinda of a weird solution, sorta of off topic, but here it goes: I need some new pants, so I went to the store and bought all cargo pants that have the huge pockets on the legs. So I can carry my kindle in the leg pocket (solved two problems with one idea) :)
I know this might not be the best solution, since I could hit my leg on something and break the screen, but it is a lot better then carrying the kindle around in my hand and potentially leaving it somewhere. I'm cooking up another solution, but I'm not sure it would be very practical, it would be safer though.

Also I'm thinking about buying one of those M-edge leather cases you all keep going on and on about. I don't like the way that the kindle can fall out of the stock case, makes me uneasy about using it. Plus I would like to carry a book light around with it, and the m-edge case is the only one that easily integrates a light into the case (when that light comes out in jan.)

Thanks for all your ideas, suggestions and comments, if you have anymore let me know.

@FranSeaLou: I found those cases awhile ago, but was unhappy with the prices. Also since I already have to carry around a backpack, carrying a second case that large seemed kinda dumb. Thanks for the idea.

I love the Oberon cover. I needed something fancy, so the Kindle can compete with mine Sony's Dooney & Bourke cover. I can't tell you guys how truly beautiful the Oberon covers are in person; pictures don't do them justice!

I have the same case as Lilly and it's great. Probably not what would work for Bigmatt but the Oberon covers are beautiful, functional, and are top quality workmanship. Here's their page of Kindle covers.http://www.oberondesign.com/shop/cart.php?m=product_list&c=66

Did you have any problems with the color bleeding onto your Kindle? I got a red one and now my Kindle is a pink & white swirl.

The case I have is the M-Edge like Octochick shows in her message. I do like the way that you can "stand up" the kindle for reading hands free.

The Oberon leather does not bleed (the inner is black suede and black leather like the Amazon case for all the Oberon covers). They come in corners or velcro. Here is a picture of the insides from the Oberon site. I have the velcro because I love the floating look of the Kindle.

I had heard the early M-edge red ones did bleed, but the later ones (since June, anyway) don't......at least mine hasn't, and the Amazon Kindle discussion pages say the same thing.

Hi everyone,

I have a silicon cover for my kindle2 to protect it from scratches and dirt.
But I'm also looking for a HARD case to add extra protection to the screen since I usually keep hard objects other than kindle in my bag.
Does anyone know if there is a good hard case that will fit kindle with the silicon cover on? Has anyone tried with the Oberon covers?

Thanks~

I just purchased a Kindle 2 as we call in in the United Kingdom. I have seen many cases but all are expensive. I read about a company that is getting stock in the next week and the prices are very good with fast UK delivery.

They have an update on there blog here (http://blog.channelgoods.com/index.php/795/uncategorized/amazon-kindle-2-out-in-the-uk/)

or visit the website www.channelgoods.com

they are incredibly good and durable leather cases! these are made from "belly leather" which quite often goes for the soles of shoes to give an idea of the thickness of the leather
