View Full Version : OpenInkpot v0.0 developer preview released
mrdini 07-21-2008, 04:23 PM We are pleased to announce the first usable developer preview of OpenInkpot - ready for you developers to play around with! From our blog (http://blog.openinkpot.org/2008/07/openinkpot-v00-released.html):
Warning! Do not try to install this firmware to V3ext (512mb) version! This may damage internal flash. We will soon release another firmware correcting the errors if you already tried to do it.
Since this is a developer preview, please don't expect too much from the 0.0 version just yet. But we are pleased to say that it can boot on V3 hardware, and currently includes a bookshelf (Madshelf), bookreader (FBReader), and SSH server (dropbear - USB network connection even works occasionally!). However, we would advise that only developers try this release out, as it is not quite ready for end-users to try just yet.
Downloads are at: http://www.openinkpot.org/pub/releases/0.0/oi-hanlin-v3-0.0.tar.bz2
Please do feel free to leave comments. You can also visit us in our IRC channel - #openinkpot on OFTC.
Thanks!
davidw89 07-21-2008, 09:19 PM So this is meant to work with every ebook device?
wallcraft 07-21-2008, 09:42 PM So this is meant to work with every ebook device? This release is for Hanlin v3 / lBook V3. OpenInkpot is also actively working on Netronix EB-600 and Sony PRS-505 ports.
... and Sony PRS-505 ports.
Now we're talking! :p
Any progress report on the Sony port?

Looks *very* interesting. It appears that it won't take much longer to see the first developer preview for the Sony Reader as well. :chinscratch:
davidw89 07-22-2008, 12:22 PM Bye Bye Sony firmware..

Nate the great 07-22-2008, 01:39 PM I know it's a little early, but do you plan to support Wifi?

As far as I know, there's no technical reason why OpenInkpot can't support wi-fi.
However! And this is a very big "however!". :)
No-one in the OI project has any book reader capable of supporting wi-fi, nor SDIO wi-fi cards. Why not donate an Iliad or a SDIO wifi card (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Spectec-SDW-821-SDIO-MINI-Network/dp/B000FD029Q) to the project? :D
(the product in the above Amazon link is just an example though)
godel10 07-22-2008, 05:00 PM Great work.
I wonder whether any owner of a Hanlin could upload a video showing this firmware.

I just sent you a pm about this.
iterati 07-22-2008, 06:14 PM Good effort but very slow to boot (the official firmware boots in 10 seconds more or less). And the library doesn't show anything that is in SD card so far so you can't do much as it is...

You can remove the card and insert it back after 3 seconds. Then just open the SD location in the Madshelf.

This video is old and the Madshelf looks very different now. I had no time to make another video yet :(

Cool, thanks!

Boot sequence right now is taken from our upstream distrbution "as is" - we had no time to tweak it. I'll be optimizing it - you can imagine how inconvenient it is for development.
yunhaid 07-23-2008, 06:01 AM can you provide the complete source codes that can be compiled to the final firmware used for the V3? i want to recompile it in a linux system.

hi!
you can find all sources here: http://git.openinkpot.org, http://www.openinkpot.org/pub/SLIND/pool/
here you can find the instructions how to build the final firmware:
http://www.openinkpot.org/wiki/BuildInstructions
the process is rather simple: bootstrap the slind chrot and then run build-v3 from inside the chroot.

Since I think you're chinese - if you wish, you can ask for help here - http://www.hi-pda.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=424035&extra=page%3D1, and hopefully our chinese developer will be able to help!
joblack 08-13-2008, 10:48 PM Should be not so hard to convert linux to the iliad (except the touchpad and the bootloader).

In theory, I don't think it'd be that difficult. But again, the problem is access to the hardware. No-one in the OI project has access to an Iliad so...
Are you volunteering? :D
