View Full Version : M-Edge's Kindle Cover
I just got the M-Edge cover for the Kindle. I think it has a nicer feel than the cover it comes with. For the most part I didn't have problems with my Kindle falling out, but there is no chance it will fall out of the M-Edge cover! The corner over the right edge is elastisized for access to the on/off switches.
I changed the closed cover picture--in the previously posted picture, the color was off. This picture is closer to the actual color.
vagelis 03-07-2008, 04:53 AM I too have received the M-Edge Kindle cover
I share the same sentiments
Very well executed indeed :2thumbsup
TallMomof2 03-07-2008, 12:05 PM Mine's red!
drgnbear 03-07-2008, 03:44 PM I purchased the red one as well and I have to say it is VERY nice. Why couldn't amazon do this?
tsgreer 03-07-2008, 03:49 PM Wow, I like this! How long does shipping usually take? I checked the site and couldn't find an estimate.
Alisa 03-07-2008, 05:00 PM So how does this compare to the stock case as far as weight is concerned? I find at home I prefer to read without the case unless I need a book light. It's so much lighter. Not that the case makes it heavy but without it the Kindle just feels like I'm holding nothing.

Good question that has puzzled me from the time I got mine. They did so much that was right, all I can think is that they sloughed this off to some demented, retarded, Luddite hermit in the wilds of Inner Mongolia, giving him a piece of leather, some glue, a knife and told him "make a cover."
europas_ice 03-07-2008, 08:07 PM I dunno, I don't like the look of that tab to hold the cover down. It looks like it would get caught on stuff when trying to slip it into a bag.
TallMomof2 03-08-2008, 03:15 PM The tab slips snugly inside a slot and I haven't had it catch on anything when I slip it in and out of my bag.

Does it have a magnet or something that holds it into place? And does it ever get in your way while you're reading or pressing the "next page" button on the right? If you bend the cover all the way around to the back, is there a way to secure it there? Could I be any more full of questions?

I had ALL of those questions as well.
vagelis 03-09-2008, 01:02 PM Does it have a magnet or something that holds it into place? And does it ever get in your way while you're reading or pressing the "next page" button on the right? No Magnets to hold something into place.
The straps hold from all four corners securely.
No it does not get in the way when you press the next page.
When you flip the front cover back all the way, the little strap 'tongue' can be reinserted to the groove of the front cover, thus being out of the way and holding the the front cover back securely.
Hope this helps.
TallMomof2 03-09-2008, 01:14 PM You can also bend the tab backwards so it fits between the back and front cover. The front cover doesn't need to be secured when folded back because it stays in place. the Amazon cover is stiff and if you don't use the elastic band the front cover has a tendency to spring partially back.
The cover is very nice and holds the Kindle extremely well.
drgnbear 03-10-2008, 04:02 PM I've had a few MINOR issues with it tying up the Prev button but I think that's more in the nature of slightly stiff leather beyond that it hasn't interefered at all. It is a really nice soft buttery leather and it seems lighter to me than the one that came with the Kindle definately easier to fold back. It's not easy to get in and out of the case, but it is very securely in the case unlike the shipped case. If you are someone who prefers to read without a cover you may be frustrated getting it in and out. It works perfectly for me as I usually read in the case.
I was worried about the tab before I ordered it but actually it's not bad, just takes a bit of getting used to. No magnets, it just holds it securely on three corners and loosely with an elastic strap on the fourth so you can access the buttons on the back which is easy to do since the cover is so soft.
Basically THIS is what should have shipped from Amazon. Although with the elastic to hold it shut instead of the tab.

