View Full Version : MobileRead Tagline Contest: Let's vote!
Alexander Turcic 01-21-2008, 02:57 PM You sent us your tagline entries (http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17156), we narrowed 'em down, now its your turn to take care of biz. Go and vote for your favorite MobileRead taglines; then cross your fingers for the lucky person who's gonna walk away with $50 more in his or her pockets.
And to further exercise your democratic right to select a winner in our contests, make sure you don't forget to vote for the best MobileRead logo (http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19428) (also includes details about the voting process)!
CommanderROR 01-21-2008, 04:04 PM Well, I must admit that I just love some of these slogans...I voted for several, but I'd say my favourites are
Mobileread: Because Libraries are heavy!
and
Mobileread: Because you can take it with you.
Somehow the second one reminds me of bowerbird:
Because you _can_ take it with you... :D
EDIT: why can I still vote? I just placed my vote...
vivaldirules 01-21-2008, 05:13 PM I like them all. And I like someone's suggestion that the tagline change regularly, rotating through several of these, if possible. Both these and the logo submissions are cool! :)
"why can I still vote? I just placed my vote..."
Because we value your opinion so much, we're letting you vote as many times as you want, CommanderROR! ;)
CommanderROR 01-21-2008, 05:29 PM oooooh...that gave me a nice and warm, cosy feeling... :D
Big B 01-21-2008, 06:47 PM WOW!! What a talented group we have. Loved the logos and taglines....wonderful job everyone.
RWood 01-21-2008, 10:14 PM My first thought was to vote for all of them but that wouldn't do any good. Like a donkey between bales of hay there are just too many good ones. Thankfully we don't have to pick just one.
astra 01-22-2008, 04:01 AM I voted for 5 and 1...for fun :)
MobileRead: A Global Community - Dedicated to the eBook Revolution!
MobileRead: A Library in your Hand
MobileRead: Because literature is too important to leave on the shelf.
MobileRead: Future of Reading
MobileRead: Promoting Literacy in The Digital Age.
For fun:
MobileRead: Because a day without DRM discussion is a day without sunshine!
Two in bold are the best though.
nekokami 01-22-2008, 09:02 AM I picked my favorite 5. It was tough! Only one of the ones I picked turned out to be in the running for top choice, but that's ok. :)
slayda 01-22-2008, 09:25 AM I hate to be negative since these are all very good.
But in an age where "No one reads." some of these are just tooooooo looooong!

So, vote for the short ones! :)
slayda 01-22-2008, 10:29 AM So, vote for the short ones! :)
Done!
jharker 01-22-2008, 12:20 PM Umm... Am I the only one to notice this? This poll summary says "Voters: 99", but when I add up the column I get 306 votes. The percentages add up to 309.06%. That can't be right.
There's a similar problem in the logo contest: It says "Voters: 123" when I count 263 votes, for a grand total of 213.83%.
Is the poll software messed up, or what?
Is the poll software messed up, or what?
No, it's a multi-vote poll.
NatCh 01-22-2008, 01:18 PM No, it's a multi-vote poll.Meaning that people can vote for more than one item.
The percentages on this sort of poll are largely worthless, since they don't add up, but the straight out number of votes is what we're looking at, so it's fine for that end. :nice:
yvanleterrible 01-22-2008, 01:44 PM So, vote for the short ones! :)
I voted for yours Neko. "Reading meets the future"
jharker 01-22-2008, 02:12 PM Doh! I didn't realize I could vote for more than one! Now it's too late... Just call me Mr. Unobservant. :smack:
astra 01-23-2008, 06:30 AM Ehm. I hope MobileRead: Read more, carry less will not win. I really dislike it :(
Jaapjan 01-23-2008, 06:33 AM Ehm. I hope MobileRead: Read more, carry less will not win. I really dislike it :(
Well, there are tags and logos both of which I hope they won't win. But it is just my own opinion.
JSWolf 01-23-2008, 02:52 PM Ehm. I hope MobileRead: Read more, carry less will not win. I really dislike it :(
I know what that is supposed to mean, but when you really think about it, it doesn't fit with the forum (IMHO)
grimo1re 01-24-2008, 04:55 AM A lot of these taglines are about ebooks/ebook reading. I thought they were supposed to be about this community, us? Am I missing something?
Jaapjan 01-24-2008, 06:43 AM "MobileRead: A lifestyle!"
NatCh 01-24-2008, 09:03 AM A lot of these taglines are about ebooks/ebook reading. I thought they were supposed to be about this community, us? Am I missing something? No, you're not really missing anything, grimo1re. I think the main factor operating here is that taglines, being so short, are necessarily limited things.
yvanleterrible 01-24-2008, 09:07 AM Give trees a break
grimo1re 01-25-2008, 09:38 AM No, you're not really missing anything, grimo1re. I think the main factor operating here is that taglines, being so short, are necessarily limited things.
True but it seems so silly "MobileRead: Read more, carry less" as a tagline for this community. "Ebooks: read more, carry less" sure, that works perfectly but to describe this community with that tagline is just....wrong :(
NatCh 01-25-2008, 10:37 AM I think the eventual plan is to try to set up several taglines to rotate, so we won't really be stuck with only a single one.
Besides, to be fair, how could so rich and diverse a community as MobileRead be described in any single line? :headscratch:
It's a Labor of Sisyphus: all up-hill and no end in sight.
yvanleterrible 01-25-2008, 11:32 AM I think the eventual plan is to try to set up several taglines to rotate, so we won't really be stuck with only a single one...
A logo with animation would allow that very nicely indeed!:laugh4:
JSWolf 02-04-2008, 08:52 AM I do think that MobileRead: Your world in the palm of your hand is a good catch all for the mobility of todays devices. You can ready, surf the net, talk on the phone, listen to music, watch video, IM, etc.. all from devices that you hold in your hand. The problem with most of the taglines in the voting is that they are too one sided just focusing on eBook reading. Being mobile is more then just about eBook reading on the go. It's also about carrying your life with you on the go and not having to worry about what you left at home and not being tied to your desktop computer.

I suppose, but is that what this site is about? I come here to learn about ebooks, not general mobility.
JSWolf 02-10-2008, 07:34 AM I suppose, but is that what this site is about? I come here to learn about ebooks, not general mobility.
I know the focus of the site has changed to mostly about eBooks and eBook readers, but do we really want a tagline that says we've changed and our focus is on eBooks so other mobile devices really have no place here? I don't for sure.
nekokami 02-12-2008, 12:24 AM No, I mean I came to learn about ebooks, not necessarily dedicated ebook readers. I only look here for information about mobile devices as it relates to reading. Isn't that the focus of the site? It's called MobileRead, after all.
