Wishing all of you a nice October with lots of autumn sunshine!

As requested, here is an outline of the purpose of this thread:

We point out free and bargain romances to each other, and occasionally recommend certain books that are/were free (or the opposite!).

Because Kindle freebies are easiest to find, the majority of the books listed are from Amazon, but freebies and bargains from other retailers and in other formats are more than welcome!

In case no retailer is specifically mentioned in a post, it is safe to assume it's for Amazon US.

Midnight Marriage (http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/24676) by Lucinda Brant

Set in the opulent world of the 18th century aristocracy and inspired by real events, Midnight Marriage is the standalone second book in the acclaimed Roxton family saga.

Two noble teenagers are married against their will. Drugged, Deb has no recollection of events. Disgraced, Julian is banished to the Continent. Nine years later, Deb falls in love with a wounded duelist, only to later discover it is her husband returned incognito! Can Deb forgive his cruel deception? Can their marriage survive beyond seduction? Meanwhile, Julian’s nemesis plots to destroy them both…

With witty prose and a deft palette of historical detail, Lucinda Brant delivers another lavish 18th century experience in her trademark style: Heart-wrenching drama with a happy ending.

Here's a freebie from Medallion Press with the most anti-romance cover I may have ever seen. :)

Blaze of Lightning, Roar of Thunder by Helen A. Rosburg Kindle (http://www.amazon.com/Blaze-Lightning-Roar-Thunder-ebook/dp/B004IK8TX) | B&N (http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/blaze-of-lightning-roar-of-thunder-helen-a-rosburg/1007263451?ean=9781932815641)

Louisa Rodriguez is in the desert gathering fuel when the scalp hunters come, massacre her family and all the people of her village, shoot her, and leave her for dead. After regaining consciousness, she buries the people she loves, strips off her bloody clothes, and walks naked into the mountains, where she sheds all traces of her former identity—except for the hatred she feels towards the scalpers. In the western wilderness, she meets horse wrangler Ring Crossman, who names her Blaze and falls in love with her, knowing that all her heart seeks is revenge. When their path crosses with the vengeful Bane, a destructive storm consumes them all.

A Man Called Blue (http://www.amazon.com/A-MAN-CALLED-BLUE-ebook/dp/B008D3BZNC) by E.C. Sheedy aka Carole Dean (previously published by Zebra in 1997)

Simone Doucet, a woman caught between her own ambition and loyalty to her boss, her ruthless mother, is determined to prove herself during a critical business trip to London. That means staying focused, efficient, and predatory.

But when a last minute staff change places a man called Blue at the hatch of her private jet moments before she's scheduled for takeoff, Simone's focus starts to blur.

Thomas Bludell opted out of the corporate game years ago. He knows how it plays, knows the rules—or lack of them—and doesn't want any part of it. This trip to London, and taking orders from a female corporate shark, is a favor to a friend nothing more.

Trouble is Blue isn't good at taking orders.

What Blue is good at is seduction.

Did anyone else renew their DANL membership? My credits only increased by 1 rather than 6. Wondering if I should email them or if I have to use the initial 6 up before the count displays correctly.

I got the Wedding in Apple Grove book for this month's pick.

Mine only shows 1 I believe they are only adding the credit at the beginning of each month now.

I still don't know what to get. Apple Grove looks good but her last series wasn't all that great.

I renewed mine since mid-September and it's also showing only 1 available credit, but then I've already used up all 6 credits from my initial membership run. If you have unused credits from before, you should probably send them an email to get it sorted out.

I don't know what to get either....:chinscratch:

My biggest problem with her first book Tyler was the lack of describing the characters movements. Like one minutes they were lying in bed and the next doing it up against the door but it never mentioned how they got there and you'd have to piece it together yourself. Or my favorite scene  They go to a restaurant sit down, order drinks, talk to the owner then to themselves and leave. No words describing them actually drinking or paying for it. The book was so full of dialogue and tons of minor details that I consider filler but lacked descriptive words on what the characters were doing.

There was also words missing in sentences like the or and...etc. Simple words that caused derailment because you were like did I read that right? It was like one chapter was edited okay but then you would get to the next chapter and the problems started all over again. :smack:

My problem with the second is the owner who owns Guilty Pleasure who also has a back room full of Adult Items does not coincide with the Heroine's personality who seems somewhat shy and not someone who would own an Adult store. I think it would take a special outgoing gal to run one in that small of a town but Ronnie is from up north. I think it was Boston and from an Italian family. So it's not very believable.

Some of the town's people want the shop gone and they are showed in the negative as the evil people throughout the series. The author's writing isn't what I say bad but I do think with some polish and reediting it could actually be pretty good and believable.

That doesn't sound good; I'm definitely staying away from her. I'm reading a book right now that's giving me fits, because of the lack of proper editing, among other things. It's taking all my patience just to finish :(

I had only used 3 of my credits previously, so I have plenty left. The Apple Grove book looked to be the best of this month's choices to me, so I thought I'd give it a try. She's a new author for me.

Using the 50% off code, I also bought the other book by M.L. Buchman in his The Night Stalkers series since book 2 was still available for free.

I think I have more patience now for lack of an editor than I did when I read her books. This could be due to the number of Indie books I have been reading but seeing I am getting them for free through the Lending program, It's something I can overlook unlike when you pay $6 for books put out by a publisher you have higher expectations.

