In the "Similar Threads" feature at the bottom of the page are three listings for Harvard Classics Volume 11 (in three formats LRF, PRC, and IMP) which contains Charles Darwin's Origin of the Species as well as the stand alone version of the same book in LRF.

Hedgehogs are no problem whatsoever. In fine Australian tradition, the way to handle them is to introduce a natural predator species, a la Cane Toads and Rabbits. I think Badgers will work.

Since I note that the answer to the Karma Question is the introduction of badgers for spatial achievements, then I fail to see the problem.

Me, as a hedgehog, standing in the library at my home in SL. And, yes, all the books link to PG books.

The hedgehogs (or "hedgies" as they are known in SL) are best friends with the dragons. So, in SL ... you insult a hedgie with a very real risk of being burned to a crisp.

RickyMaveety

What is SL?

Oh .... sorry, I just assumed .... sorry ... sorry.

SL is short for "Second Life." It is an online multi-user "game" (of sorts ... it's not really a game, per se, it is more whatever you want it to be).

Anyway, it's free to sign up and play, although if you get a paid in account it is easier to do things and go places in the game.

You can pretty much be whatever you want and do whatever you want in the game. There are areas that are devoted to particular types of literature, or to war games, or to science and education. Some of the universities have "islands" in the game ... and they actually conduct classes there.

People from all over the world play (so purchasing a translator can be a must if you like to wander around "the world"). Some major cities have islands ... the ones for Venice and Paris are especially nice. I recently base jumped off of the Eiffel Tower .... loads of fun.

In the game (in case any of you around here play) my name is Igraine McMillan. I have a furniture store, and a lovely home out on a private island ... complete with swimming pool and a dog ("Riley"). This last winter, I purchased a weather machine, made it show on my island and froze the pond so I could have a skating party. That's me in my human form, practicing my skating prior to the party.

i thought you said you were a hedgehog ?? i'm so confused. or is it *you* who are confused ??

Some days I'm a hedgehog ... some days a cat ... sometimes I'm human, or a dragon. It sort of depends on where I'm going and what I want to do.

For example, if they are having dragon riding contests over in the areas where the "Dragon Riders of Pern" is the major theme ... then I'll turn into a dragon, put on my saddle, grab a human rider and go off to burn threads.

Or, if I just want to roll down a few hills ... I become a hedgehog. One time ... I became an anthropomorphic cat with wings and flew around London ... just for giggles. I've even been a Martian and flown a flying saucer.

You are whatever your imagination makes you. It's that sort of place.

I bought mine and then modified it. I am much better at building furniture than I am at avatars. My human avatar looks like me about 30 years ago. But then, I'm constantly changing my hair color or skin color to suit my mood.

I will have to look for you ingame (although I'm not on as much as I used to be). That is the nice thing about having between 4-6 screens hooked up to the PC at any time. I can be having a conversation in SL and hanging out here at the same time.

Yes, 4-6 screens. Usually only four, but there are times that I set up an additional two. A lot of my work demands me seeing more than one electronic document at a time, and trying to page between them and keep everything straight is a major pain in the arse.

I think you would probably like it a lot. It's a lot of fun for people with a good imagination. Not so much for people who want to be able to sit back and have a game "entertain" them.

I imagine those sorts of people when they were children, not being able to see the horse in the stick you were riding. I meet people like that ingame from time to time. They always want to know "the point" of the game. How you "win." They are very upset when they here there IS NO point, and no one "wins." The game is whatever you want it to be.

You want to ski?? Do that. You want to be a soldier? Do that. Scared to ride horses? Well, then do that ... it's not like you're going to hurt yourself.

I loved the idea of base jumping, but would NEVER do it in real life. I have a serious fear of jumping off of high places. But ... in the game?? Fuuuun!!!

Please do .... and I can be here and ingame at the same time ... so if you plan to go ingame and want some company ... just holler.

And ... you know .... you could probably stick a fishtail on a hedgie .... and have a fish-hog.

Fish-hog? Sounds promising!
Alternatively you could take a fish and plug a hedge-tail on it: pincushion-tail-fish.

Pff. Hedgehogs perhaps make trouble, but not-hedgehogs not make trouble
i want a t-shirt that says that. i'm going to add it to my list.

Arent badges something worn on the coat? How could they ever be a problem for hedgehogs or not-hedgehogs even when written with an additional 'R'?
badgers ??? we don't need no steeenkeen badgers !!!

in today's news, scientists claim to have pierced age-old evolutionary secrets, and strange new creatures recently discovered (in australia) shed new light on theories of alien fauna populating the region. full story at eleven.

... Oh, okay, thats how stingrays evolved ...

In an odd coincidence, from my top balcony if I look south-east I look over to Lake Weyba (which drains north by Weyba creek into Noosa River). "Weyba" is an indigenous word that is either stated to mean "place of stingrays", which makes sense since it is, well, a place of stringrays, but could also purportedly mean "place of the flying squirrels", which to me is a totally bizarre suggestion in light of Australia having no squirrel population, Rocky-esque or otherwise.

Sugargliders are an entirely different matter, of course.

Cheers,
Marc

if you don't know about them, it's just because they are covert squirrel operatives.

have you noticed any characters who look like this :

Oh, I don't know. I mean, as much as many of us Aussies would like to think otherwise, Australia's real underbelly is alive with scary beasts and a squirming darkness that would drive any sane man or woman insane, and any insane man or woman onto prime time American television (see Steve Irwin...oooo, scary stingray segue). So, while the world gets polarised behind stories of good versus squirrel, the justly named Tasmanian Devil's boiling blood soup of a brain sees "covert squirrel operative" and says to himselves "ARGLLLGARRGLLLLLLAJKKKLLLLSSSSSFFGGGG[CHOMP!]Mmm, tasty spyARRFFFSSSSFFLLLLSFFFFGGGGGGLLLL".

Mad don't care 'bout good or bad.

Well, I cannot doubt The Great Squirrel, but quantum mechanics and superstrings tell me my point is smeared across a significant and infinite number of points and into many squiggly (rather than sqirrelly) dimensions, and so his purpose must likewise be shared amongst an infinite number of puppetmasters jerking and playing tug of war with my destinies. I am just a poor wayang kulit casting transient shadows on a cotton screen and waiting for the oil lamp to be dropped in the holy ruckus, setting the whole lot ablaze.

I think something went skewiff in translation, ;) Mebbe some bits fliped? After all its quite a long way and you never know if they did the curve to tight. If the electron is too fast (with todays broadband-speed quite likely) they could fly out of the curve. A 0 could very fast be squished into a 1 like that!

Oh, they're garden spiders. They won't hurt you. They're too busy battling the large solitary wasps and hornets for control of the garden.