Have her look at the red one, pictured here in another thread:
http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showpost.php?p=156753&postcount=36
It's closer to a pink than you might think, according to that picture at least.
TallMomof2 03-11-2008, 09:36 AM It's definitely RED but it's definitely better than brown or black, IMO.
badgoodDeb 03-12-2008, 03:55 PM Yeah, mine just arrived. Most Definitely it's red, not pink. But I like it!
janiebegood 03-13-2008, 09:58 AM Mine arrived yesterday, too! I'd say it's a light red, more red than pink.
I like it a lot -- it's more padded and the Kindle fits much more securely in it than in the Amazon standard cover. And I can bend the front cover around and stick the doohickey in the thingey, so YAY!
I love having a place to put a business card in case I accidentally leave it somewhere -- would even like it if they put a clear vinyl pocket in for that express purpose -- and a place to store the SD card when not in use.
I give it a big thumbs up!
tsgreer 03-13-2008, 01:22 PM I got mine in simple black--very fast shipping by the way. Holds the Kindle very secure. I'm very happy with it.
Devon 03-13-2008, 02:06 PM I have a red one I really like it, but I would prefer one in leather. I emailed to find out if this will be an option and it is! Here is the reply I received:
Please pardon our delay in responding to your question. We have actually moved up our release of a genuine leather jacket line for the Amazon Kindle and expect to begin shipping this line within three weeks. The initial release will include genuine leather in black, brown, and red.
Thanks for your interest in our products and your business! If you have any additional questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact us via email or phone at 877.MEDGE.43
Strether 03-13-2008, 02:37 PM I got mine in brown, and the picture at the head of this thread doesn't do the color of the case justice. It's a much darker, richer brown.
I like how it changes the profile of the Kindle. With the cover closed, it no longer reminds you of the cheap 3-ring binders we used to use in school.
The workmanship is outstanding, I thought. No loose threads in the stiching anywhere. And fronting the elastic corner with the same material that's on the other corners was a nice touch--they didn't just leave it plain elastic.
And fast service. I ordered it last Friday, it shipped from Maryland last Friday, and I got it in California on Tuesday.
A really nice product.
Jim
Alisa 03-13-2008, 06:58 PM I just received my new cover in brown and it really is rather dark. I've tried to get some good pictures of the color. All in all, it's nice and quite soft in the hand but probably not as protective as the stock case. It's also slightly lighter. I weighed them and the stock case was 5.8 oz while this one is 4.9 oz. Not a big difference but enough that I feel it a little.

I had that feeling about the protective part as well. I wonder if this padding on the new case is as helpful as the stiff default case? I still like the M-Edge case better though. :)
I have a red one I really like it, but I would prefer one in leather. I emailed to find out if this will be an option and it is! Here is the reply I received:
.....
Last update I read (deep in the bowels of the Amazon forums somewhere) said mid-April for leather.
I want a RED cover. In leather.
Or a brown leather embossed/tooled "cowboy" cover.
Although I'd also take fuschia or lime green. Because I'm clearly a woman of taste.
TallMomof2 03-30-2008, 08:40 PM The red faux leather cover feels very leatherlike to me. I was pleasantly surprised.
eBookNerd 03-30-2008, 10:15 PM I love the M-edge cover, but I wish the closure was magnetic instead of just a flap -like some of the journals you can buy in bookstores. I wonder if there's a reason the Kindle covers don't have magnetic closures? The Sony reader has a cover with a magnetic closure....

