Hullo,

No idea if anyone's interested, but apparently a new lBook V3 Version 2 was announced by lBook.

With deepest thanks to a Cyrillic-speaking person on IRC (LunohoD_), here are the details...
http://openinkpot.org/wiki/V3%20Technical%20Details
Modified case design
Internal memory increased to 512MB
USB 2.0
Choice of colours (Black and white)
Vizplex 3.0 (translation - "epson controller in march and the new vizplex V3.0 + asic controller(16bpp, 8fps) to follow in summer")
8fps

Out in March, I believe.

Too little too late.

Too little too late.

How so? I think the fact that apparently this upcoming V3 will be 8fps is quite notable, as I don't think anyone else has mentioned this...

I can't find a mention of this on http://www.eink.com's site...

If this is really true about Vizplex 3.0 and the Epson controller, why has nobody announced it in any sort of official capacity? This seems very unofficial to me so far. I would expect if it was able to be out by the Summer, then there would be some sort of press release by now.

From what I understood, it's about "modded" version. The work gets done in Ukraine.

It looks like a Ukraine version but the specs are likely mutually exclusive. We could have high speed page turns today if the unit switched to pure black and white mode instead of gray scale. I suspect it won't do both high speed page switches and 16 gray scale at the same time.

I am a bit surprised that eBook hardware makers haven't designed a controller to be able to switch modes on the fly and thus permit high speed changes on text pages and then switch to gray scale on pages with images. Unless there is a great improvement using anti-aliasing this would seem like the best of both worlds to me.

lBook just asks Jinke to produce versions they need (lBook is doing all the design/marketing and some programming, and Jinke does rest of programming and all the production), and it is very likely that Jinke will sell those devices directly.
