Hello,

did anybody walk over to his local outdoor store to check what waterproof bag does fit his new bookeen best yet?

Would this one fit: Aquapac PDA Classic Plus+ (Code 360) (http://www.aquapac.co.uk/ukstore/erol.html#598x1141)
Any recommendations ?

Thank you

It fits Sony reader. Even with the original cover attached and folded back.
So check dimensions of the Sony Reader PRS500 and compare them to your device.

Hi,

Just bought the PDA Classic Plus+ (Code 360) for my CyBook today.
Perfectly fits!

Much-much better than the Small Whanganui (Code 650).

Cheers

That Aquapac looks like it fits the Cybook perfectly. Is it the Small Whanganui (Code 650)? http://www.aquapac.net/usstore/erol.html

Looks nice. Now is there some sort of case/cover for that since the protective cover is no longer in place?

No. I use it at home in the bath mostly and afterwards i take it out and put it back in its cover. (The CyBook though, which i like better than the sony)

There was an excellent tip from Roy White in another thread, http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14912:

"Put reader in bag not sealed, immerse bag in sink forcing air out making sure the opening was out of water, then sealing bag, WALLA! all the air out."

It 'shrink wraps' the bag to the reader and makes it easier to read through the plastic.

Cheers Roy :2thumbsup

Just to confirm... with one of these properly on my Cybook, if I read in the bath and I happen to drop it, then no harm will come to it? Or is it only for splash protection?

As long as the grey levers are in the sealed position, the Cybook is protected if dropped into water.

The Aquapacs are waterproof up to 5 meters depth. Although i would not want to read in that depth ;) And when you use it in the tub, you have to take into account, that hot water is not goot for the aquapacs. You should not leave it floating in the water for a longer period of time.

Yeah, it turns out they have a UK site (oh why didn't I just follow the link in the first post) where they go into detail about what the product does and doesn't do.

I won't be using it in a steaming hot bath, underwater!

I'll just be holding it in my hand, safe in the knowledge that if I drop it or it gets splashed then it's fine.

I ordered one last night - the size that Tribble's shop (if I've read correctly) sells.

The "small Whanganui" is the one that fits the CyBook.

Well, the cover arrived.

So I thought I'd spread a little bit of information about it.

It feels like it's made of well, for want of a better comparison, condoms. What I mean is that it feels a bit rubbery to the touch, and it would seem to be quite elastic.

It's a little big for the Cybook - a little wide, quite significantly too tall. But that's not a huge issue.

The seal on the device is in the catch, however the seal only prevents water getting into the sealed pouch, it does not prevent water getting into the catch.

This means that when you're finished surfing (I'd imagine many people will want this to read "Surfing for dummies") then you cannot immediately take the Cybook from the cover.

You can very quickly and easily dry the outside of it, and I believe you should do this. However there is water still held in the catch, and the only way to expose this so you can dry it is to open the catch, and by opening the catch you open the seal which allows the water in the catch to drop down and get to the Cybook.

The only way around this would be to hold the cover upside down and then undo the catch, and from there attempt to dry it out while making sure the Cybook doesn't slide out. Not something I'm going to do, or would recommend.

As for how long I expect it would take the catch to dry out? Certainly hours....

Which means that when I use it in the bath I'll then have to keep it in the cover until I'm sure the catch has dried before restoring it to the original leather case. Which exposes the Cybook to damage, I guess.

Here's a couple of piccies of it to show you how it looks in the cover and the catch itself.

Only below the red line is sealed (http://halk.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/seal.jpg)

As the cover is too long, you can just let the top flop over, and then open the catch, this way water can't run down into the bag and onto the CyBook.

That's right. But you still can't get the Cybook out because it's got to pass through the wet bit.

Once the seal is open, you could dry it with a paper towel. Personally, I don't bother, the worst that happens when I take the CyBook out is a drop or two of water on the case and I can't see how that can cause any damage. :)

I have used my ...aehm ... "waterproof" bag [see the second post] with great success.
This kind of bag is not meant to protect your ebook device in a shower or on a diving session.
It protects the reader from a dripping water and sand when you read on the beach and somebody walks by dripping water and scattering sand.
It protects the reader from certain destruction when you read in the bathtub and you touch the reader with a wet hand or splash a little bit of water on it.

It fits very nicely in a quart size ziploc freezer bag. I wouldn't take it underwater in one (why would you be reading underwater?) but it would certainly keep sand and dirt out, and it will work for bathtub reading, assuming you don't dunk it for fun. Maybe it will hold up to dunking, but I'm not going to test that. Hmmm, some toilet paper in a ziploc bag underwater might be a good test . . .

Well, I did use it the other night in the bath. Afterwards I dried the outside with my towel, and then I used a piece of kitchen roll to dry the inside of the catch, before sliding the Cybook out. Seemed to work fine. I'll just need to watch I don't get complacent.

Would it (or another size pac) fit the Cybook with the cover? I'm thinking of for when I have to commute on rainy days, I'd love some extra protection. I wouldn't want to risk travelling without the case.

I would use it solely for rainy days, not for baths or anything else like that. (Maybe if I owned a larger tub, but I can barely fit in the one I have. Not comfortable for long baths.) :headscratch:

The 9"x6" Aloksak is an almost perfect fit. They're rated down to 200'/60m

Well, in another thread (http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24782&page=3)I talked about getting a bath caddy (http://www.iwantoneofthose.com/bath-caddy/index.html?&gclid=CIqG_bjwzJQCFRKS1QodmjXUlA)for my birthday, which, in fact, I did thanks to OH.
First time I tried it out was a bit of a nightmare: there was nothing to keep the pages of the book open, the wine glass holder isn't suitable for a 'normal' wine glass and I didn't get the candle stuck in right so as soon as it got jiggled it fell in the bath!
Not to be daunted, today I went out for a waterproof cover for my Cybook (which I got last Saturday) and got one from Lakeland (http://www.lakeland.co.uk/waterproof-pouches/F/keyword/waterproof/product/50190) in town. 3 in a pack but was comparitively cheap and I can get my Cybook plus cover (flat folded back) in the largest one with decent access to all the buttons. Medium one is too small to get the device in, even without cover. It's secured with 3 ziplocks (? like you get on food bags?) which you then roll over with a velcro and stud flap to protect it (similar to others that have been described here).
Remembering to secure the candle by melting some wax at the bottom, I ventured forth, and it was an overwhelming success! Now all I need is to source a suitable wine glass!

That is definitely something a guy would not do. We just prefer to get in the shower, do what we need to do and get out so we can go back to reading.

Phone off the hook, boiler going full pelt for regular top-ups - bliss :D.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. I know a lady whose husband sets up his laptop on a stool next to the bathtub so he can surf while soaking. She's worried about him accidentally getting the computer wet or electrocuting himself. Maybe I should send her the pictures of Mindy's setup.

Just got back from a week down the shore. I brought the Aquapac large PDA case and it worked beautifully. After hours on the beach it was covered in sunscreen and sand. I had to take the Gen3 out and scrub the case clean quite a few times during my stay. If I just had my Cybook in its case it would have been ruined.

Nice thread, thank you! Since I'm someone who reads everywhere, I really should get one of the aquapack-things. probably the large PDA case (too bat the cover won't fit :( And the next up that I found on the site seems to be awfully large - not fun to lug around.

I was wondering, does anybody know how the PRS-505 reacts to very warm conditions? I'd love to be able to read in the sauna... the aquapac takes care of the dampness, but will the bag & reader stand up to humid heat at +60-100 C (140-210 F) so I can still read a book on it, or will it be slow/unresponsive and the bag melt...