The kindle is plastic. Magnets are not attracted to plastic.
BOb
eBookNerd 03-31-2008, 12:15 PM Hi Bob,
I know the Kindle is plastic. I was suggesting a magnetic clasp on the cover itself.
And today M-edge released the leather Kindle holder, for $55 a pop. In black, brown and red, same as the "pleather" cover. I can't see any real difference between the two (at least not on my small laptop screen) so now we have to wait for someone to get and gush (or not).
Bought the red leather M-edge cover, and it came in the mail day before yesterday. I like the way it holds the Kindle more securely than the original cover. I miss the elastic band from the Kindle cover, though, enough that I'm going to go to a fabric/dry goods store and buy a bit of the elastic to make one for the new cover, so that I can fold the front cover back and wedge my hand in between front and back cover to hold the Kindle.
The fit and finish is very good, the color is a medium bright red, marbelized, with a gloss (maybe a little TOO glossy for me) and the interior is a paler red (definitely red, not pink). The little pockets look handy, although they are awfully thin - I won't be able to put anything of much thickness in there, but I like the ability to but a couple of index cards and a pencil in there for note-taking.
Also - the dogs find this new leather cover VERY interesting. The original Kindle cover, while leather, didn't interest them at all. I'm pretty sure this is not a good thing.
brent_strong 04-29-2008, 12:46 AM Ordered a real leather one based on the reviews here. M-edge should be thankful for the buzz generated here. :)
SanAntone 05-22-2008, 07:11 PM Just got a black one. I had kept on hesitating because the pictures didn't look all that good. I have to tell you...the quality of the leather is outstanding. This cover changes the way the Kindle feels while you hold it. I wish I had ordered this months ago.
lkrause 05-22-2008, 08:56 PM Hi,
I received my Kindle for Mother's Day and immediately ordered this case in red. It is wonderful. It really protects the Kindle plus it is very good looking as well. The leather also smells divine. I have no trouble with the tab and I slide it into a pocket in my purse every day and pull it out on the bus ride to and from work.
honeybunny 05-22-2008, 10:43 PM How red is the red? I couldn't really tell from the picture.
lkrause 05-23-2008, 08:06 AM It's not a bright candy apple red but a really classy professional looking red.
honeybunny 05-23-2008, 08:45 AM Thanks. I'm thinking of getting it more more 'formal' settings.
Rocketime 05-25-2008, 11:12 AM Just got a black one. I had kept on hesitating because the pictures didn't look all that good. I have to tell you...the quality of the leather is outstanding. This cover changes the way the Kindle feels while you hold it. I wish I had ordered this months ago.
Thanks for your thoughts and input. I just ordered the black one. I was torn between the black and the brown.
honeybunny 05-25-2008, 11:18 AM I just noticed there is a 'genuine leather' one and an apparently non-leather one, and the price difference is $15. Just FYI.
mdibella 05-25-2008, 12:04 PM I use one of these...when I am reading, I fold the cover completely back and tuck the tab into the same slot provided to keep the cover closed when the Kindle is not in use. It works great!
honeybunny 05-26-2008, 02:43 PM I just picked up the leather one. As much as I like FrankN's handmade case, I'd like one with a little more polish for some settings.
Rocketime 05-27-2008, 11:58 AM Bummer. Just got an email from M-edge that my Black cover is backordered until June 5th.
I guess I should be happy I only have to wait a few days instead of weeks.
CopperTrail 06-14-2008, 12:38 AM My Brown Executive Leather case arrived yesterday. You won't be disappointed, its miles above the cover that ships with the Kindle.
CopperTrail 06-22-2008, 03:49 PM Just an FYI to Medge cover owners. Yesterday I picked up a jar of Leather Lube (http://www.sofsole.com/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=4&g=m&n=1&DetailID=81). Applied it to the Kindle today and has a much better look and feel to it, not to mention the protection. I'm sure any leather protectant/conditioner would do. Also, no discoloration of the leather with this product.
daffy4u 06-26-2008, 08:10 PM The elastic on my original Kindle cover has started to roll and drive me crazy, so I broke down and purchased the M-Edge Executive cover in Saddle Brown Leather.
It's very pretty but I'm having a hard time folding it back into a comfortable reading position. Does it take a while to break in?
mdibella 06-27-2008, 10:02 AM Mine was comfortable immediately. I fold the cover completely around behind the Kindle and tuck the tab into the same hole you use to keep the cover closed.
scotty1024 06-29-2008, 01:10 AM I'm having a hard time folding it back into a comfortable reading position. Does it take a while to break in?
Applying a good quality leather conditioning product will help it be supple much more rapidly.
daffy4u 06-29-2008, 01:26 AM Thanks you both for your input and suggestions. I finally used the super strength in my fingers to bend it to my will. For some reason it wanted to fold back at an angle, so I forced the spine to crease down the center and after a day in that position, it's behaving itself.
BTW, I received the clear Vizu skin today and it fits on my Kindle inside the M-Edge cover. Now I have the option to the stand on the Vizu when I'm out at lunch.

