It occurred to me that we didn't have many (any?) collections of letters. I've got the text from PG, done a little formatting, and added a TOC. I kept the PG picture.

Elinore Pruitt Stewart's book was first published in 1914. These letters span the period 1909-1913. She found herself widowed, with a young daughter and became a laundress in Denver. After her health began to suffer, she moved to Wyoming to homestead; later marrying the man next door.
The letters were written to a former employer in Denver. Mrs Stewart is too shy to admit that she has married again until about halfway through the collection.

As a British person, I sometimes find myself fascinated by American society. For me, this modest collection exemplifies the traditional American virtues of self-reliance, an adventurous spirit, thrift, and compassion for others.