I can tell you Julie Ann Walker is now my most favorite author that DANL has published. Half way through Hell on Wheels and I see me going straight to the next books. so far this is 5 Star for me if it keeps going like it is. :D

http://www.allromanceebooks.com/product-passionatecooks-944744-174.html

Food and love have had a long association, for Passionate Cooks: Free Recipes From Today’s Hottest Romance Authors, over 150 authors of the genre have put their pens and computers aside to don aprons, get down and dirty in the kitchen, and share their love of food.
Much like romance novels themselves, the dishes range from spicy to sweet. There is something for every taste and every level of culinary expertise. The cookbook includes New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Mari Carr’s “Wild Irish” Cream of Crab Soup recipe. Western GBLT author BA Tortuga contributes a dish as spicy and colorful as the straight-shooting author herself with Ranch Hands—a blend of Tabasco, salsa, onions and cumin, added to pinto beans, eggs, Canadian bacon and cheddar cheese and served in a tortilla. And for those of you who are feeling extra creative and sexy, there’s the Avocado Dip that doubles as body paint from mystery writer Marcia James.

Some recipes are simple, such as Down Home Mac & Cheese, while some are more exotic, such as Spicy Shrimp Risotto. There are even some gluten-free selections, like the Sweet and Spicy Gluten-Free Lo Mein-ish Noodles from erotica author Sommer Marsden. And a few are perfectly timed for a Halloween, such as Tracey H. Kitt’s Gamberi del Diavolo or Shrimp of the Devil.

Best of all, they are FREE!

Cafe du Jour [Kindle Edition] Lilian Darcy (Author)

http://www.amazon.com/Cafe-du-Jour-ebook/dp/B0050G05FO/ref=zg_bs_154606011_f_100

This is a real book-of-the-heart for me, and I'm delighted that it has found a new life with Kindle, after going out of print in the original paperback edition. For anyone familiar with my other books, this one is going to be a little different. It's more bitter-sweet, and less centrally focused on the romance. But there most definitely is a romance, and there's the focus on family bonds and family challenges that my books always contain. There's also a lot of coffee, so you may want to have a cappuccino or a latte or an espresso close at hand, while you're reading.

About the Author
Best-selling women's fiction author Lilian Darcy has written nearly eighty novels for Harlequin Medical Romance, Silhouette Romance and Special Edition, as well as having written for Australian theatre and television under another name.

Lilian's career highlights include numerous appearances on the Waldenbooks series romance bestsellers list, four nominations for the Romance Writers of America's prestigious RITA™ Award, and translation into twenty different languages.

It doesn't have very many good reviews. :chinscratch: I just read Julia Quinn endorsed it so I imagine it's similar to her writing style.

Ah over at GR it says the negative reviews are from an attack on the author. So I guess check out what GR reviews says about it before making a decision.

Okay I wound up buying four of her books at BOB at $3.39 a piece. If you use Google Checkout you get an additional 10% off but I use Paypal because hubby is paying for it. You see he went out and got a new 40" Flat-screen so I don't feel the least bit guilty about it. :p

I picked up her Time Swept Titles. (Non Viking)

Frankly, My Dear, Sweeter Savage Love, Desperado and Love Me Tender.

It's been years since I read one of her books so if I am in the mood for some comic relief I now have something to read. Needless to say Ms. Hill is not for the serious historical purist. Almost all her books involved time travel of some sort.

Rock Chick (http://www.amazon.com/Rock-Chick-ebook/dp/B004QT6Y92/) by Kristen Ashely
Series Rock Chick 01
Genre: Romantic Suspense

If you haven't tried KA this is one of the books I recommend to give it a go with. Indy and Lee grew up together. So this is a childhood friends to lover story. Lee is one of my all time favorite heroes. This first book has a very Stephanie Plum likeness to it. As the series progressed it turns more into a romance suspense type stories. Can I compare Lee to Ranger in some way yes but Lee's more of the boy next door turn bad boy. I love Lee and in future books he proves himself time and time again as he helps his friends out. Indy the heroine is a Wild Child so Lee has his hands full trying to keep her safe! I admit I laughed alot reading this. It doesn't reach Plum ridiculousness but it has it LOL moments.

No it's not about Rock groupies. The series takes place in Denver which is why the heroine in the series call themselves a Rock Chick. The series revolves around a bookstore/Coffee shop. The guys are call The Hot Bunch.

Keep in Mind that KA lives in the UK so sometimes you see out of place swear words that no one in Denver would actually use. I ignore those.

I finally just broke down and gave Kristen Ashley a try. I started with Motorcycle Man after reading a review at Dear Author. I thought I would be put off by the grammar because I tend to really hate that, but there's something about the way Kristen writes that sweeps you along. She has a certain style and voice that you either hate or don't mind. It reminds me a bit of JR Ward (only on steroids LOL).

If you are thinking of trying her, download a sample and that should tell you pretty quickly whether you can put up with it or not. Meanwhile, I've bought at least 4 or 5 of her others, including the two that were recently on sale. I'm going to space them out so I don't get sick of her, but I'm looking forward to reading them.

Her best friend professes his undying love; her show gets canceled; and the mother who disappeared seventeen years ago appears on their doorstep, getting instant forgiveness from the entire family... except Carly.

Carly rushes off to Bilby to return the cursed quilt, and then surprises herself; she stays. She rents a cabin, gets a job, and meets an artist who shows her new ways to look at life, and love. Can she run away and start a new life, or should she go back and stitch her old one back together?

http://www.amazon.com/Tarzan-Janine-Texas-Billionaires-ebook/dp/B009K9NM8E/ref=zg_bs_154606011_f_61

A laugh-out-loud romantic adventure!

