Traduccion: Es posible instalar Mobipocket support en el Sony Reader 505?
Saludos desde Espaa!
shousa 02-07-2008, 08:57 PM No, the DRM cannot be broken, I believe.
JSWolf 02-07-2008, 09:12 PM Actually, the DRM can be broken as long as one of the PIDs is known.
shousa 02-07-2008, 09:24 PM Really? Can it be done easily?
kovidgoyal 02-07-2008, 09:26 PM ~200 lines of code :)
shousa 02-07-2008, 09:47 PM For the Sony reader (not Kindle in which case the DRM is still there but bypassed?) I was unaware the DRM had been "broken" allowing you to generate a .lrf for it?
kovidgoyal 02-07-2008, 10:10 PM Yeah it has been
flashgordonv 02-07-2008, 11:46 PM Well I own a couple of hundred Mobipocket titles which I have acquired over the years to read on my various PDAs. Exactly how can I get to read them on the 505 please?
kovidgoyal 02-08-2008, 12:12 AM sorry mobileread has an anti-anti-DRM policy
Lector 02-08-2008, 06:32 AM ?.... But.. DRM It can be broken.. it's possible?
I'm sure that one day Mobipokect and others programs could be install in the PRS 505. It's Sony.. like PSP.. like Playstation.. ALL Hacking.
AnemicOak 02-08-2008, 09:06 AM ?.... But.. DRM It can be broken.. it's possible?
It can and has been broken. There was a program out there, but it was pulled quickly after lawyers got involved. You won't find it anywhere, believe me I've tried.
igorsk 02-09-2008, 09:50 PM Actually, Sony's DRM hasn't been broken (not that it's impossible...), but you can generate LRF files which do not have DRM.
pwalker8 02-10-2008, 10:24 AM Do you mean that you can generate a non DRM LRF file from a Sony DRM (i.e. LRX) file, or just that you can use LRF files?
igorsk 02-10-2008, 01:05 PM The latter.
pwalker8 02-10-2008, 02:01 PM Ah. It would be nice if someone breaks Sony's DRM at some point. I would like the ability to convert the sony drm books that I have purchased to another format if Sony drops support at some point (either drops the product line or converts to a more standard format). I suspect it's just a case of getting someone with the right skill set interested in the project.

I think if Sony ever drops support you'll see the DRM cracked right away.
igorsk 02-10-2008, 02:54 PM If Sony drops the support I'll promise to look into it :)
pwalker8 02-10-2008, 03:45 PM Thanks, that would be appreciated.

Sorry to spoil the party this program does it:

and it works.

People aren't talking about LRF files - that's a non-DRM format; what people are discussing is the DRM-enhanced LRX file format.
The ABC converter is pretty bad; I don't know if you've actually tried it? You get plain text out of it - ie you lose all the formatting.

It works very very very poorly. I did email the author not long after it came out and he said it would soon support a full conversion and it's never happened.
JSWolf 02-13-2008, 05:44 AM _"There is no such thing as a freak occurrence, Senior Technician," Tonais responded. "At least, not when it comes to a magnificent system such as ours. There are fail-safes, backup systems. Why are they not engaged?"
"They have been, Director, and in some cases they are working normally."
H"In some cases?" he repeated slowly.
t"Whatever is affecting our systems is affecting them too."
"But those are independent arrangements, Senior Technician. You cannot tell me this is a freak occurrence too?"
_"I really don't know what to tell you, sir," Shira replied, wincing as she brought her shoulders up in a shrug. She didn't like appearing so incompetent, especially in front of someone like Tonais, but the answers were eluding her.
_"Excuse me, Director," the assistant squeaked, not looking up from his notepad. He had a deep nasal tonality to his voice. "But we're getting a report from the resort. There are three rock climbers trapped on the side of the bluff."
Shira winced again. She was hoping to deal with this situation on her own.
The above is a sample of the conversion ABC Sony Converter did. Did a wonderful job of messing up the text.