Hmm I looked at the Vizu skin and it made me think of my Kindle being in a ski mask. How well does the clear one disappear for you?
daffy4u 06-29-2008, 03:35 PM Here's a pic.
scotty1024 06-29-2008, 04:43 PM Oh, now that is clear! You might want to post that nice picture to Amazon to help others as well. To me the picture Amazon has of the black skin makes the Kindle look like a bank robber.
Thank you for sharing.
daffy4u 06-29-2008, 04:49 PM Thanks for the suggestion. Done (http://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-media/product-gallery/B0019DH1XG/ref=cm_ciu_pdp_images_all).
absantos 07-04-2008, 06:17 PM I love the M-edge cover, but I wish the closure was magnetic instead of just a flap -like some of the journals you can buy in bookstores. I wonder if there's a reason the Kindle covers don't have magnetic closures? The Sony reader has a cover with a magnetic closure....
I checked with Kindle and asked about the magnets because I know magnets effect the screens on some cell phones, tv, etc. They said that magnets will effect the screen.
igorsk 07-04-2008, 08:05 PM Sony Reader's screen doesn't have any problems with magnets.
tlrowley 07-04-2008, 08:35 PM I see that M-edge is releasing the Leisure Jacket (http://www.buymedge.com/p_KindleLs.html) for the Kindle. The say that it's "not waterproof", but show a woman floating in the pool and reading. That's exactly what I'd like to so, so I'm assuming the case is at least water resistant?
I've ordered one, it's supposed to be shipping July 16.
HaggisMacJedi 07-05-2008, 09:43 AM Here are some quotes from M-Edge's website about this cover:
"This stylish, padded case features a read-through, clear, vinyl cover which helps provide protection against moisture, dirt, dust and sand."
So...it protects against MOISTURE, but I wouldn't guess complete wetness. Let's read on...
"Clear vinyl cover with OPENING for the Kindle's scroll wheel."
Well, with an opening it's definitely not going to be waterPROOF, but it would still protect against many splashes I would think. But this next quote is where the rubber meets the road:
"Note: This case is not waterproof."
Well, there ya go. It's not waterproof.
I'm interested in this case though. Let us know how you like it when it gets here.
desertgrandma 07-10-2008, 01:47 AM I finally broke down and got an M-Edge kindle cover in red. Oh my goodness. The smell of leather alone is wonderful. The feel of it in my hands is sensual. Your Kindle porn is making me want to buy one. I'm going on a road trip next week and perhaps should order one for the occasion. (I don't think I would opt for red though.)

desertgrandma 07-10-2008, 02:11 PM All kidding aside, the m-edge is really an improvement on the orginial. It comes in lots of colors, and Amazon has them in stock. I noticed the M-edge site is on vacation and won't be shipping until the 18th.
Until Rickymaveety gets hers going, these are great!

So, you got the $60 one? Executive Leather? Any pics of it on your Kindle? Do you leave it on while you read, or does it get in the way?
I currently use my kindle sans cover and wouldn't want it to be much thicker.
BOb
EDIT: Even on Amazon the leather ones all show as backordered, will ship July 16th.
desertgrandma 07-10-2008, 02:21 PM Wow, I must have just squeaked by.
I"ll get pics and send. I was a little concerned because I thought the leather might be heavier and bulkier, but I was really pleasantly surprised, It isn't. The little loop on the upper right hand corner is easily flipped off to access the back buttons, then you just flip it back. I always turn mine off when done...I don't trust the 'sleep' feature to not drain my battery, altho recharging is quickl
The front cover bends around easily, giving a better edge to hold the kindle with. There are little slots on the inside cover, which could hold business cards, or slips of paper, and a pen holder which doesn't get in the way of the kindle.
Look for pics.
daffy4u 07-10-2008, 02:28 PM BOb, the picture I have a few pics above is my Kindle inside the Vizu skin, inside the Leather Saddle Brown Executive M-Edge cover.
I can post more pics if you want to see something in particular.
desertgrandma 07-10-2008, 02:34 PM Well, I WAS taking pictures but my batteries died. So until they recharge, will have to wait.
Daffy, I was going to take pics especially of the inside cover and the way it folds back with the little strap tucked inside so as not to be in the way.....
daffy4u 07-10-2008, 02:35 PM I'll see what I can whip up.

You do have to make sure the little kickstand in the back is braced well or it will collapse. If you can brace it against something solid, you're fine in a pinch.
At home I use a stand from Octo. much more stable.

Thanks... looks like that and the InvisibleSHIELD http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield/amazon-kindle-cases-screen-protectors-covers-skins-shields.php together will keep the Kindle pretty well protected without adding much thickness or bulk.
But, those two together come out to almost the price of the m-edge leather case.

You still have the option of using the original cover if you feel the need for a little extra protection from time to time (maybe with a bit of velcro on the back of the skin).

It causes some discoloration at first where the edges of the pleather rub on the case. Thsi wipes away with a little tissue and pressure. It eventually stops.