See what happens when a secret billionaire and an aspiring actress get a little wild in Texas.

A man with a soft spot for women...

Closet Texas millionaire, Tanner Peschke has three months to prove he can make a profit at the family used car dealership or he will lose his job, disappoint his father and break his promise to his dying mother. The root of his problem is women. He can't resist them--any of them. All it takes is the scent of delicate perfume or a misty-eyed gaze from an elderly woman with a sob story, and he becomes silly putty in the hands of his feminine customers. Until, with a stroke of luck and a buck of a mechanical bull, he hires Janine Davis to star with him in the dealership's live TV ads.

A woman who won't let a handsome cowboy get in the way of her dream...

Determined to make a name for herself, Janine needs to pay the bills between acting jobs. The offer to do a series of commercials for Peschke Motors is a chance to get her face "out there". Recognizing a player when she sees one, Janine agrees to co-star with her handsome employer fully intending to keep their relationship strictly professional. First break she gets, she's heading to Hollywood.

Their jungle-themed commercials take a crazy twist, and Tanner finds himself falling...from a sales banner while chasing a monkey. But more importantly, he's falling for Janine. She's just the one woman to tame this cowboy's wild heart. Convincing her to stay with him might be harder than catching a mischievous monkey.

Hale's Point (http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/155426) by Patricia Ryan (previously published by Harlequin as "The Return of the Black Sheep" 1995)

For twenty years, Tucker Hale has been estranged from his father and presumed dead. To his surprise, it is not his father he encounters one night when he returns home, but Harley Ann Sayers, a young woman who is spending her summer house-sitting. Still recovering from injuries sustained in a plane crash, Tucker walks with a cane. Having some experience in therapy work, Harley offers to help him heal. Even though he feels the swimming will not help, he agrees to her idea of working in the pool just to please her. The added incentive of Harley’s ‘if you can catch me you can have me’ didn’t hurt either! But soon Tucker’s father will come home and old feelings and accusations must be dealt with. Old wounds seem harder to heal than new ones for these wonderful, deserving characters. The healing power of a loved one is extraordinary. Passionate, playful, powerful!

Marked (http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/112502) by Elisabeth Naughton (#1 Eternal Guardians) previously published by Love Spell 2010

THERON – Dark haired, duty bound and deceptively deadly. He’s the leader of the Argonauts, an elite group of guardians that defends the immortal realm from threats of the Underworld.

From the moment he walked into the club, Casey knew this guy was different. Men like that just didn’t exist in real life—silky shoulder-length hair, chest impossibly broad, and a predatory manner that just screamed dark and dangerous. He was looking for something. Her.

She was the one. She had the mark. Casey had to die so his kind could live, and it was Theron’s duty to bring her in. But even as a 200-year-old descendent of Hercules, he wasn’t strong enough to resist the pull in her fathomless eyes, to tear himself away from the heat of her body.

As war with the Underworld nears, someone will have to make the ultimate sacrifice.

Robyns has published two straight historicals and a contemporary with Carina Press.

A Victorian Steampunk/Paranormal adventure with strong elements of romance...

Lady Lily d'Bulier is prim, proper, and prefers to think of herself as pragmatic rather than timid. And avoiding life-threatening situations at all costs is just plain practical. But everything changes when Lord Adair tracks her down in London; searching for answers he seems to think she has.

Greyston Adair is a blackguard and a smuggler, although British Customs will have to catch him red-handed to prove the latter. Fortunately, the dirigibles they float around in have never been able to get near his air dust.

Hell is rising, One Demon at a Time...

With Lady Ostrich hunting them, and the mystery of how their lives tie back to Cragloden Castle and the powerful McAllister clan, Lily has no option but to throw propriety to the wind and run off with Greyston to Scotland, away from the immediate danger and toward possible answers.

It's listed under romance, although Amazon calls it a humorous mystery. Well, maybe it's one with strong romantic elements. I like the picture on the cover!

You always find your mojo in the last place you look for it... When a female attorney relocates to the quaint town of Mojo, Louisiana to take over the practice of a dead man, she thinks the welcome gift on her office doorstep is sweet...until she opens it to find a voodoo doll! After a horrible death occurs that's a little too close for comfort, she can no longer ignore the power of the evil doll...and frantically realizes her secret past might be catching up with her.

Autumn's Flame US (http://www.amazon.com/Autumns-Flame-ebook/dp/B004W9C5XU/) DE (http://www.amazon.de/Autumns-Flame-ebook/dp/B004W9C5XU/) by Denise Domning. Another volume in this series was free a few weeks ago.

Forth offering in the series following the admirable FitzHenry's, Denise Domning leaves us mesmerized and wishing for at least five more brothers left to tell about. Since the death of her father, Lady Elyssa of Freyne has been given as wife twice by the courts, both times to abusive husbands. Now, upon news of her second husband's death, the indomitable redhead is desperate to remain free of any man's control as she petitions the courts to give her sole custody of her young son. When her petition is denied, it is Geoffery FitzHenry, Lord Caudray, sheriff of the shire that must take the spurned firebrand to ward and make a man of her spoiled son. Hideously scarred by the madness of his first wife, Geoffrey's wounds go much deeper than just his physical appearance. The people of his shire regard him as evil; the devil's own spawn and the small daughter that he longs to embrace is incapable of looking at him without fear in her eyes. Yet, the Lady Elyssa is oblivious to his scars as she meets his intimidating gaze with a temper that flames as bright as her hair. When the High Sheriff sends her son away to squire out to his brother, Lady Alyssa resolves to ignore her growing attraction for the man that holds her destiny with such blatant disregard - a resolve that proves more difficult by the day. Until the innocent love of a child brings healing to hearts meant for one another.

