I live in Maryland, and the state library offers current fiction titles available for download. There is a 3 week check out period. I can download books from there to my computer just fine, but they won't transfer to my Sony PRS 505 reader. Apparently it is the DRM that is the reason. Is there any solution to this??? I have never wanted to buy books, because the public library lets me read them for free!!!

Library e-books are most ofter secure (encrypted) PDFs, and sometimes secure MobiPocket. Secure MobiPocket library books can be read on Kindle, Cybook and iLiad, but not on Sony e-book readers. Secure PDFs can't be read on any E-Ink device, but there is some hope that Adobe Digital Editions will be available eventually on the Sony PRS-505 and might (or might not) allow reading of these files.

Do you have Linux OS?
If so, this is how I converted a DRM protected PDF file to a plain PDF file.

Sorry, nike984, I had to remove your detailed instructions for removing DRM.

Nothing personal, and I appreciate your wanting to be helpful, but our forum guidelines don't allow such detailed discussions. :nice:

The Cybook does NOT let you read library books on them at this time. I have contacted Bookeen about this and received word back from them that they are aware of the problem and plan to address it in its next firmware update.

I am able to read library books (either in Adobe or Mobipocket format) on my Pocket PC, although I really do not enjoy reading Adobe books and I look forward to reading Mobipicket library books on my Cybook - hopefully soon.

Nonetheless, I love, love, love being able to check ebooks out of the library. It doesn't cost me anything and I don't have to worry with returning the books (they time out after 21 days and I am no longer able to open them).