Actually, I just canceled the order. I heard bout the 'user account control' option. I"'m just going to look a little harder for an XP os. I heard you could still get it pre-installed on some Dell business laptops...If something happens and they won't cancel the order, at least you give me hope its not a total loss....anyone else have experience with Vista? Good? Bad?? Ugly? My Son-in-law is trying to get me to go Linux.....ubuntu or something like that.

You can take discussions out to the Lobby, too, but they tend to get overly violent.:p

Slow_hand 07-31-2008, 06:18 PM Well, based on the reviews here, I ordered an M-Edge cover in leather. And boy am I disappointed. It really looks to me like it is made of bonded leather. I can smell the adhesive used to glue to little leather particles together and it just doesn't feel like fine leather. You can tell the way it is stitched that they are trying to hide the edge so you can't tell it's bonded. Oh well, it is better than the original cover and maybe M-Edge will come out with something like this:
http://day-planner.daytimer.com/content/images/shop/prod_images/dir4/w45014f.jpg
Free-Form Distressed Leather Binder from DayTimer (it's a Daily planner cover for $82.99). Now that's real leather.

Wow. Thats the first bad review I've read. I love mine, its in red, (of course) and all I smell is the leather....I also have to say it feels wonderful too! If you bought yours from Amazon, they have a great return policy. For that much money, I wouldn't keep it if I didn't love it! :)
Slow_hand 07-31-2008, 06:52 PM Maybe I got a non-leather one by mistake - After looking at the stamp impression on the back which looks suspiciously like pleather.
I have sent M-Edge an email requesting instructions on the easiest way to tell the difference.
Slowhand
honeybunny 07-31-2008, 10:41 PM Yeah I'm thinking you got the pleather one. The leather one is nice, and gets more supple as it gets used, just like I expect real leather to. Also no scuffing.
Just got my M-edge cover 2 days ago and really love it. It's so nice and crisp and when you fold it back it provides a much better grip than the original Kindle cover. Thanks all for your recommendations. (And the red is really classy)
cheers
Slow_hand 08-06-2008, 06:32 PM Well, I got a reply back from M-edge which I appreciated. They stated that the particular color I got only comes in the genuine leather. They said I could return it or exchange it for another cover. Though I am disappointed in the obviously bonded leather, it is far superior to the stock cover and I am going to keep it. If anyone comes out with a nice full grain leather cover, I'll get that.
gpease 08-07-2008, 07:10 PM Just got the M-Edge jacket. Very nice. Soft and helps with the unwanted clicks. Downside is the buttons on back and connectors on bottom can't be accessed without unzipping it. But really nice. I like it.

Are you talking about the leisure case that you can read through? I'm curious about it, I ordered one with my Kindle, but haven't received them yet. I thought it would be great for the beach and the gym.

Well, as I said, I don't know that if you held it under water it would be completely waterproof. But the zipper is tight, the plastic cover is nicely sewn and everything looks nice and neat. I think you will enjoy it.
But I find I will have to drill a little hole in the bottom under the zipper to plug in my headset while the device is zipped in. I use the Kindle for listening to Audible books with headsets and there is no way to keep the device in the case while plugged in. Same for recharging but that is done rarely so taking it out isn't too awful.
Hope you enjoy it.

shima 08-30-2008, 01:19 AM I just got my M-Edge cover earlier this week, the red leather one, and I love it. It holds my Kindle wayyyyy better than the case it came with, plus I just love the leather feel and higher quality feel from the padding.
voracious71 08-30-2008, 02:57 AM Just ordered the genuine leather one in red..they took $10 off the price, so I paid about $44 for it. I got my Kindle a little cheaper off Ebay(brand new though) so I was willing to pay for a decent case.
shima 09-05-2008, 09:12 AM Yeah Amazon has been doing 10 dollars off on them lately. Totally worth it.
GatorDeb 09-17-2008, 01:43 AM There's been mention here and on Amazon that the padding in front of the part that goes over the screen is not as good on the M-Edge as on the original case... updated comments?
GatorDeb 09-22-2008, 03:20 AM Anyone?