Upon her return, Liz is caught up in Cajun superstition as her father deems that she must now become "The Keeper of the Fire Opal." As the Keeper, Liz must fight Ankouer - le fantome noir. She is the last Guardian. All this seems to be a little much for Liz, especially considering that she has shed all trappings of her earlier life. That's where her former boyfriend Zachary Fortier comes in. Left behind all those years ago, Zach is ready to settle his feelings for Liz, but not until they take care of Ankouer (the evil spirit). When spoiled heiress Lady Sarah Miles assumes the identity of a drowned governess to escape marriage to her best friend, James, she thinks her troubles will be over within the fortnight.

Arriving at the grand estate of reformist MP Roland Hawthorne to take charge of the tortured widower's rebellious sixteen-year-old daughter, Caro, Sarah unexpectedly forms a strong attachment to the occupants of her new household.

But when Sarah’s deceit plays into the hands of an unexpected adversary who uses Caro as a pawn in a high stakes game of revenge, Sarah must risk everything she holds dear - including her love for Roland - to redeem herself.

Virtual Strangers US (http://www.amazon.com/Virtual-Strangers-ebook/dp/B008EUR4SO/) DE (http://www.amazon.de/Virtual-Strangers-ebook/dp/B008EUR4SO/) by Lynne Barrett-Lee (first: Bantam 2001).

Fed up, frustrated and fast approaching forty, Charlie Simpson hasn’t had many high points in her life just lately. The only peak on the horizon is her ambition to climb Everest, if she could only get organised and save up the cash.
Unfortunately, though, she has more pressing things to deal with; her eldest son moving out, her father moving in, and her best friend moving two hundred miles away. She finds solace, however, via her newly acquired modem, when she stumbles upon a stranger who’s a like-minded soul. Like-minded, perhaps, but no fantasy dream date. Though virtual, he’s of the real-life variety – he may be a hero, but he has a wife.
Charlie hasn’t got a husband, but she certainly has principles, and they’re about to be hauled up a mountain themselves. And, of course, her mum’s always said she shouldn’t talk to strangers. The question is, is now the time to start breaking the rules?

I did finally decide to give this series a try after reading a description on a blog and finally realizing that it is in fact NOT about about a bunch of rock band groupies. :o

I just finished Rock Chick (http://www.amazon.com/Rock-Chick-ebook/dp/B004QT6Y92) (still on sale for $1.99). Loved it. Laughed out loud many times throughout. Wasn't bothered by grammar or spelling to any extent. I will definitely going back for more. :D

I had seen a comment elsewhere that these books are a lot like Linda Howard's Blair Mallory books (love them). I have to agree they have a very similar feel and voice.

And ok it wasn't about rock band groupies in the sense that they were chasing a rock star throughout the book, but the girls ARE rabid rock band fans. It didn't factor into the plot but was a large part of the character back story so I wasn't that far off in my earlier assessment. :)

I just finished this book and loved it! It's book one of the series so it has alot of world building in it but that doesn't take away from the couples' story at all.

The chemistry between the tortured hero and spunky heroine is great! I gave this book 5 stars because I just enjoyed it that much. I laughed alot, I cried some and not once did I want to smack the heroine which is very unusual for me.

I loved the author's writing style. It's unique and everything flows well together.

For $1 @ Amazon: The Guy Next Door: Ready, Set, Jett\Gail's Gone Wild\Just One Taste (Hqn) (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004MPRYXK/)

Publication Date: March 1, 2011
Three sexy new spring-fling novellas from three of today's hottest contemporary romance authors!

Ready, Set, Jett by Lori Foster

A vacation from her no-strings romance with her sexy next-door neighbor. That's what Natalie Alexander needs to get her head—and heart—together. But her solo trip south turns into a disaster when gorgeous Jett Sutter turns up with another challenge.

Gail's Gone Wild by Susan Donovan

Single mom Gail Chapman insists on chaperoning her teenage daughter's spring-break trip to Key West. But she never expects to face temptation—in the hunky form of Jesse Batista, the mysterious man in the cottage next door.

Just One Taste by Victoria Dahl

All-work-and-no-play businessman Eric Donovan won't be distracted by a "businesswoman" who's all wrong for him. Beth Cantrell owns a women's erotica shop! And she has a juicy little secret. Can she tempt him to put pleasure before business for once?

(I bought it for more than that a while back because I wanted to read Eric & Beth's backstory before I read Dahl's Real Men Will)

And now I need to decide what to read in my HEA TBR pile... since I just this moment finished Gone Girl and need something HEA to read. LOL Crazy book (but most definitely not a romance! I hear Reese Witherspoon has bought the movie rights to it - will she be the one to play Amazing Amy? Time with tell....)

My TBR is a mile long or maybe two miles at this point!
I'm reading Bubbles Unbound by Sarah Strohmeyer. This is not available in ebook form. :(

I'm trying to finish Effortless by SC Stephens, Fever by Joan Swan and Raven on a Wing by Kay Hooper. My reading time has been a bit limited these past couple of weeks or I start reading something else but I will finish these.

I enjoyed the first one so much I immediately went and about the other two. Just finished the third yesterday and I concur with Blossom. Well written and the heroine's are not annoying at all.

