So here's the "horror'" story you've been wanting to hear
I convert my pdf file to lrf using libprs500 and send it to my prs505 (main memory). I plug out usb, start up my ebook reader and select the file i uploaded. It starts formating for 5 sec or so and walaa iam done. But here's the catch, the paragraph ain't formatted properly when converting from pdf to lrf..
so in PDF it would be
(words)
(empty line)
(words)

in LRF it would be
(words)
(words)
...etc

and also when theres a double empty line it ignores that too :(
So how am i suppose to do a flawless conversion?

Were you using the GUI or the command-line to do the conversion?

If the GUI, then try & "Look & Feel"/"Insert blank lines between paragraphs" checkbox (the "--blank-after-para" option if using the command line).

There is a thread I started with a tool that did a great job converting a PDF to txt. But, no one responded. It isn't free. Others I think have had good luck using the Save As Text feature of the FoxIt reader although I admit I haven't tried it.

BTW: I was waiting for the horror in your story and instead them became one of the "never ending threads". (Damn I got sucked in again.)

For best results converting PDF I generally use Acrobat to save as HTML & then use BookDesigner or just load the PDF into BookDesigner depending on the file. Never had much luck doing it any other way.

When you save the PDF as HTML does it link the TOC to the text?

(I tried the ABC converter last night, and it was no better than Kovid's stuff.)

I'm converting fiction books & for the most part see no need for a TOC so it doesn't really matter to me I guess I've never paid much attention to it.

I just did a test with the PDF of the latest Tor freebie & I get a linked TOC at the beginning of the book in HTML that works great. How the links will work when brought into BookDesigner I'm not sure.

Do you have to pay for Acrobat... or is it free now?

Yes, the full version of Acrobat costs money. I think the free reader will only save as plain text.