I think that he padding is just as good on my m-Edge. But I hated the original so much that I may just be giving my replacement the edge out of spite.
Alisa 09-22-2008, 02:09 PM The padding is decent but the case isn't as rigid as the stock case. It seems likely to me that the stock case would provide better protection for the screen.
phoenixfire1965 10-10-2008, 02:53 PM I had ordered the M-Edge Genuine leather executive cover in brown and I hated it. I liked the feel but the cover was just not very well fit in my opinion. It held the Kindle nicely but the cover was floppy and moved alot when closed. Also when closed there was at least 3/4 of an inch of empty space where it folded thus allowing the cover to freely slide back and forth on the top of the Kindle. Additionally it did not smell or feel like fine leather. It was certainly bonded leather. It was the same as described by the earlier poster. Smelled like glue. I returned it in less than a week. Waiting for the Avantgarde case.
greg777 12-03-2008, 10:17 AM I got the m-edge and I'm very happy with it. I got it after reading some good reviews over at Kindle Cover (http://thekindlewarehouse.com/kindle-cover/).
honeybunny 12-03-2008, 10:28 AM Just wanted to say that my M-Edge cover (red leather) is still holding up amazingly well after months of daily use. I can't recommend it highly enough. I have had lots of compliments on it, and it looks very professional (and still smells divine).

I would certainly have to agree about the smell. Looks good too.
ChelseaMac 12-20-2008, 06:44 PM I just received my e-Luminator light from M-Edge. I LOVE it. It is an ideal solution to the Kindle not having a backlight. Anyway, I would recommend this product. It fits seamlessly with the jacket and when you don't need to use it, is lies flat.
Also, a great gift for other Kindlers you know :)
But I would definitely recommend the M-edge covers....my husband and I have been very happy with everything we have ordered.

So........are you using the light with the original m-edge cover? Do you slide it in the loop made for the pen?
I love my red M-edge, and wouldn't want to have to buy another, and I love the idea of a dedicated light.
Thanks!
Marie3 01-05-2009, 06:35 PM Hi All......I am anxiously awaiting delivery of my Kindle which should be soon. I'm getting antsy......I want it NOW. LOL
Boston 01-06-2009, 12:25 AM I think I read that the eLuminator light won't work with the old style M-Edge jacket :(
I still have my original cover and had no problems with it...but I am very close to buying the new M-Edge and light now that the reviews seem to be favorable. I've wanted an integrated light from the beginning.

You are correct. I contacted M-Edge and they confirmed that the old style does not have the room necessary.
I"m also just about to buy the new style and light, just can't decide on the color! :)

Patricia 01-10-2009, 10:47 AM Libby Cone: this thread is about the M-Edge cover.
Your link is to a rather basic crocheted case on ebay. Someone has already reported the link as spam. I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt this time, because the link is peripherally relevant - just. But usually we ban spammers.
Libby Cone 01-11-2009, 11:13 AM I'm sorry! I had no idea it was considered spam!:smack:

in this thread, it's maybe more accurate to say it's a bit off topic. but you could start a new thread in the lounge to share knitting and crocheting tips to make your own covers. i know there are a lot of crafty people on this forum, they might have some good ideas too.
roa71@yahoo.com 01-11-2009, 09:41 PM i got the executive case for Christmas. initial impressions is that it is a nicer case than the default from amazon. seems to hold the device a little better. but (and i know this sounds trivial) it takes another second or two to get setup to read. have to pull the tab out and hook into the flip side. so, i was on the fence with the case.
however, i just got the eluminator a couple days ago and that makes a big difference. fits perfectly in the case. i love not having to hunt for my booklight to read in low light areas. the light really completes the case.
i would highly recommend.
rick..
pshrynk 01-12-2009, 11:18 AM Someone thought that was spam?
Kinda tacky, maybe.
By that measure, ninety percent of my posts would be spam.
Just sayin'.
Alisa 01-12-2009, 03:54 PM Maybe they assumed Libby was the seller.
MonaLS 01-13-2009, 12:31 AM I've seen the same exact post in 4 different Kindle forums and in threads where it really didn't seem to belong. It felt like spam. Sorry that I seemed to have jumped the gun.
Perhaps you could start a thread about these and why you like them so much. I do like handmade things, especially crocheted, and would be interested to know more about them in the proper place.
Libby Cone 01-13-2009, 09:36 AM Maybe they assumed Libby was the seller.
Nah, I don't crochet, I knit. A lot. And I confess to trying to promote my book, but without being obnoxious about it, so I use knitting as a hook. But I AM a big fan of homemade stuff; I knit (and used to sew) a lot of my own clothes. I used to roast my own coffee beans (until I almost burned the house down). My husband has started making his own apple butter.
Someone beat me to the punch on starting a thread on handcrafted Kindle covers, so I'm posting there.
I'm anxiously awating an email from a publisher today; I don't know if they will want the digital rights, so you may still be stuck with me!:o

