I am curious... now that we seem to have a reliable way (http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?p=154197#post154197) to reflash the 505 (thanks to igorsk), wouldn't it be trivial to write hacks similar to how it has been done (http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?p=154197#post154197) for the 500?

It's "reliable" as long as you use pre-tested images. If you b0rk the xml when making a new hack on your own, you won't have a way to restore the firmware without going via the serial console.
