8 Leather Kindle covers from Oberon Designs (http://www.oberondesign.com/shop/cart.php?m=product_list&c=66). Pricey at $75 each. :)

Pics (http://www.kindleboards.com/index.php/topic,115.msg13793.html#msg13793) of a cover in use from the Kindleboards site.

Edit: Fixed the link to the picture of the cover in use.

These are more expensive than even the StylzWorld cases, but still are just using velcro to secure the Kindle? Amazing if anyone buys them. They look great on the outside, but I can buy any of these designs as a journal cover for $25-$45 each at b&n and just cut out the paper and add velcro. For this kind of money they need a more dedicated holding system.

These are works of art, I've always love Oberon, but had no use for a journal. I am certainly going to be getting one. I've held their products in my hands, and they are truly works of art. Lusting after one actually. Also made in the US.

Ditto. They are gorgeous -- but they still make me glue something to my Kindle????? I DON'T THINK SO!!!

But I might just go look at B&N at the journals you mentioned.

Hey, I already have Velcro attached to my Kindle, so what to a little more. All the types of Velcro I have tried attach well to the Kindle and peel off cleanly.

And nonsense. You may be able to buy something similar, but there is no way it will be as nice. Not a single solitary hope.

Look, just a 2 minute search on Amazon found this one (http://www.amazon.com/Refillable-Leather-Journal-Embossed-Designs/dp/B000QSGJ6U/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=office-products&qid=1227163340&sr=1-4), this one (http://www.amazon.com/Romance-Refillable-Leather-Journal-Embossed/dp/B000VMCSRA/ref=pd_sim_op_3), and this one (http://www.amazon.com/Italian-Design-Leather-Butterfly-Journal/dp/B001DT2Y2E/ref=sr_1_22?ie=UTF8&s=miscellaneous&qid=1227163861&sr=8-22). Barnes and Noble had journals like this one (http://gifts.barnesandnoble.com/Home-gift/Tivoli-Embossed-Floral-Tan-Wrap-Italian-Leather-Journal/e/9780641720543/?itm=10). All of the above are more than "even close".

I know everyone has their favorite stationary vendor and can be fiercly loyal, even when the products can be purchased elsewhere cheaper, but lets keep things with some semblance of reality around here folks.

Well, after griping about the velcro, I'm still itching to buy one. But the web page -- which showed me covers earlier -- now says there aren't any. I wonder if they sold out already? Or if it's just a web glitch.

My understanding is that these covers are hand made by a small company and take some time to create. There are a number of people on Amazon who've been gushing over these covers, so they may be temporarily sold out.

I'm grateful to 2 of the Kindleboard people --- who did what I've been thinking about, and recorded the results. They bought a 6x9 Oberon journal, and just inserted the original Kindle cover into that. (I may do a variation on that; we'll see). EBay has a couple of re-sellers of Oberon journals, so there are slightly more covers already made up and ready to sell than there are Kindle covers. Plus, I wanted a design that isn't currently offered as a Kindle cover.

So ... I bought a 6x9 Oberon journal cover and will wrap it around my Kindle with loving care!

The Amazon thread now reports that they have pulled the covers to rework them due to the issues people are having with using velcro.

It appears that while the velcro worked, they listened heard the velcro feedback and actually bought a machine so they could add corners. Those who already purchased will get a choice of velcro or the corners.

Talk about listening to their customers! My original cover works fine and was holding off for a cover with a built in lite... but have to admit this makes me want to buy from them.

You now have a choice, Velcro or leather corners to hold your Kindle. The pictures shown are prototypes, but you can see them here: http://www.oberondesign.com/store/kindle.php

Oh, these are lovely!! Although, I would love it if they made a zipper cover that was tooled. That would be my ultimate have to purchase case.

