epub and calibre
I am very new to epubs and trying to learn how it works. I was accessed to examine a clients epub that would not validate and it shows that it was created in calibre and with word. I was trying to learn the structure but I am getting an error and I dont know how to solve it. The message I am getting is as followed:
This resource is present in the OPF <Manifest>, but its not reachable (it's unused). What does this exactly mean and how do I fix it?? It lists this error message with each jpg. |

Hi and welcome to MobileRead.
If it says that you have a file that is present but not reachable, it means that the file is not being used in the book. If it's an image file, then all it's doing is taking up space in the book and you could probably delete it. I'd load the book into Sigil and then look in the Images folder and look at the image to see what it is and do a search for something like: Code:
src="../Images/xxxx.jpg If you can't find it, then that is why you got the message and it isn't in any of the pages so you wont see it on screen. It might be a nessessary file, in which case report back that they haven't included the image file in any pages (only stored it in the EPUB) and let them add it. and revalidate it. thanks for the post. I think I will just hard code it all. It appears most devices will not validate epubs and the best solution in the end is to hard code everything.

Some of your problem can occur because in Windows case generally doesn't matter, but in epubs it does. Your problem could be a simple as Style, versus style, or an extra space in a file name...good reason to make them one word.
Many readers will not validate the epub, but if it is submitted to a publisher it may well be validated causing headaches for your client. If it is an in-house publication it doesn't matter, but tracking down what it was could be useful for your education...if not for your sanity! (grin) |