Totally agree. I mean this in the absolute kindest way - but Blossom has gotten me into SOO much trouble. It's my own fault, everytime I see her name on the main screen, I come running in and end up buying something. Is is possible to love and not like someone at the same time? LOL! Just kidding Blossom.

I actually got the entire Rock Chick series based solely on her recommendation and it's next on my TBR list which is now stretching from here to Pluto. God, I hope I live long enough to finish all these books.

I had seen a comment elsewhere that these books are a lot like Linda Howard's Blair Mallory books (love them). I have to agree they have a very similar feel and voice.

I did not need to hear this! I love Linda Howard (not her most recent stuff though) and the Blair Mallory books are favorites of mine (now I want to read them again!!). Ok, you've got me - I'm going to try the Rock Chick series :smack:

:rofl::rofl: I try to recommended books I've read that I loved or heard good things about. It's funny some books I find amazing sometimes do not have the best reviews by some big reviewers out there. And some books I have gotten because of big reviewers said they were very good I found I didn't like them.

That's great! I love to pull fellow non romance readers in the genre. Please those who saw something here on one of our threads then read the book come back and tell us how you liked or didn't like it. It's really is what makes it worth sharing. I too go by recommendation here by others.

This has been the year of contemporary romance reading for me. I read one historical series back in January and that was it. I think next year I will be adding historicals back in but I've enjoyed the switch up for a change. :D

Hey, I don't know which of you like paranormal reads, since I am relativity new to this thread, but I found an free short for Halloween by Christina Dodd. I love the Wilder bunch!

From Christina Dodd:
Several years ago, when I wrote WILDER FAMILY HALLOWEEN, I loved revisiting the Wilder family and discovering what happened after Darkness Chosen. This year, I updated the story, and posted it on my website for October. I’m also posting it here, in October *only,* as a download for my readers who would like to keep the story as part of their Darkness Chosen collection. So…

When Kate Brodie inherits Waterfall Glen it seems like the start of an exciting new life. Full of romantic notions, she swaps her dull routine in San Francisco for life as a Highland lady. But the stunning beauty of the glen belies a troubled history and uncertain future, and Kate's imposing new home, Greystane House, is full of disturbing revelations about her family's past. Each portrait on the ancient walls tells an un-nerving story, while the empty rooms echo with rumors of a centuries-old curse that takes on new significance when unsettling events threaten the small community whose fate lies in her hands. The only person Kate can turn to is a man haunted by equally troubling events, a man she has every reason not to trust. Only with his help can she find a way to defend old values against the materialism of the modern world. Only together can they lay their ghosts to rest.

Rebel meets by-the-book businessman. Love doesn't stand a ghost of a chance.

A Karmic Consultants story.

Jo Banks has been seeing ghosts since she was six, so normal was never really an option. Embracing the weird and shunning normalcy makes her the top Ghost Exterminator in her region. Then she meets Wyatt Haines, the uptight, materialistic and irritatingly sexy owner of a successful resort chain.

Wyatt's new Victorian inn is extremely haunted and the Commando Barbie Ghost Exterminator is just the girl for the job. Except Wyatt doesn't believe in ghosts, or Jo, or anything outside the norm. He'll have to start believing fast, though, because Jo's extermination goes awry and accidentally throws two prankster ghosts into Wyatt's body to haunt him.

Every time he falls asleep, the mischievous ghosts take over, turning his perfectly ordered life into chaos. His waking hours are no less chaotic, with his thoughts possessed by Jo's quirky appeal and Playmate physique.

Unfortunately, Jo's ghost-exing mojo is on the fritz just when she needs it the most to unhaunt Wyatt and figure out why his inn is swarming with ghosts. Preferably before his spirit is permanently separated from his mouth-watering body.

And before her heart is permanently attached to the most sexy, frustrating, normal man she's ever met.

Warning: This book contains prankster ghosts, PG bondage, and a not-so-PG trip to the mile-high club.

Cinderella and Prince Charming never had to consider the welfare of their children

When widower Tyler Fitzpatrick meets Annie Barnes at his daughter’s school, his libido goes tilt. The sexy single mother is everything he and his grieving little girl need. Unfortunately, Annie flatly refuses his dinner invitation. She wants a husband and a father for her son—not just a boyfriend. And the last time she checked, wealthy, summa-cum-laude lawyers didn’t marry high-school-drop-out housekeepers.

Tyler concedes there’s a vast difference between their experiences and lifestyles. Still, he’s inexplicably drawn to the impoverished young woman—even though her little boy reminds Tyler of an underprivileged past he’d rather forget. While becoming better acquainted, he offers Annie a job caring for his daughter and home in Redemption, PA. He also proposes a Parent Pact—an agreement to become role models to each other’s child and to fill one another’s needs as single parents while they continue to search for true love.

Accepting Tyler’s offer would solve a lot of Annie’s problems. However, surrendering to her weak-in-the-knees attraction to the irresistible widower could very well leave her and her son heartbroken. Yet, when circumstances threaten her ability to feed her child, Annie reluctantly agrees to the pact, making it clear she has no desire for Tyler to fill her so-called needs in bed. It’s a bald-faced lie, but she knows the man’s desperation to give his daughter the nurturing she needs will compel him to accept a purely platonic relationship.

Now, Annie’s only problem is resisting the overwhelming temptation to let sin-in-a-tailored-suit Tyler seduce her.

