Mobi file changed to mob

Has anyone had a problem of burning .mobi files that are changed to .mob files that can't be read by the Kindle? It is changed in the burn process. I can save from drive to drive with no problems but to burned they are changed.

You're probably choosing the wrong file system on the burning sofware, that limited file names to the old 8.3 (eight character file name, three character extension) format from DOS.

I thought that too but that's not it. Some files remain as a mobi and others change to mob. Tried another computer and it does the same.

Damn! Organized crime is muscling into everything.

Have you tried different burning software? There are a bunch of free programs available (Check somewhere like download.com). What happens if you burn a folder containing mobi files instead of selecting the files themselves, or vice versa?

If nothing else works, you could rename the files back to mobi when you need to retrieve them from the disc. If there are lots of them, you could use a batch file.

Zip the files up first with Winzip or whatever, then burn the zip file. Nothing inside the zip file should be changed by the burning process.