I saw their pics of the new corners, and I must admit I'm jealous! However, since they wrote back to my email and said they are only doing a limited set of designs this year, I won't regret my decision to buy a 6x9 journal and convert the cover. I cut the front cover off my original Kindle case (since there was no way I was going to use it again) and nestled the back cover into the slot for the journal to fit. I added velcro to the right edge only -- and it also serves to keep the orig-case-back-cover securely in place, since it can't move against the velcro. The Oberon designed-to-fit-a-Kindle is only 8 inches tall, so mine has an extra 1/2 inch on top and bottom (see 2nd shot). But since it is such lovely leather, I don't mind it!

Here are the shots of the cover design I chose:

I got the Avenue of Trees cover and I think it is beautiful. I agree these are works of art. They are handmade and amazing quality. IMO, well worth the price and something I will use for the life of my Kindle.

Here are pics of mine... along with a great little case I got on Esty from this seller (http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5285741). My Kindle in the cover, fits perfectly and I can fit it all into my purse.

They also made them so they will stand up on their own, great when you want to read hands free.

Corners!!!! CORNERS!!! corners corners corners!

The cover that I cannot remember the name of relied on velcro. It was HORRID! The Oberon covers look like they copy the M-edge almost exactly and they have been PERFECT!!!! (My kindle skis!)

I got the velcro & I love it. I love the way it looks like the Kindle is "floating" in the cover - very clean look. And it's very secure. Now if you prefer reading on a "naked" Kindle, the corners are probably a better choice, but I always read with the cover on.

As I noted on my post on the Leonardo cover I made, unless Amazon is not making the new hinge attachment on its Kindle 2 cover available to aftermarket manufacturers, there's no reason for any of those manufacturers to use other mounting solutions. Amazon's hinge attachment is simple, reliable, and aesthetically far more pleasing than Velcro and the standard corner pieces. The new hinge attachment, which was designed specifically to work with the Kindle 2, is a brilliant solution, very easy to use, and it works. Why settle for anything less?

Hinge or no hinge I am still in love with my Oberon. Of course, I have an original Kindle but I think that even if I had a K2 I'd have an Oberon. I've already got my eye on another design but can't justify having 2 covers for one Kindle. The workmanship is just incredible and the leather feels so good in the hand.

Just received the following in the mail from Oberon:

Dear Oberon Design Customer,
It's come to our attention that the rivet heads on our Kindle 2 covers that hold our corner straps down may mark the back of your Kindle 2. Of the hundres of Kindle 2 covers shipped in the last several weeks, we have heard from two customers with questions on this potential problem. Enclosed you will find two felt 'dot pads' with adhesive backing which we are now appling to all our K2 covers. Simply peel the backing off and adhere the dots t the rivets heads on your corner straps and press down for a secure connection. This will protect your Kindle backside. Thanks for supporting Oberon Design and we hope you are enjoying your Kindle and your Oberon cover! All the best to you,
The Oberon Team

Now, this is what I call customer service! Not only have they acknowledged a problem after only two complaints, they have fixed it and have sent a fix out to everyone that ordered from them, even though I had no idea that there was even an issue and my Kindle isn't scratched in any way! Would love to see more companies doing this sort of stuff.

It took a while because they had to get hold of a K2 before they could make their covers (they are not an "official" cover maker like M-Edge or Cole Hahn).

There are folks a Kindleboards who are in regular contact with Oberon so posting over their might provide a better time line.

They received their K2 on the first day it was available to the general public, and the K2 covers started shipping a little over 3 weeks later, if I'm recalling correctly. The backlog from the preorders was cleared by the end of March, so the turnaround was pretty decent.

However, I have no idea if there are plans to do a DX cover; I would imagine that it will have a lot to do with demand. Might be worth emailing them to ask.

If someone wanted to do their own, Oberon's large journal cover is designed to hold an 8 1/2" x 11" journal, so the DX should fit. I'd probably use industrial strength velcro to hold the device in if I went that route.

I like their craftsmanship and prefer the corner tabs over velcro. if I get the larger reader (I will at some point, it's just a matter of when), I'll wait for them to make one.
