This is the second time all my collections just went -poof-! I'm so frustrated I could just scream, as probably over half my books are part of a series. Last time it had something to do with our favorite error when the Library freezes when you plug your ebook in; this time I had one of those random reboots and the collections came up blank.
I'd happily ditch Sony's POS software and just reload my collection from libprs500, except libprs500 won't see my ebook for some weird reason so I can't load directly. Colllections don't seem to work when loaded from the secondary .lrf files when dragged and dropped.
Now I'll have to recreate 60+ collections, except really why bother? It seems they're just going to disapear in a couple of months anyway.

I've had it happen a few times too. Sucks I know.
You say you need to recreate them did you create them right on the Reader? What I do is create them as part of the main library on the computer. They can then be sync'd or dragged & dropped onto the Reader. Still a pain to even have to do that, but at least they don't have to be created & the books put in order again.

Oh, so you're saying create them in the main library and just drag the collection onto the reader when I want to read the collection? I've just been keeping everything on my reader and card, but it's slowing down the reader. I think I'll go to just having part of the books on the reader itself and skip the card altogether - then I can keep the collections on the computer.
Thanks. I hadn't thought of that, and I worked up a right head of steam, too.

Well actually I keep everything on my Reader & card too. I just keep everything available in the main library too, make recovering from glitches a lot quicker & less painful.

Collections are one of two things that really bug me about the Sony Reader. My PRS-500 has forgotten which books are in which collections and I can't be bothered relabelling them. Plus there is little point because 90% of my books are on my SD Card and you can't put these books in a collection.
The other thing that really annoys me is how sorting by author works. It'd be neat if selecting 'By Author' came up with a list of authors and then you could choose the author you want and see only books by that author - like how sorting by artist works on iPods.

This is one of the reasons I just load a few books at a time onto my reader, read them and then delete/move them onto a cd if I plan to read them again

I've created many a collection on my SD card on my 505 - you just can't mix where the books are coming from (all from internal memory or all from the SD card). Or is this a limitation of the 500?
I'm only 1/4 through recreating my collections. Hurmph.
