If you didn't get the e-mail Sony is giving away a custom skinned 505 (I don't care about the skin or the 6 free books, but I would love to have a 505). The qusetion they require you to answer is:

In stores, the Reader Digital Book (PRS-505) is displayed with a preloaded excerpt of which James Patterson legal thriller?

They are nice and say you can visit a store to find out but the nearest store to me is 400+ miles.

Can someone please help. Thank you.

I promptly deleted the excerpt from mine; however, in going to the link you supplied (from Sony), it shows The 6th Target.

Perhaps that's it.

I will check and submit, but the skinit skin.. its just like a special sticker.. I went to the skinit site, but can't find any for the ereaderI've made a careful search of Skinit's site on two occasions, and also come up empty. There was an effort to request skins for the Reader, though, so there may be some hope.

At the risk of sounding anal: the Sony device is the "Reader" (no "e").

The only reason I mention it is that "eReader" is an ebook format that is not compatible with the Sony Reader. My concern is that calling the device by the format may confuse some folks into thinking that they can use eReader books on the Sony Reader, and I'd rather help folks avoid the consequences of that particular mistake if we can help it. :nice:

Please don't give the answer. That would make it unfair to those of us who do know the answer.

I already sent a PM to Jckatz with the Answer. So there is no reason to post the answer here. According to the rules you do not need to know the answer. You can send an old fashion letter to Sony and still enter the contest.

Is the nearest Borders or SonyStyle 400+ miles away? Did you check for both?

Just because we have one PM of the answer, please people, no begging for the answer.

I live in Springfield, IL and St Louis is closer but I go to Chicago 99 out of 100 times, so it is closer for that reason. And there are borders in Chicago (that I don't need a car for). But I am a Barnes and nobles and Amazon.com book shopper :)

Okay, I am a Canadian living in China. I am eligible to try for this but there are no stores for at least 6000 km. Any help?

A PM would be great. (hint, hint)

For Pete's sake, just go to B&N, look up "jp legal thriller".....answer is Judge & Jury

From the Sony email:
"In stores, the Reader Digital Book (PRS-505) is displayed with a preloaded excerpt of which James Patterson legal thriller?" (Bold added)

So how is going to the B&N website going to help?

Knock knock. (Sorry, I just could not resist).

Wait a minute. Someone posts a request for the answer, and now you're saying that no one else can post or ask for the answer? Since when do you make the rules here?

If anyone has the right answer, please post it. There. I didn't "beg," but I asked politely. It's not like anyone is improperly publicizing a coupon code which shouldn't be posted.

You can find the answer by going to the SonyStyle web-site and looking at the details about the Patterson special edition Reader.

Forget that -- the contest site just told me that the answer which they have at their web-site is wrong.

So, nobody knows the answer or nobody wants to share? Like I said before, the nearest Sony Store with readers is over 6000 km away.

I am very surprised that for a group of such wonderfully sharing people, that nobody has simply posted the answer for those of us who aren't near a physical new 505 to find the answer from.

What, like posting here is significantly going to diminish anybody's chances?

With respect, that's hardly in the "spirit" of the competition, is it?

I'm sorry for people who aren't within reach of the appropriate store (the nearest one is several thousand miles from me) but I feel that it would be "cheating" for someone to be told the answer. Just not cricket at all!

dhbailey

Sure, it's not really in the spirit of "competition" but it certainly is in the spirit of "comraderie" and "friendship" both of which I had thought were more important on this forum than "competition."

Now, back to the "let those lucky enough to live near the stores to find the answers" feeding frenzy resume.

Competition over all! :-)

No, I don't mean "competition between members of the board", but "the spirit of this specific competition". Fair play, and all that, is important (IMHO).

I know I would not be very happy if I found out that someone gave out the answer and the winner was someone who was given the answer. It's not about friendship or camaraderie it's about a contest and the fairness for which one gets the answer. I will give one hint though... If you have a 505 and you've removed the preloaded content, you can find the answer if you look on the CD that comes with the 505.

i'm not eligible for this contest so i'm not specially invested in finding the answer, but it does seem to me that getting the answer from someone else is really not looking for an unfair advantage ; on the contrary, it's a lot closer to levelling the playing field.

why should people who happen to live within easy distance of a sony store (or borders, or whatever) be privileged ? there's no skill involved in that, it's pure chance. if there were some kind of puzzle involved, or an answer you could legitimately find through online research, then the position that getting the answer from someone else is cheating *might* be defendable (and even so, my golly, it's a contest for a giveaway, not an exam to become a doctor), but given the circusmstances it rather seems to me that sony is actually giving a de facto, arbitrary (and unfair) advantage to people who live near their stores, which is pure chance, as i said, and totally irrelevant to their "merit", especially since this is not a merit-based reward, but a random drawing.

Has anyone looking for the answer actually maybe tried searching on the net for the answer?

Doing a search via Google did find me the correct answer.

The answer's already been posted in this thread, don't know what everyone's complaining about.

And didn't they say they'd still enter you in the contest even if your answer is wrong?
