Yeah, that big one on top that says "Why not make your first post today by saying hello to our community in our Introductions forum?"... well fine. :D

I just recently ordered (and when I say recently, I mean like 10 minutes ago online from B&H) the PRS 505. This little device caught my eye when I stumbled on it while browsing Wikipedia. I read like crazy, but I hate lugging around a truckload of books everywhere I go, so this seemed like the sensible solution. I'm quite the tech geek (CS degree), so this is right up my ally.

I would like to thank the people who made this forum possible, because if it weren't here, I'm not sure would I have bought the thing or not... It's pretty expensive (+ shipping + local tax), and I was weighing the pros and cons... this site helped me to see all the pros :), like libprs500, Project Gutenberg and ManyBooks.net. I was worried about e-book availability and ease-of-conversion for PDF's and the sort, but this site helped clear my doubts. It also helped me find a store that ships to Europe and doesn't charge you an arm and a leg for shipping.

When I get the device, I'm sure I'll become a more active member instead of just a lurker. :)

Welcome. We like non-geeks as well, but we're quite "geek friendly" here. Glad to have you. As you mentioned, there's a wealth of resources. Don't forget the e-book downloads available here also, with some nice formatting!

And great to hear that the reminder notice got your attention. We generally do very very little "in your face" stuff here, but I'm glad that one worked! ;)

Hi valloric and welcome to the Forum. I think you'll really like the 505. I bought mine back in January and am very pleased with it. Have already read several books and like it a lot. Like you, I didn't like hauling a stack of books around. In fact, I bought a 2 gig memory stick at Staples (for $36) and have increased my 505 capacity to library size.

Be sure and let us know how you like your Reader when you get it.
