Skype has just released Skype for PocketPC (http://www.skype.com/download_pda.html) v1.0, a free software to let PocketPC users make free unlimited Skype calls over any Wi-Fi network. Minimum requirements are PocketPC 2003 OS, obviously WiFi, and a 400 MHz processor.

Skype for PocketPC and regular Skype accounts are linked, so you can be logged on both devices at the same time and receive on both a ring if someone calls you.

As for the headset, Skype recommends Plantronics (http://www.plantronics.com) headsets for optimal quality.

I'm *very* curious to see how this works. Over at Aximsite (www.aximsite.com) they've been talking about it some and most mentions are positive. Once I get running I'll try it and let you know...

That is the coolest thing I've heard all day (so far). And I've heard some pretty cool crap today (so far).

:D

Btw, if anyone's curious, I wrote a piece called VoIP 101 (http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1842) a while back which might help explain why this is so cool.

I like your article Sunshine. Nice summary.

Here's a good quick NYTimes article on Skype (http://www.nytimes.com/2004/09/05/business/yourmoney/05tech.html?ex=1252036800&en=8fa50cce785ea6c5&ei=5090&partner=rssuserland) from last week.

FYI, engadget is reporting some problems (buzzing instead of voice) with Skype on two PPC product lines... Ipaq and Axim

Supposed to be fixed next week.
