Greetings. I am planning to buy Cybook specifically for reading my Chm files. I wanted to see how they look on the Cybook after converting them to .prc via Mobipocket and transferring them to Cybook. Can anyone please post some screenshots? I will be quite grateful. Do they maintain their link hierarchy and top navigational breadcrumbs of the chm table of contents as they are seen in converted .prc in the desktop mobipocket software? Can we search in the prc file on Cybook? Thanks in advance for your kind help.

Also, I am having a problem in converting a big 150 MB chm file in the latest Mobipocket 6.2. It starts the conversion and goes up to 60% or so but then all of sudden it is aborted and nothing is converted. Is the mobipocket conversion the only way to get a chm file on Cybook with TOC?

My problem is that I have a 150 MB chm file with sections, subsections, subsubsections in the TOC which I would like to remain intact. Therefore converting to html may not work for me.

MobiPocket is planning to add CHM import to MobiPocket Creator, but it isn't there yet. It would probably fail just as the Reader did anyway.

I have not tried it, but there is a shareware program DoLit CHM2LIT. If it works, you can explode the LIT to OEB with ConvertLIT and import it into MobiPocket Creator (via the .opf file). The advantage of this approach is that you may be able to edit the HTML, or OPF metadata, manually if necessary. Note that MobiPocket's importer is almost certainly a CHM2OEB utility, i.e. the process is CHM -> OEB -> MOBI. It might be CHM -> HTML -> OEB -> MOBI, but I think that would probably loose information. The LIT format is just a thin wrapper around OEB, so CHM -> LIT -> OEB -> MOBI is optimal if the CHM2LIT step is good.

I have the chm authoring program so I will have to do a trial and error by exporting each main tree node to a chm file and see if that works in mobipocket to isolate the node which may be causing a problem. At this time, the only real way to get a .chm file onto the Cybook is to use one of the freeware, shareware or commercial apps (I use ABC Amber CHM) to "explode" it into either Word .doc, .html 3.2 or .html 4.0w/CSS and then use those files to create your .prc file using either BookDesigner or Mobigen/Mobpocket Creator. BookDesigner works okay if there are no tables in the .chm ebook.

For me, I think the best way I've found is to create a ToC section which links each Part or Chapter to a follow-up page that has links to the individual sub-chapter sections. It's a pain to create, but once it's done it reads quite well.

I do it kind of like:

Contents
Part One: (part title)
Part Two: (part title)
Part Three: (part title) (These can all be chapter titles, instead.)

(Page Break)

Part One: (part title)
Chapter One: (chapter title) (Here again, if you used chapter titles already)
Chapter Two: (chapter title) ( you can now use sub-chapters here.)
...

(Page Break)
Part Two: (part title)
Chapter XX: (chapter title)
...

And on from there until the various link pages are created.
