Hi guys.

Just got my 505 from the States (cause I cannot get it from Romania).

I had to buy this "toy" because my little girl - like all young kids today - doesn't care too much about reading, so I thought that I could interest her using this nice Sony gadget.

So now I have the toy, and I have the problem: I have books in RTF format written using 1252 codepage (used for romanian characters).

I' ve tried converting them using libprs500 or bookdesigner, but somehow I must be missing something, maybe I didn't read enough on this forum... I've even tried the unicode "patch" but I still cannot make the 505 to show romanian characters !

Can anyone please tell me what to do?

:help:

Thank You !

Hi, costash,
I've done with mine prs 505 and libris500 convertion for Cyrillic characters. No patching, no special fonts, nothing more than the PRS500 already had. The way I do it is when you convert the book to lrf format with libris500, in the section in the libris500 where you can choose Embedded fonts, you MUST choose the font that 'reads' or displays properly your text. Example: In libris500 in the "look and feel" menu there is section "Embedded fonts" "Serif; Sans-serif; Monospace" - when I go there and want to convert Cyrillic text, I choose Tms cyr as a font in all three sections. And that is all. That is how the things are working for me.
Good luck :)

In my experience (on prs500), the pageturn is much slower with embedded fonts. Not that it is a deal-breaker, just want to let other ppl know.

Yes, it is, but there is price for everything. :)

Thank you for your answers guys!

I finally made LRF from DOC and I see all the fonts correctly.
But the way to do this was a little bit complicated:
1. Open my DOC or RTF file using AbiWord Word Processor (a free editor from http://www.abisource.com/) and save the file as HTML, and the most important part is that the language in HTM file is "text/html;charset=UTF-8"... also I kept the formatting (bold/italic/underline) and styles (heading 1,2,3) but I only used one type of font.
2. Do some minor cleaning in the HTML - needed because I'm getting an unknown character (a little square) instead of "-".
3. Convert the HTML to LRF using libprs500 and specifying only one embedded font - the serif one - and I used "Arial Narrow".

So now I'm happy! Thank you for these wonderful programs !

I forgot !

It's not at all slower using the embedded font! You cannot tell the difference in using a file "home made" file or using a preloaded book, or one downloaded from Sony Store.
At the begining, maybe I've done something wrong, but when I first copied the LRF file to the SD card, when I tried to change the font from S to M and then to L, it seemed that the 505 is blocked, and needs about 2-5 minutes to index the file. After the "indexing" process, everything went normal, no delay.
I could accept that, but I tried again:
After a true shutdown, delete all from card, than I used the eBook Library software to upload the books to the reader, and now everything goes just fine.
Really no difference between original and home-made files!
Maybe it's because I only used embedded font?
I don't care anymore, it runs great!
:thanks:
