Hi.

I bought Cybook for one main purpose. I want to read spanish books and use dictionary lookup. But some problems appeared...

1. Lookup does NOT work if word is "glued" with some punctation mark (, . - ? etc.)
2. When doing "lookup from lookup" and so on (normal for me) my Cybook hangs or resets muliply times (until reseted with button on back).

I use RAE dicionary (spanish-spanish) bougt on mobipocket site.

Do you have same problems? Bookeen is not answering my emails, so I don't know if they know about these problems.

EDIT:
My Cybook Version is 1.0 build 538

What version of the firmware does your Gen3 have? From the Library screen, select "Advanced" then "About". It's the "Boo Reader" version that's the important thing.

You need to contact Bookeen about this, and report the problem to them. There was a major problem with the machine hanging or rebooting on dictionary lookup in the original firmware v476, but this was fixed in v538. The fact that you're experiencing the problem in v538 suggests that there's something in the specific dictionary you're using that the Gen3 doesn't like. Similarly with the punctuation issue - punctuation should be stripped off the word before it gets looked up - this is what happens with the dictionary I'm using.

Hi,

I have send 2 emails to Bookeen (support@...) but no reply. So I don't know if they know about this problem.

Try sending from a Yahoo or Hotmail address. Mail sent from some ISP's doesn't seem to get through, perhaps due to "blacklisting" by anti-spam software. My experience is that when Bookeen do receive your e-mail, they reply within a few hours.

That is not my experience at all. And how do you know this? How can you know that they have not received an email?

Because they always reply to my e-mail in a few hours. Unless they single me out for "special treatment" (which is highly unlikely), it is therefore reasonable to conclude that non-answers are due to non-receipt of the e-mail.

In my case they responded to my first email after some weeks, a later email, sent months ago, they never responded to.

I refuse to believe that email from my provider is blacklisted. It would only be blacklisted by Bookeen then, not by any other company in the world, which I find very hard to believe.

And it would be ridiculous to have to get a hotmail account to communicate with a company, while you have a perfectly fine, valid, paid-for email account with a completely reliable provider that is not blacklisted or considered a spammer by any other company I have tried to email.

All I can do is relate my own experience, which is that, for the last couple of months (when they got more support staff) they answer e-mail promptly and reliably. Unless you're suggesting that they deliberately choose to answer me and not other people, I can really offer no alternate explanation - can you? You've seen for yourself the prompt replies that I've had to the two queries I've sent recently regarding the firmware update; the first of which was answered in literally 2 minutes, and the second in slightly over an hour.

Anyway, please don't let's turn this into yet another "why don't Bookeen answer their e-mail" thread; that doesn't help the original poster with his problems, does it? I've suggested a solution that he might like to try, just in case something IS blocking his original e-mail; he can try it or not, as he wishes.

I hope for you that you don't have a ...@planet.nl email address, because this ISP, one of the largest in the Netherlands, is blacklisted on a lot of places. For example: You almost never will be able to mail to somebody in Germany with an ....@gmx.net or ...@gmx.de account. GMX beeing one of the larger German mail systems. Your mail will be blocked very early in the process, it even does not show up in the users spam folder.
And last week Gmail ended up in a couple of blacklists. Within a couple of years we will not be able to use email anymore due to the heavy blacklisting.

That you pay for your account does not guarantee that it wil not be blacklisted

The fact that they did respond after a few weeks however shows that they got the mail.

You are right. Apart from that, I dare say my provider is a reliable one. It has never given me any trouble in the past 13 years.