Piracy of the Heart

Sherry Mason fully intended to refuse the plea of her weak-willed friend, Paul Villeré, that she be his pretend fiancée during a visit to his Louisiana home. Let him stand up to his arrogant older brother Lucien and refuse to marry the girl chosen for him! But that was before she received the late-night phone call from Lucien and heard his scathing opinion of her character and relationship with Paul.

Still, she underestimates Lucien's determination to prevent her appearance at the family gathering -- until he spirits her away to an isolated bayou mansion. To submit to this abduction is impossible; Sherry makes every effort to thwart Lucien's plan. But how can she escape the unwilling desires of her own heart?

The Tuscan's Revenge Wedding US (http://www.amazon.com/Tuscans-Revenge-Billionaires-Collection-ebook/dp/B009QO5V8W/) DE (http://www.amazon.de/Tuscans-Revenge-Billionaires-Collection-ebook/dp/B009QO5V8W/) by Jennifer Blake. Don't you just love these Harlequin-Presents-like-sounding titles? Who invents these?

Revenge can indeed be sweet...

When her brother's car plunges off a cliff with him and his fiancée in it, Amanda Davies gets the news personally from the fiancée's brother. The devastatingly handsome Italian businessman appears in Atlanta and whisks Amanda off to Italy to be with the hospitalized couple. But could his motive be more?

Nicholas de Frenza never approved of his sister's choice in husband to begin with, and now that Carita is in a coma due to her fiancé's reckless driving, it seems the perfect time to resurrect an ancient Italian custom of revenge: the seduction calls for a similar seduction in return, a sister for a sister. But Nico is too civilized for such vengeance -- or is he?

Even as Amanda falls for the Tuscan's charms, she knows his code and his family would never approve of her as more than a simple dalliance. But then the secret about the car wreck comes out -- and that's when everything changes...

A brand-new contemporary romance by one of the legends of the genre.
Category-length novel.

So do you think this would be an updated version because on googling it seems that it was first published by Signet in 1979 under the name Bayou Bride by Maxine Patrick. Just curious I like a retro romance so I'm hoping it's the original version.

It's good to see an author leave her original works alone.

Finding the original cover to Cynthia Wright's Caroline when it was a freebie is what sealed my devotion to this thread. Since I'm primarily a mystery reader, I was only browsing the Romance thread when I checked out Caroline because it sounded familiar. Then I found the old cover and remembered reading and loving it when it was new. I had that thick apricot-colored paperback in my library for years.

Next I bought and re-read some Lavyrle Spencer old favorites and now I fit a romance into my reading regularly. I'm with Melmac...I love this thread, too.

She rewrites her books so they aren't the original.

Authors Note, June 2012 - This new, subtly revised version of CAROLINE addresses concerns voiced by some contemporary readers. CAROLINE was originally written & published in 1977. In this new edition, I believe that Alec is a more mature alpha hero and Caro is a stronger heroine. If you have read and loved CAROLINE in the past, I think you will love it even more now!

I was lucky to purchase it before she did this though. So I have the original non P.C. version. I just wish I had gotten the rest of the series at the time.

No, I do as well. It is because I remember the book that way and not by the new cover. Sometimes I use the stepback covers as well. Here is an example:

This is what I think whenever I am thinking about this book so that is the image I use. Recently my nook changed the covers of some of my books and I used calibre to change them back because of this.

Josie Bran has a great idea to keep her sister's husband from messing up the living room: Husband Rehab. She's a witch who can brew spells, but she never uses her craft in public. She takes matters into her own hands and offers marital therapy for a few lucky men. When her old crush, Lennox Cruz, comes asking for help, she can't imagine why. He's perfect. Josie falls for him again as she pretends to provide therapy. In the end she must make a fateful decision: help Lennox love his evil wife, or help him escape her.

No, I usually do. Unless I cannot find them or really like the new cover better (which is rare).

Even too small images which don't look so hot on my PC usually look fine on my Sony. And I added Fantastic Fiction to the auto grab sources in Calibre, so I don't always have to track down the images myself.

Some of my favorite stepbacks are hard to find. And I hate trying to scan them because it can damage the paperback. Amanda Quick's were my favorite because they had more than just the standard clench hold. Several scenes were depicted. Here is her Rendezvous stepback

I think the feature is part of the Fantastic Fiction plugin. It's been a while (and several versions of Calibre) since I did it and don't quite remember how. But now when I click on Download Cover on the Edit Metadata screen, Fantastic Fiction is one of the sources it grabs from.

I think Fiction DB has a plug in, too, but their covers are ofter too small. I do like their site for missing blurbs.

I found 2 more very nice plugins!

- View Manager - allows you to save multiple column sorts which can include multi-column bidirectional sorts. I've already saved 6 sorts that I run all the time.

- Open with - allows you to select an epub and specify which program to open it. Now epubs can be opened with Sigil and covers open with GIMP by selecting it in Calibre (which is generally where I identify the problem that needs tweaking). Really nice, it saves a lot of navigation for those of us with large Calibre libraries.

I feel like I just got a major Calibre upgrade tonight! :D

I have FictionDB set for metadata only and covers I get from goodreads, Amazon, B&N or Fantastic Fiction.

I'm a little different. The cover must match the edition.

Cover Resize one is another one I love. Oh and Generate Cover for those books that need one. My most favorite is mobi unpack. It extracts the content of a mobi file allowing me to edit it! :D It also extracts the new KF8 into a epub so there's no need to convert.

I *love* epubmerge

Me too. I use it for the books I keep on my Kindle Fire for referencing. One series has like 20 books so I use that plugins to merge 6 books together each so instead of 20 I now have 4 that I can search through quickly.