i understand feeling a bit uncomfortable about trying to promote your book, but i humbly suggest that since this is a forum about reading, full of people who love reading and books of all sorts, a post about your new book would probably be welcomed and get you quite a lot of feedback (if that's what you're looking for) and possibly new readers. and, if you make a new thread to tell people you wrote a book, everyone will understand your purpose and you don't risk being misinterpreted as spam (as long as you're not spammy about it, ie if you make a new thread for the topic and only post it once).
i think perhaps the misunderstanding here came from the fact that people don't necessarily see the connexion between knitting and your book (and since it's apparently not a book about knitting, that makes sense), and so your purpose was not clear, and in addition the knitting posts were not necessarily relevant to the topic, leading to more confusion.
if you want to promote your book, i think it would be more effective to be straightforward about it and talk about your book, not knitting.
Boston 01-13-2009, 09:22 PM Ok..my new m-edge cover came today. Its nicely made but my first impression is that I like the original cover better. (Admittedly, its probably because I was so used to the old cover).
I should mention that I never had a problem with my the original cover (my Kindle was quite secure with the elastic slipped over the bottom right and without velcro). Never saw the need in spending a lot of money to replace it. Like the Kindle, the original was functional.
I read with my cover folded back and immediately I noticed how the wider spine on the M-Edge (to accomodate the light, I believe). Bending the cover back is awkward. Hopefully, it will soften with use over time. For the first time, I find myself accidentally clicking the page forward keys all the time. Hopefully, my hands just need to adjust.
Not sure what to do with the strap when reading (although I do like how it keeps the cover closed when not in use). I tried slipping it under the Kindle and ended up accidentally turning pages.
Its real leather, nicer looking and better constructed than my original cover. I like the corners...but for me, it doesn't enhance my reading experience with the Kindle.
I really don't like the added bulk This feels more like the daytimer I carry around to meetings at work. I love slipping my Kindle into my (already crowded) purse and the last thing I wanted was something larger in dimension. My original cover looks like a little sister next to the fancier M-Edge.
That being said, I haven't received my light yet which was the motivating factor for replacing my original cover. I've wanted a built in light from day one. So I'm keeping the M-Edge in hopes that the light is well designed and will make the inconvenience of switching to a larger cover worthwhile.

I felt the exact way you did before receiving the light. Having the light integrated in the case has been a real nice change. Not having to fumble for a night light is a huge plus. It's good even for low light situations. Thus, I use the light alot.
I agree, I like the compactness of the original. But, I think I will stick with the medge for now. I tuck the tab back into the flipped over cover.
Rick..
Boston 01-16-2009, 10:47 PM Thanks Rick..I am getting used to the cover but hopefully I'll love it once I get the light (which may be awhile given the wait for those is almost as long as buying a Kindle )

My light arrived today...and I am happy with it. My decision to go with the M-Edge for the light was the right one for me.
coolcat1901 02-02-2009, 12:16 AM I was looking at a few different ones on Amazon... can't make up my mind. The custom ones are also cool cause you can design your own thing.
Boston 02-02-2009, 10:11 PM As much as I love my light, I find I have to periodically "re-sit" the battery to get it to work. I wrote M-Edge and they are happy to exchange it, but I'm afraid there may be a design or mfg problem as it looks like I am not the only one having issues.

Sorry to hear you are having this problem. I had such high hopes for this product!
pshrynk 02-03-2009, 10:05 AM The light is not currently available. I wonder if they pulled it for "adjustments." Bummer, because I was going to get one. :(
xdalaw 02-04-2009, 08:45 PM I'm not sure if that is what's "really" going on, but I read a post in another board today--not sure but maybe Amazon's--that they simply sold out of the quantity they had ordered. More will be coming.
FWIW, I received mine and have been using it without a problem. It's not a perfect light by any means, but it does what I need it to do, and it is certainly the most convenient one if you have a M-Edge cover.
BeastMD 02-12-2009, 11:24 AM I like my M-Edge, but I don't like that it folds back "crooked".
