View Full Version : Kindle is in Stock on Amazon.com (19 April)
CCDMan 04-19-2008, 04:32 PM Noted on a Kindle thread, but the Kindle is back in stock (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FI73MA?ie=UTF8&tag=mobileread-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B000FI73MA) as of 1:30 PM (PST) today (Saturday the 19th). Let's see for how long...
Nate the great 04-19-2008, 04:43 PM That's really what it says. Let's see if we can cause a slashdot effect on Amazon.com.
RWood 04-19-2008, 04:51 PM Still available later that day at 16:50 (4:50 pm.)
Ervserver 04-19-2008, 05:10 PM Amazon finally caught up
Amazon finally caught up
Yep. Ordered a second one (for the spouse) on April 15, and it shipped out today.
Friday was a pretty amusing day to watch the Kindle home page. It went from "in stock, shipping immediately" to "shipping April 24" to "in stock soon" and then settled on "in stock April 24th." Now it's just "in stock."
Dylrob 04-19-2008, 06:56 PM Wow, and I was predicting that it would take months for them to catch up....
SanAntone 04-20-2008, 12:52 AM It did take months!
Donnageddon 04-20-2008, 01:10 AM must resist.... must resist... already have PRS-505... must save money....
Dylrob 04-20-2008, 01:11 AM It did take months!
I meant from the point in which eInk announced that they would be doubling screen production. Then again, this may not be directly related.

E Ink did not announce it was doubling screen production. That was PVI. The maker of the displays.

Err, oy right. I get them confused.:smack:
Toadmanor 04-21-2008, 07:23 AM So how long (when) did they stop shipping?
I think they offered this first in November of 2007?
Nate the great 04-21-2008, 07:30 AM Yes. The first Kindles were sold on 19 November. It took Amazon 6 months to the day to solve the supply problems.
JSWolf 04-21-2008, 08:09 AM This could very well mean that sales of the Kindle are dropping off.

I strongly suspect that it is a little of both. Amazon has likely done what they can to up production and as any product ages, it's sales normally slow.
What will be interesting is to see if it STAYS in stock. Many potential buyers don't web browse on the weekend, being busy with family, so may not be aware.
Time will tell....

They've been shipping all this time in increments. It's just that the stock was all spoken for as it came in. People that ordered between November and now went into a queue to receive Kindles as they came in. The wait seems to have been averaging about a month.

I think it's a little premature to say that Amazon have "solved the supply problems", Nate :). All the device manufacturers get their machines in batches; about a month about you could buy a Gen3 straight from stock, too. Lasted about a week :). I'm sure that in a few days, the Kindle will be "out of stock" again.
gadgetguru 04-22-2008, 01:04 AM $399 is not an impulse purchase. The first-in-line crowd has been satisfied. Let's see if the Kindle can go mass-market, the way the Wii has...
Maybe if it got mentioned in the main stream press (not tech blogs), then it could trigger another wave of buyers...
AndiR 04-22-2008, 03:31 PM Could you imagine if every shop you know sent you emails saying that products that weren't are now in stock.
What makes this news?
Yours wondering, AndiRob

Alisa 04-22-2008, 03:57 PM I don't think that's really analogous. This is a board focused on ebooks and reading devices. There are many people here who have been waiting for Kindles. Amazon didn't email everyone with an account and tell them it was back in stock. We're talking about it here because it actually is a matter of some interest to this group just like when the Cybooks were in short supply.
Strether 04-28-2008, 09:06 PM What Harry said. Kindle back out of stock as of today.
What Harry said. Kindle back out of stock as of today.
For about 15 minutes, and it was most likely a joke posting (or a disgruntled employee posting), as the phrase used was "when and if the Kindle is in stock again"