I also love Epub split. I took that Naked Series by Sally MacKenzie and used that plugin to split everything into individual books. I find most bundles don't come in order and this is a great way to fix that. I use to have to do it manually.

Just a heads for you Audible members. Until the end of the month they have the Molly Harper and Vicki Lewis Thompson werewolf books on sale for $6.95 a piece. :D There's other werewolf books too. It's part of there Shocktober sale. (http://www.audible.com/mt/Shocktober/)

I just finished a Werewolf in Manhattan and loved it! If you like light-hearted funny paranormals like say Lindsay Sands you will enjoy Vicki Lewis Thompson's werewolf series. This is my third book by this author. I've read a few of her old HQs and I've enjoy them all. She can really write tension well.

Molly Harper is very funny and I love her books. I don't know about you but I prefer fun, non scary books like these over the more dark ones out there. I scare easy.

If you like Urban Fantasy the Kitty Norville books are part of the series. Not really romance although there is a love triangle in it. I got stuck after the vegas book. Ah well.

Lots of gratitude to Library Addict, Apesmom, and Blossom for all the plug-in tips. :thanks::thanks::thanks:

I spent last evening happily splitting my bundles into individual books. Love all the new cover plug-ins. I still enjoy manual cover searches on special books, often public domain where I want the 1st edition dust jacket or pulp pb cover. Some of my best have come from eBay. The Modify Epub plug-in allowed me to go back and replace covers with the ones that I already found for the Calibre display.

I'm weird in that I like to manually split my bundles, but I'll check out this ePub split plugin.

I am also a tag minimalist. I usually only tag the book as:
Contemporary, Historical, Futuristic, or Time Travel (or in the instances that don't fit one of those, I also use Steampunk or Fantasy, but they are more rare for me)
And as applicable I use:
Paranormal
Anthology
Novella
Online read (for Harlequin free stories/author website freebies/etc)
the series type (Silhouette Intimate Moments/Harlequin Intrigue/etc). This is for all for category books: Silhouette, Harlequin, Loveswept, Candlelight Ecstasy, Jove, etc.
And in rare instances, a series name if a book is part of two series (such as Jayne Castle's Arcane books which are also part of her World or Harmony series) or when characters from one series cross-over into another

And I always use the original publication date. If a book is a reissue I will list the "current" publisher or self-published, and then add a note about the original publisher in the notes below the blurb.

I love that Calibre is so easy to personalize the way each individual wants to. I like my meta-data the way I want it and if I had to keep the publisher's it would annoy me :p

All this plug-in talk reminds me what a sad state the Tags and series info for my library are in. :(I bit the bullet and cleaned up my library and tags back when it had less than 200 books. I made a list of the tags I thought I would need. It took a week or so for me to get it done, and now I just manually edit each book's metadata as I add it. Of course during the huge Harlequin sale last year, that took me a few days with all the new additions.

I also split my library so I have my main library and one I call "Vault" where I put all the books I liked enough to keep, but don't currently have on my Sony.

Because space isn't an issue I find myself keeping digital copies of books I would probably donate if they were print. So I try to ask myself if I would really ever reread the book. Yet, I still find it easier to delete freebie books that were "meh" than ones I paid for :smack:

Me too! I'm pretty meticulous with my meta-data. I usually list the original publication date, if it's a self-pub backlist release I will list the original publisher. I like my bundles and anthologies broken up into individual files so I can rate each one, and have it appear in the correct series and author sorts (this reduces the likelihood of buying the same book twice!). The only thing it doesn't do that I want is allow me to assign 1/2 stars for the rating.

I still can't believe it's free. Nora Roberts is a big name. Funny I'm currently reading one of her books. One of her old HQs that Penguin reissued and charges outrageous prices on. $7 for a HQ that has 12 chapters is ridiculous! I admit I was duped back in April when I bought it. :o

I've seen those. And I agree it's obscene the prices they want for those old Harlequins.

I remember when she made such a big deal about putting that symbol on her new books because she was so frustrated that Harlequin kept reprinting her old books. And yet, as soon as they reverted to her, she went with a publisher that put them out in about 3 months, without any acknowledgement that they were reprints either. And those prices, sheesh!

Yeah I bought two of them before I found out they were HQs so that $14+tax I paid but I am wiser now. ;) I can't wait for Agency pricing to go away with that publisher. They have to give in sometime. Not as high as Random House books but still.

This (a special ASIN) must be why it didn't display that I already had the book in my Audible library. I had clicked through the link, but I was pretty sure I had already bought it, but it didn't display as being "in library".

I guess it wouldn't have mattered, since it's a freebie. But I wouldn't have wanted to have it in my library twice anyway.

Drive Me Crazy (http://store.samhainpublishing.com/drive-crazy-p-6824.html) by Jenna Bayley-Burke free @ Samhain site using coupon code 621cd1be46 @ check out

The quickest way to love isn’t always a straight line.

This was supposed to be Xavier Moreau’s long-awaited vacation. A few precious weeks away from his over-scheduled career to see the America his mother loved and still make it to his best friend’s wedding in time. Instead, he’s ferrying the bridezilla’s sister to the nuptials. The luscious Jaime Cruz makes his mouth water, but her near-frenzy to get to Oregon now would scrape on his last nerve—if he didn’t sense that she needs the break as much as he does.

