zelda_pinwheel 06-25-2008, 08:31 AM heh... the MR work mantra... all together now...
montsnmags 06-25-2008, 08:31 AM Check MR every 30 seconds. Drink lots of coffee or alcoholic beverages, depending on mood and time of day (no Zany Carter Deluxes before 10am). Quit job.
Cheers,
Marc (I hope this has been of some help)
WDecraene 06-25-2008, 08:37 AM *damn!!*
oh well, I tried. How's life around MR people ?
zelda_pinwheel 06-25-2008, 08:47 AM (resistance is useless)

I'm sure Taylor514ce (http://www.mobileread.com/forums/member.php?u=14714) will be along any minute now to assist you with your question about life?
Cheers,
Marc

pshrynk 06-25-2008, 10:06 AM Luckily, I'm the Department Chair, so I don't have to worry about working all that much.
zelda_pinwheel 06-25-2008, 10:13 AM i knew there was something i was forgetting : DELEGATE. :smack:
cassidym 06-25-2008, 12:44 PM Through iron determination, I don't put MR up on a tab till lunch time. Heck, if I brought it up any earlier it might interfere with my surreptitiously having a read on my Sony, er, I mean working hard. Yes, that's it.
I didn't get an eBook reader to sneak in the occasional chapter at work. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
pshrynk 06-25-2008, 12:45 PM I got the Kindle for interstitial reading. Then I got caught up here, and now I spend my lunch hours doing my notes becasue I keep putting them off.
RWood 06-25-2008, 12:53 PM Running my own company (fancy term for self-employed) leaves me less time for my own pleasures than I had when I was an officer of larger firms. Then I could shut my door and "work on papers." (That was fine as long as my bandwidth requirements didn't slow down the LAN Admin's on-line games.)
RickyMaveety 06-25-2008, 02:17 PM heh... the MR work mantra... all together now...

Had to make a few changes .... but other than that, it is a suitable mantra at that. ;)
nrapallo 06-25-2008, 02:17 PM My workflow nowadays:
Read MR, read, read, post, work, read, read, upload, read, read, oh yeah work, read, read, post... repeat!
:grin2:
tirsales 06-25-2008, 02:20 PM Where did that work slip in? You really have to update your filter!
WDecraene 06-27-2008, 03:43 PM My workflow nowadays:
Read MR, read, read, post, work, read, read, upload, read, read, oh yeah work, read, read, post... repeat!
:grin2:
What's strange though, when I first started on MR, I primarily looked up information about the various readers available on the market so I could decide upon a device - oh exiting times when all's possible - even an Illiad !!
Than I spent a brief time just downloading some of the classics.
Nowadays I spend about 98% of my time in the lounge section ... and I can't get out :uhoh: And I'm not the only one: you need only check the number of posts in lounge compared to the other sections ..
So what's the next level, quo vadis, whereto next ???
DixieGal 06-27-2008, 04:01 PM Work is still a heckish nightmare, but the beginning of a new quarter is Tues. A light at the end of the tunnel. Maybe then my mood will brighten back up to pink.
RWood 06-27-2008, 04:39 PM ... Nowadays I spend about 98% of my time in the lounge section ... and I can't get out :uhoh: ....
Its good to see that the glue we put on the chairs worked.
Seriously, I've just spent most of the day in the shower. The instructions on the shampoo said, "Lather, rinse, repeat" First the hot water ran out and I had to keep going with nothing but the cold water and the three-quarter full bottle of shampoo. At long last the shampoo did run out so I was able to stop.
slayda 06-27-2008, 06:28 PM Luckily, I'm the Department Chair, so I don't have to worry about working all that much.
Hope the department is gentle when they sit on you.

Remember, "A stitch in time saves nine." especially when reading.
Spartacus2112 06-27-2008, 06:41 PM This is all well and good, but I still don't have a reader yet and I cannot elude this place whatsoever! You fine folks are more addicting than crack or whatever your particular vice of choice may be.

WDecraene 06-28-2008, 06:17 AM Luckily, I'm the Department Chair, so I don't have to worry about working all that much.
Are you glued to the chair or are you the actual chair. Is the chair itself cemented or glued to the floor ?

Where do you work ? Zimbabwe ?? ... oh I see ... Venezuela. Well, I still think Venezuela is a better place to be than Zimbabwe
pshrynk 06-30-2008, 09:32 AM Are you glued to the chair or are you the actual chair. Is the chair itself cemented or glued to the floor ?
No glue. And since I've lost weight, I'm no longer the size of an over stuffed chair.:p

YAY! Congrats!
pshrynk 06-30-2008, 10:44 AM On the "similar threads" box, there is a book recommended: "Premature Burial and How it May Be Avoided."
Hmmm...

isn't that brilliant ?
and pertinent to so many of us.
HappyMartin 06-30-2008, 11:06 AM Well, as the world economies tank a lot of us will cease to be irritated by employment it seems.

We'll then be able to irritate other people by starving on the street (US version)/lazily hanging around all day paid for by the Welfare State (EU version).
bbusybookworm 06-30-2008, 04:48 PM I've found myself check MR for new posts every couple of minutes at times, especially when I am trying to avoid getting back to work or studying :).
As you may notice by my posting pattern, it goes way up during exam times:D

Really? I'm using my last paycheck to move to the EU, then.

OK then, we will just have to send out a new casting call for who will play Santa this year.
pshrynk 07-01-2008, 01:06 PM OK then, we will just have to send out a new casting call for who will play Santa this year.
I'm too cranky to play Santa. I got relieved of that duty forever when I said, "Ho, ho, f***ing ho!!"
No one got the humor in that, for some reason.:D

Yes -- if we are reading our e-reader books so avidly that the only movement is that ever so slight pressing of the "next page" button, I suppose we might be in danger of being prematurely entombed. By the non-observant onlooker. :chinscratch:
GeoffC 07-01-2008, 01:09 PM Christmas - not that many days to go...

Oh, but this is worth waiting for. On so many levels.
1. No more Shrub the Lesser
2. Darth Dickie no longer a heart beat away...
3. State Dept no longer run by Condenasty
4. Justice can go back to being about justice, rather than politics.
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas....:xmas:

GeoffC 07-01-2008, 01:18 PM by-the-by, what's work, again ?
pshrynk 07-01-2008, 01:20 PM I thought the Lounge was a political-free zone...
Sorry, I just noticed on my countdown calendar that on 4 July it is exactly 200 days until 19 January, 09.
I'll shut up now.
GeoffC 07-01-2008, 01:21 PM I'll shut up now.
Sorry, not allowed...
Falbe Publishing 07-01-2008, 01:32 PM It appears that you job is boring...just as the shareholders intended so that your mind will become numb and useless.
GeoffC 07-01-2008, 01:35 PM Don't have time to get bored...look at the Lounge - all the intellectual exchanges between persons of a certain intelligence...
