Forbidden Gospels and Epistles of the New Testament.

William Wake was Archbishop of Canterbury from 1716 to 1737.
He compiled and translated many of the non-canonical gospels and epistles then extant. These are early Christian texts that did not make the final shortlist for the New Testament. Some are almost certainly spurious.

The infancy narratives show the young Jesus making clay birds which turn into real ones, carrying water in a sieve, miraculously correcting Joseph’s carpentry mistakes and (less attractively) smiting dead other children who displease him. There are also accounts of the conception and infancy of the Virgin Mary.

This book contains:
The Gospel of the Infancy of Mary,
The Protevangelion [on the parentage of Mary]
Gospel of the Infancy of Christ,
St Thomas’s Gospel of the Infancy of Christ,
The Gospel of Nicodemus,
Correspondence between Christ and Abgarus.
Correspondence between St Paul and Seneca.
The Acts of Paul and Thecla
A large number of assorted epistles.
The Book of Hermas.