Fresh off a teaching assignment in D.C., Jaime’s white-knuckling it. She’s got only three weeks to get home, find a job and a place to live, and ensure her sister’s big day comes off without a hitch. Except Xavier tosses her three-days-or-bust itinerary out the window. Even more annoying, Jaime finds herself succumbing to his relentless determination to make sure she enjoys every minute of the trip. And falling under the spell of his sizzling touch.

Three weeks and three thousand miles later, Jaime’s feet are on home ground, but her heart is pulling her in a completely unexpected direction. Toward Xavier and a new journey that will require the ultimate leap of faith.

The Greek's Stolen Bride US (http://www.amazon.com/Greeks-Stolen-Bride-Legends-ebook/dp/B009N8WBXY/) DE (http://www.amazon.de/Greeks-Stolen-Bride-Legends-ebook/dp/B009N8WBXY/) by Kate Hewitt (Harlequin author)

Theo Atrikes has come to a remote Greek island for one reason only: to wreak vengeance on Miles Leotokos, the man who destroyed his father. He is shocked when Leotokos's daughter Ariana asks for his help in making her escape from her island prison... but he can't resist those dark, flashing eyes or soft, lush mouth. Stealing Leotokos's daughter and claiming her as his bride will make Theo's revenge all the sweeter.

Ariana may have lived a sheltered existence, but she is no man's fool. Despite her intense attraction to Theo, she is determined to keep her freedom, just as Theo resolves to think only of revenge. Neither of them is prepared for the emotions and desire they awaken in each other... but is it enough to risk all they once knew and finally put to rest the ghosts of their pasts?

Inspired by the Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur, The Greek's Stolen Bride is written by USAToday bestselling author Kate Hewitt, and is the first in the Legends of Love series of intense, emotional romances inspired by Greek myths.

TARA COLE SPECIALIZES IN REVENGE

In fact, she's an expert. Lace pillows filled with cat hair-for your least-favorite, most allergic relative; boxer shorts that set off metal detectors-for your cheating spouse; and her best seller at RevengeGifts.com: chocolates for your worst enemy, so you can watch gleefully as she packs on the pounds.

Tara's best friend warns her that all this revenge is damaging her karma, but Tara doesn't care about her next life-she wants to enjoy this one. Besides, her kitchen is full of cranky ghosts. Tara figures she'll be the same one day, when she leaves the mortal plane.

That might happen sooner than she thought, because someone has put a curse on her. A black cat, a black dog, even a black goat, appear, each followed by bizarre, almost-disastrous events. And it all started around the time Howard showed up. Howard says he wants to go into business with Tara, but it seems like he wants to go to bed with her. Unless he's the one who cursed her . . . .

Is this karma coming full circle-or destiny knocking on Tara's door?

Masquerading as her benefactress, Susanna travels to the Virginia colonies to take the dying heiress’ place as head of the sprawling tobacco plantation Briarwood…and to “marry wisely.”

Once, the exquisite impostor would have welcomed the attentions of handsome Adam Thornton. But now, consorting with a “hired hand” is unthinkable—though the raw, sensual power of the rugged plantation manager leaves Susanna breathless. If the book is in KF8 you can use Mobi unpack to extract to epub or without converting. Once you convert Calibre will make it impossible to split because it resplits the html under the same filename.

Most old mobi files are usually just one long html file but mobi unpack will extract the contents if you want to check them out.

Just arrived from England, he bears the news that Evleen’s young half brother Patrick—born to the dissolute Englishman who stole her mother’s heart and spent her fortune—is the heir to a vast estate. Patrick’s mother won’t let him go unless Evleen accompanies him to England with Lord Thomas. Thus begins Evleen’s harrowing journey from her beloved Ireland to England, where she finds herself an outcast in London’s snobbish high society.

Marry Me US (http://www.amazon.com/Marry-Me-ebook/dp/B009P8NHRQ/) DE (http://www.amazon.de/Marry-Me-ebook/dp/B009P8NHRQ/) by Cheryl Holt (Zebra & Berkley author).

Bestselling author, CHERYL HOLT, sets her sights on the Colorado Rockies with her fun, sexy, and fast-paced Merriweather trilogy. The three Merriweather siblings—Lucas, Dustin, and Brittney—think they have it all. As the heirs of the Merriweather gold dynasty, they grew up rich, spoiled and entitled. Yet all the money in the world hasn’t bought them love or happiness. They lead lonely, isolated lives. But that’s about to change. As they meet the most unlikely trio of characters—a con artist, a nosy reporter, and a wounded vet—they learn that even the most carefully-constructed world can be turned upside down. By the right person. Passion, friendship, and everlasting love can strike in the oddest places, and dreams really do come true. Originally released as three separate novellas, Ms. Holt has bundled them under one beautiful cover for readers to cherish. Three great stories. One great book. Seduce Me, Kiss Me, Love Me…MARRY ME!

Long Time Coming (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004RJ7Y8Q/ref=cm_cd_asin_lnk) by Edie Claire

When Joy Hudson left home she thought it was for good, but now that her father has suffered a major heart attack, she's back in Wharton, Kentucky, bringing her veterinary practice with her. She has spent the last 18 years running away from the memory of her best friend's tragic death and the boy, Jeff Bradford, she blames for it. Well, the boy is now a man and her father's doctor, so she can't avoid him. Forced to confront her past, she dives right in and purchases her friend's old house, then tries to find the truth about the accident. With old friends happy to see her, she starts to realize her memory of that terrible time in high school is skewed, and she needs to truly forgive Jeff, and herself. The house itself seems to be guiding her with supernatural occurrences. Ultimately, Claire's charming romance disproves the adage that you can't go home again.
