Hi everyone !
I've been reading these forums for a couple of months now. There is so much information here and everyone seems so friendly. I'm planning on purchasing a Sony before I go on vacation, so hopefully I'll have it soon !

Welcome, welcome. We're glad to have you with us. Let us know which device you decide to get. I love my Kindle and talked my sister into getting one so we can share books.

No not Jacci, sorry.

Yes, I realized that the Jacci A that I know lives in Ohio.

Good to know another J Adams! Enjoy the forum.

As I tell others... Don't be a stranger... be just strange enough.

Welcome! Where are you going on vacation? I took my reader to the "Redneck Riviera" three weeks ago, and it was great to sit under the umbrella and read/snack/snooze/splash all day long. My reader didn't show the print so well in the sun, but it was readable. And I put it into a gallon size Ziploc bag, so it didn't get full of sun or suds.

The gallon bag is a great idea. And an e-ink device -- such as my Kindle or the Sony that JAdams is contemplating -- is easy to read in full sunlight. I will admit that your reader is probably better for reading in the movie theater or in bed.

Elsi - Yes, the backlight was the deal breaker for me, because I'm always reading in bed, commuting, etc. As long as I kept the reader under a shade, it was OK, but not great. So I rigged up lots of ways to make a "shadow." The best thing that worked for me was to put it inside a baseball cap and let the brim shade it. A girl can get pretty creative when it is a matter of reading or not reading! ;)

We are going on a whirl-wind tour of France and were instructed to 'pack light'. I think having e-books will be perfect for any down time.

If you get a Sony 505, you might want to consider the MEdge Leisure Cover. The reader sits in a padded frame and the cover which is clear plastic, zips shut. Very handy for places like the beach. I've got one and find it useful for that and places like the gym. Anyway, you can check them out here www.buymedge.com
